  • On Sunday 22rd May 202 after nearly two weeks of rain, a group of GWM Cannon Utes ( P-series / Pao ) set out to conquer Whangmōmona road.
What started as a 4 hours "bring your lunch" drive, turned into an 18 hour rescue mission.
It was a bit stressful on the night, but the day after everyone was fizzing with excitement, having achieved something they never expected.
Thanks to the crew at Keppler ( keppler.co.nz ) for oganising this, and for the laughs that I'll remember for ages !

10 points for effort dude! That place is my local playground and is not to be taken lightly this time of year. You will want as much lift as you can safely get and some real good aggressive mt tyres that are as large as you can fit as well as a winch minimum to hit that track this time if year. Its even a bit of a mission on a dirt bike in winter. Its a cool part of the world.

Cheers for the shout out on the terrible pronunciation I had 😅 Definitely changed since the years ago I was kicking through there. Looks to be a wicked trail in there now. Rough spending such a long time on track though! We were lucky to have ours kitted out to camp anywhere and just stay on track. Wicked time though, glad ya picking up some mods!

What an awesome video. I'm fresh on the scene when it comes to gwm cannon. Recently went through a lot of dramas trying to purchase a mahindra pik up. I pulled the pin on that purchase got a full refund. And hopefully next week putting a deposit on a red cannon L. Took one for a test drive today.
I'm across the Ditch from you in Aussie land. Enjoy every aspect of your vids. Top job.

You obviously didn't read what I wrote, or probably even watch the vid to the end (where I discuss mods i have bought THIS week)
Like I said l, we were invited out on a "bring your lunch for a 4 hour drive through the bush"
Obviously, things changed when we arrived the night before and talked to the locals.
But thanks for your comments 👍

@@loudas Hi Paul, im not sure who advised you. our group of 5 trucks were advised we would not make it through in december because of the slip at tunnel. we spent a few hours digging to get over it. looks like more work has been done since then. our vechiles were set up with M?Ts 2 inch lifts and winches. we are a similar age to your group 55 through to 65. we had to drag a young guy through in vechile similar to yours in setup (blown cv ). he too was off to get a lift kit and better tyres. trips are way more fun if you are confident in your truck staying on the road. look forward to seeing future vids. regards Rob

@@robcalis6014 I don't really want to throw the advisor under the bus 🤣
But let's say this trip was organised for a TV spot .. so y'know, work it out yourself.
Those who sponsored the trip were disappointed in the complete lack of preparedness.
Some guys turned up wearing street shoes (vans), because they weren't advised. There was a complete lack of care and duty before setting out.
      As you say ... LUCKY
And yeah .. booked in for a lift next, and shopping for treps right now 🤣

Yes well lucky indeed, was going to comment lasy night that at least being there in the pitch dark you wouldn't of seen just how high above the river the track gets in places.... I've just driven through the track again today an chuckled at the street tyre tread patterns still visible... 🙂

Great vid Paul , lots of “fun” on that track.
Would have loved to see a different car brand , Toyota or Isuzu or whatever , joining in so could make a good comparison in performance !
Cannon seemed to be doing great job though!
Yeah , first thing that jumped to mind watching this vid , your cars need a lift kit.
    Thanks man. ;-))

To tackle what you did in this video you definetly need a 2" lift. Good effort. But I would not attempt any of that with stock tyres, as some of the people in the group did. No wonder you guys ended up with some damage. So, did you select 4L , Cross Country Expert mode or just left it in Standard as is?
