@@mjtsirhc and you still use the account wow haha. btw maybe he's a little unknown because he's working at Berklee therefore he can't be a travelling musician? but among bass players i refuse to believe he's underrated.
I can proudly say I own this dandy on VHS with the accompanying tab book and I have never recovered from attempting to learn it. The banter between the two in between performances is just as good as the playing, I love these two beauties.
I keep coming back to this every now and then. Every time i learne something new, or when I'm in a different musical mood, i appreciate this stuff even more. It's timelessness.
Bailey's right hand technique shows very well how right hand technique on electric bass is something very personal that any player should dig deeply before understanding what's the best that fits better his own anatomy and musical taste...
Rick K Actually, on closer inspection, maybe he does pluck kinda funnily... extremely flat angle on the right fingers due to the 6 strings and always anchoring the thumb at the top.
This is really impressive on its own, but when you consider the fact that they do this over and over again on tour, it amazes me how these people keep such a tight groove through every session. I saw these three guys live.
I remember well when I heard this for the first time. My eyeballs popped out and my jaw stayed on the floor for at least 3 weeks. A friend gave me the CD back then -- and until then I only knew bassists accompanying music groups. What the *#*@* did I know?
Meyepadwe while I understand the irony behind your comment. I agree with you : levels of musicianship that can not compare. The thing is even if Flea is what we call a pop bassist, he contributed to put the bass under the spotlight in the music today. That’s something Baileys didn’t do because he is not a pop bassist. Essentially both of them can coexist in the bass universe.
The University of North Texas connection. Superb music program (most of Snarky Puppy was there). Also: David Hungate (Toto), Keith Carlock (Steely Dan), Dean Parks, Lyle Mays (Pat Metheny Group), Bruce Fowler (Zappa), . . . Many more that I'm forgetting just now.
yea his three finger technique is amazing..... i learned how to double pluck pretty quickly but that alternating fingers the way he does is absolutely incredivle
I saw them a couple of weeks ago, a new album is coming out soon. Here I am looking at 5 and 6 stringed guitars and he shows me that I haven't even touched the potential of a four string. He played that Jazz bass and adjusted the tuner during the sustained note, and then played it like a conga drum when all of the strings were out of tune. Steve Bailey got everything out of his six string.
Extra strings really don't give you THAT many extra possibilities (perhaps outside of the High C for chords). They just make positioning a little easier because you don't have to jump around the fingerboard as much. It's only an extra 5 notes per string, many on which you won't want to use in most contexts. The low D and E Flat are handy but not required if you're playing Jazz. Below that, you won't get much use of the low B etc outside of Metal or Soul / R&B generally speaking. Likewise with the highest notes of a High C assuming you have 22 to 24 frets. Victor does have 24 frets though, which does make a difference (remember that's one note short of slapping on a High C to a 20 fret Fender).
Cómo toca el wotten. Ese si que es y sigue siendo crack. A ver si la gente deja de escuchar esa música "Anti-músicos" como el trap y empiezan a escuchar a tantos músicos cracks que hay.
I like their outfits, they look like player A and player B in a video game :D
Jajajajajajajaja.yess
Point and click
Cuphead and mugman
I can't with this comment 😂
😂😂😂😂😂 Oh my
Man, Steve Bailey is way underrated. Easily one of the most skilled fretless players in the world.
Underrated by who? anyone who plays fretless rates him highly. did you mean unknown?
Underrated is an understatement. The guy's literally a master of his craft, a once in a lifetime virtuoso.
@@6stringedpsycho718 whoa this was from 10 years ago lol.
@@mjtsirhc i know... 😅 But i just felt like replying. Nothing fancy.
@@mjtsirhc and you still use the account wow haha. btw maybe he's a little unknown because he's working at Berklee therefore he can't be a travelling musician? but among bass players i refuse to believe he's underrated.
Bailey is so good he simultaneously raises and lowers everyone's bassplaying skills.
Unreal. They're both killing it, but some of the stuff Steve Bailey is doing here is otherworldly. (Props to the drummer, too.)
Anyone else grow up watching this VHS series? My God it was formative I love them both
I was privileged to see these guys play this, and a slew of other tunes, live in 1995, at Alpha Music in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
I can proudly say I own this dandy on VHS with the accompanying tab book and I have never recovered from attempting to learn it. The banter between the two in between performances is just as good as the playing, I love these two beauties.
bailey: ahh chick.....n picking.
wooten: this song was meant to be.
bailey: be what?
i still laugh thinkin of that shit
I love how you can see the “fret” areas worn in on Steve’s fretboard. You can see the hours he puts into playing.
i Love how wooten do all the melody with only 4 strings.
Yeah, But he has Frets, haha
Steve!!!! My teacher from berklee!!!:)
If you learned half of what he taught you, you’re probably better than most listening to this. Myself included.
I can’t believe Chick Corea’s parents named him after this song
lol
RIP Chick Corea
Lol
That would definitely be embarrassing if it was true :^D
@@iceberg220 nah I'm thinking of naming my kids after their song Dump Cake, still not embarrassing

A great song for driving from Mojave to 395 and down to San Bernardino, at night, with a 5 year old....
Dam, Steve Bailey and Victor Wooten are amazing together their styles fit perfect with each other.
I feel like crying, really amazing performance!

Cesare Polonara his technique comes from playing the double bass, I think.
Rick K Actually, on closer inspection, maybe he does pluck kinda funnily... extremely flat angle on the right fingers due to the 6 strings and always anchoring the thumb at the top.
The way these two weave back and forth is so cool.
As a wise man once said: "Bassporn."
I hate that wise man , he got it right again!😂
Whether or not it is, I've already finished twice and I'm ready for round three
I just cant stop rewinding the track over & over !
very groovy
1:20 the lick
lmao I can now hear it
Love that legendary recording!

Two musicians talking about life😊
R.I.P. Chick Corea
I'm just thinking to quit playing bass. Fishing maybe will fit me.
Maybe not. You'd get emotional if you came across a bass
What a silly comment

According to Rolling Stones, Flea is insaner!1!!

If Steve Bailey was blind he'd be Steve Brailley.
Shoot, I'm already convinced the man can read sheet music with his toes while playing
And if Victor Wootten was a sheep he would be Victor Woollen
7 years later, joke still holds up.
Whos Steve Bailey?
Absolutely Spectacular!
That was great musical entertainment.....wow

Michael Manring does things on 4 strings with tunings that I can't even comprehend. Check out the Enormous Room or Selena if you haven't yet.
