Great video as always. I really wish the Mark IV uppers weren’t the serialized part of the gun. It would be so cool to have a few different uppers for my grip frame. Target upper, SSH, etc. Also, checkout the Lobos mounts, they’re really slick.
Thanks! Serializing the lower would be a good idea to use multiple barrels. I tend to keep my firearms complete though. (My gunsmith made an integrally suppressed barrel with a locking mechanism to keep the bolt from cycling when you twist it one direction. Super quiet!) Those Lobos low profile mounts look awesome especially for the price! No need on my gun for all that extra rail area.
@@The-BCC this Ruger SSH has the same take down method as their Mark IV pistols. It’s way simpler and easier for the user to disassemble and reassemble compared to the older Mark I, II and III’s.
Great video man, I like all the different angles you used and I think you had a good flow between showing the firing and quickly showing the ammo. I would just recommend using a Rode, DJI, or some other type of mic on your body and maybe a stablizer or tripod when showing that ammo. Keep it up man!
I took your advice and knew I needed to improve my microphone, so I ordered a DJI Mic 2 transmitter and receiver. Should I get a DJI Lavalier mic, Rode Lavalier II Premium, or PowerDeWise Professional Grade 2 mic for best subsonic and supersonic gunshot sounds and mic quality? Any others around 100 bucks you might suggest as well. Thanks!
I'm partial to the VolquartsenLLV (the 3"receiver on the MiniMomba). It has a built in rail and iron sights. I just swap out the frame and bolt from my Tactical and I got what you got, plus.
That’s a cool setup! Great fiber optics with the iron sights and a good looking built in low pro pic rail. I upgraded my factory pic rail to a Rucker Machine mount that directly goes to my Holosun Vulcan and skips the pic rail to keep the sight lower. I wonder how it compares to yours…

@@bradhoffner8565 the gun is dirty and I just tried the Federal American Eagle Suppressor 45 grain (advertised 970 fps), Federal Auto Match 40 grain (advertised 1200 fps), and Winchester M22 40 grain (advertised 1255 fps) and they all didn’t cycle without a suppressor, but the Remington Viper 36 grain (advertised 1410 fps) did cycle. The exact fps and grain weights for cycling unsuppressed are in between high velocity 1255 and hyper velocity 1410 fps. I suspect you would have to run hyper velocity ammo like Viper with an ultra low back pressure suppressor like HUXWRX makes.
Yes, the CCI Quiet Semi Auto 45 grain 835 fps would sound good, probably a bit better than the Federal American Eagle Suppressor 45 grain 970 fps. I have some CCI Quiet 40 grain 710 fps that don’t cycle in semi autos, but sound amazing in my suppressed Bergara B14R bolt action rifle.
A longer barrel is like adding more volume to your suppressor making it quieter. The 4.4” barrel with subsonic ammo will be a little bit quieter. This SSH is cool because it makes everything subsonic. Some supersonic and all hypersonic ammo out of the standard 4.4” barrel will have a sonic crack because it is breaking the speed of sound, but will stay subsonic out of the short SSH barrel and actually be quieter out of it. It really depends on your ammo choices with the 4.4”
@@RangeToyzthanks for the response. Do you have an example of a specific ammo would be supersonic out of a 4.4” but not a 3”? In my research it seems like most all 22 ammo stays subsonic until you pass 4.5”. Also, follow up question, what would you compare the sound to?
@@graham765 I’ll try to test some out between the SSH and my GSG 1911 with it’s 5” barrel, hopefully soon. It’ll make a good video too, so it might take some time. @@markjohnson3485 try CCI Quiets, the 710 ft./s version. They’re slow enough not to cycle in any semi automatic. They’re nice and quiet out of this gun, but amazingly quiet out of my Bergara B14R with a 16” barrel and the same suppressor. Other subsonic ammo can be quieter as well because of the extra volume in the longer barrel where gases can expand, but you’re right, when some subsonics are loaded closer to the speed of sound, then they will go supersonic out of longer barrels. The cut off for subsonic ammo going. supersonic out of a 16 inch barrel is probably somewhere around 925 feet per second depending on bullet weight, elevation, temperature and humidity. I think @JXLegends is thinking between this model or the regular Ruger MKIV where the two barrels only have a 2” difference.
No, the longer the barrel, the more acceleration until the propellant is complete (full burn and gas expansion) after that, the drag of the barrel will start to slow that projecile.
