GWM recently added the LTD edition at the top of the P-Series double cab range as an off-road oriented leisure bakkie.
Taking the already formidable P-Series as the base which provides a 2l 4 cylinder turbodiesel providing 120kW and 400Nm through an 8 speed automatic transmission. Although this is the first P-series that I have had on test, a previous short experience showed this to be a smooth and comfortable vehicle with all the luxuries that you expect from a modern double cab aimed at the leisure end of the market.
The LTD adds mainly off-road items to the recipe. Starting with very chunky off-road 18" wheels and tyres. The front is blacked out and more aggressive with the bumpers cut-away at the corners for better off-road ability. The suspension is "toughened" with off-road settings and metal side-steps and a sports bar complete the exterior changes.
Although the interior is unchanged from a luxury perspective, this is where you find significant specification upgrades. Where the other versions have full-time 4 wheel drive, the LTD features a rotary switch for 2H/4H and 4L as well as terrain settings. Front and rear diff-locks and a little magic button that reduces the turning circle in 4L and 4x4 situations. Special off-road cruise control is also there, although I did not try it.
On road, the power delivery is smooth but you have to accept that the changes from the standard models do compromise comfort and ride quality. The gearbox is superb and you never feel shifts in normal driving.
Overall, the P-series fills it's role as a luxury/ leisure double cab. If you NEVER intend using the vehicle in off-road or 4x4 situations, I would choose the standard double cab 4x4 and save R50 000 on the initial purchase price.
Overall, the P-series must be seen as a bargain in the luxury/ leisure double cab segment with this model currently priced at R694 900.
We took the LTD to the 4x4 trail at Lerebisi Lodge (a separate video will follow) to prove it's 4x4 prowess.

First of all the LT version has serious omissions like rear dome light, driver's grab handle, no rear step in the bumper and the metal finishings. If they could make a version that has all the bits of the Limited with the ride quality of a Ford Ranger and no snorkel, more like an upgraded LT, I'd get that one. Thanks for the review.

You mentioned that some of the buttons on the steering wheel do not work. A frustrating feature is you need to hold the "OK" button on the steering wheel before you are allowed to change settings on the screen by the steering wheel.
