Rock Island Armoury builds parts for a lot of high end pistols. They might have even built yours. Nothing wrong with it, they make great products.

ria is part of armscor. metro arms is not. it is associated with tristar arms.

RIA and MAC are two different 1911 producers. RIA is more on volume production and MAC is more on custom production hence you will notice that their 1911's are more refine when it comes to looks.

    • @BangsAndRecoilPh
      @BangsAndRecoilPh 2 місяці тому

Ey! MetroArms is not Armscor or RIA. They are a totally different company and not connected to Armscor. They have their own manufacturing facility.
I believe they are the best 1911 makers from the Philippines because for
1.) they employed the best gunsmiths of Danao (the notoriously known masters in 1911 craftsmanship. You can research on that).
2.) they’ve been manufacturing partners with STI (aka STACCATO) for years if not decades and with SPS and other 1911 custom shops in the world. Which means they got knowledge boosts from these endeavors.
The only problem with them is that they operate on such a low key that they didn’t bother putting up internet presence hence a lot of people abroad don’t know them. But the people in the shooting business here in the Philippines definitely know them and what their capabilities.
In my opinion they are definitely the best 1911 makers in the Philippines and probably at par with the best in the world.

@@BangsAndRecoilPh I don't mean to cut down the quality of RIA. Quite the contrary. What I'm saying is that their parts are used in some VERY high end guns but due to NDA you'll never know who those companies are.

Tisas makes another good budget 1911. I don't own one, but shot a buddy's, don't know the model but it was mid-range, better than my glock 19.

Great to have you back doing fire arm reviews and commentary. I go way back with you to your squirrel hunting and kayak days. Learned a lot from you on the Remington 870s and upgrades especially for squirrel hunting/varmint control. Long before the real estate business and other content. Fully agree on your Glock choices/preference for reality use. You were gifted a nice 1911 and did a really good practical review, but I will stick with a known manufacturer like Colt. There is nothing like shooting a Colt 1911 Series 70. History is the best part of the 1911 experience.

I’ve carried a 1911 for the past 32 years, and I’ve never had a problem. I used to carry a full sized Colt. I now carry a Commander sized 1911. I have 23 handguns, of those 7 are 1911’s. My least expensive is a Rock Island Armory 1911 and it runs flawlessly. I just ran across your channel and just subscribed.

I just got a BBR Compact .45 Auto from RIA. Even with the 3" barrel I was surprised at the accuracy the first time shooting it. I was just a little concerned about the case containing a mainspring that said 'Replace after 500 rounds'. So far, no jam ups or problems.

Really like those fish scale grips. Not coarse like some of the G-10 grips are.
I picked up 45acp Metal Form mags, because they’re cheap priced the way I like it.( I’m tighter than the skin on a grape.) They have the same type round top followers like my 10mm wilson combat mags have.

I have a Citadel Centennial model in 1911 Government (also a Rock Island manufactured weapon). I have run ball ammo for about 6500 rounds through mine with predictable results. I have also put about 200 rounds of Speer Gold Dot hollow point ammo through my 1911. I have had zero problems with that ammo. I can tell no difference in trajectory, and have seen virtually the same impact points on my paper targets as the hardball ammo. Give a try, I think you'll also be impressed.

Welcome to the 1911 world. Tisas also makes fantastic 1911s for under $500. As for an American made 1911, you can get a base model Ruger for around $600. I believe they’re made in Arizona. Also great guns.

I spent 3 days fishing CSP / St George area. I carried an alloy frame revolver, i week later, i noticed corrosion on the cartridges. I was rained on but never enter saltwater. Just wondering , corroding brass cartridges in high salt enviroments, what do locals do? maybe its a non issue. next time ill try nickel plated brass. just asking.

I have a couple of Rock Islands, a couple of Tisas models and a Girsan. The Girsan is a bummer, the Match Tisas was not accurate, the other Tisas was pretty good but the Rock Islands are the most accurate. I also have a Fusion (made in Florida!) that is great like the Rock Island's. I just picked up a new barrel bushing for the Tisas Match and now it is nice and snug on the front. Have to try it out this weekend still. Hope it fixes things. 3 of mine are in "The Lord's Caliber" (.45acp) and 2 are 9mm. I love the 1911 platform. Have a CZ 75 that bites into my hand with the beavertail so don't shoot it much. Those 1911s though...mmmm...mmmm...

I am supposed to be bias with RIA's and MAC's since I was born and raised in Manila and have loved my RIA's 1911 single and double stack. However, the upcoming Turkey manufacturer "Tisas" have outdone RIA in the last 3-5 years when it comes to 1911's and 2011's. Tisas have cold hammer forged frame and slide with no MIM parts ranging from $400-$600 1911's and $700 to $1000 2011. I currently have 1 single stack and 2 double stack 1911 from RIA. With Tisas, I currently have 2 single stack and 1 double stack 2011's plus I have two PX9 Gen3 since it uses the same mags as my Sig P226 and love them.

I have one and no, Rock Island and Metro Arms are not made in the same factory. Mine is all blued steel and very nicely done. Plus, it cost less than any of my Glocks. I replaced the grips with some nice Altamont wood grips. Out of the box it was a solid performer and very well fitted. I decided to tweak a little, since I didn't care for the style of the hammer and trigger. I replaced both with parts from Nighthawk.

it's cocked and locked, not locked and cocked as you can't lock it unless it's cocked. also it's ambidextrous, not ambidextrious, a lot of people say this wrong, and i don't see why. does one say dangerious? can one lock and then cock it? there is nothing wrong with investment casting if done correctly. not many trash talk the ruger six series revolvers which were cast. i have an older rock island with the billboard, and it is good. rock island is part of armscor, metro arms is not a part of armscor, but is probably a good one. if i were to buy one today, i would be tempted by the turkish ones, but some have had problems, i would go with a ria. i like the bbr 3.10, which is double stacked and short. i believe it to be a revived llama minimax 2, as their .380 is a copy of the llama micromax.

No, it is not anywhere near the cheapest 1911. Much less the worlds cheapest. Nor is it associated with Armscore or Rock Island which ever you prefer to call the company. It is only guilty of being located in the same Country. That's it.
Using ball ammo on the Street is a recipe for disaster. A ball round will go thru the bad guy and continue along its merry way. You are responsible to any damage it may cause and forbid it hit an nocent bystander. It is a very foolish thing to even consider!
Interesting note, Several of the STI Team, (Now Staccato) went over there and showed the m the ropes of how to build a fine 1911. they also make nice double stack Competition 2011 type guns.
They are far from the bottom of the barrel.
Lower cost 1911's, Girsan (EAA). Tisas, Rock Island and a few others. Metro is higher quality than any of these.
