EL sounds way better for these cars. I feel like the rumble is something that's characteristic to the WRX and only really fits that car. Not to mention that the power increases matter more up top rather than in the middle of the rev range.
Thank you lots! Glad you enjoyed our video and were able to learn something from it! Personally I think you should go with the UEL just for that amazing classic subie rumble but that’s just my (totally Derek) opinion.
Of course! Glad we could help you decide. Great choice either way going with EL headers, they’re definitely the better option (yes yes this is Andrew saying this)
Good video! really great comparison. Really appreciate the clip for the race between the first Gen. I personally like the sound from both manifolds but I do prefer the top end sound of the EL headers. I used to own a Civic SI and it reminded me of that lol.
Thank you bro, we really appreciate the love and are glad you enjoyed the video! The EL header really is a unique taste for these cars and we’re glad you love it too🖤🖤
Awesome comparison, boys. I'm digging the whole channel hope you upload more vids. I think the next mod on my BRZ will be UEL headers. I heard the first gen Tomei UEL headers will fit on the second gen so I am planning on that. Hopefully it will sound good with my HKS exhaust!
We’re glad you liked the video, it really means a lot to us! We’ve heard that Tomei Uel plus Hks exhaust sounds really good so we hope to hear your car when you get it installed!

I can't choose! I want the sound and the power! But to be fair they both sound cool in their own right. So do the EL headers do make more high end power?
Yeah, we were stuck as well when deciding between the two! The EL headers do make more high end power depending on which brand of headers you buy which does in the end help beat out UEL versions of the same BRZ, FRS, and 86’s :)
Amazing video! Now I know the difference between UEL and EL headers! I think that I am leaning more towards the UEL headers for my GR86! Keep up the great work💯🔥🔥🔥
Glad you enjoyed the video! I 100% agree with your choice on the UEL headers, they're definitely better than the EL ones. (this is totally derek saying this)
@@NinoInTheComments We're glad you enjoyed the video as well! The UEL does give more torque in the lower rpm range however, the EL header gives more power to the higher rpm range which is most important for track/canyon runs. In the end UEL is better for daily driving whereas EL is better for pushing your car to its limits :)
couple questions on the gr86. are the uel headers catted or catless? did you get a tune right away after installing the uel headers? also if you didn't tune the car right away did you have any issues with check engine lights or anything? i have a 2023 brz and id like to get the jdl uel catted headers but I haven't been able to find a ton of information on tuning vs not tuning so I'm a little hesitant
The headers are catted and there were no issues running it without a tune. Zero check engine lights so you should be good as long as they’re catted. Catless you would most likely need a defouler for the O2 sensor. The tune mostly just helps utilize the power you can gain from the headers but if you’re going for mostly sound the uels by themselves are worth it!
Of course! Totally agree with your preference on the UEL headers, I think they sound so much nicer than EL, but that’s just me (Derek, totally not Andrew) :)
In this video it’s the remark elite spec catback. We personally like the new awe track edition exhaust that’s on Andrew’s car currently though! It’s way deeper and a bit louder…👀👀
I got el headers installed about a week ago, garage told me that the el headers just make more power end of. Uel is just for sound and less power overall

I have EJ204 NA engine on SG Facelift Forester streetcar . For NA engine which header is better for performance / fuel efficiency ? EL stock header or UEL header ?
That's a really sick car bro! For headers, we'd recommend getting a UEL header as any aftermarket header would be better than stock power wise, plus at least for our cars, we experienced very minimal drops in mpg when we put our headers on. Whichever is more important to you to be honest. Also, we would definitely recommend hitting the forums for better information though because in the end this is just our opinions.
This NA 2 liter doesnt move enough air to really feel any difference between the two headers. Its why you really only see minimal gains its mostly in the torque dip. When you boost the car then you will see a much more dramatic difference between the two header styles. UEL for the low end rumble during everyday driving. If your someone chasing peek power from your boosted set up then EL all the way
This is very true, you’ll see majority of the gains when turbod but the brz with El headers did outperform a frs with Uel headers while NA. So it’s still worth it for some people chasing NA power over sound
Despite being a Subaru fan, I find the boxer rumble obnoxious AF. Doesn't suit this car at all. On a WRX sure, but not this small lightweight sports car.
@@carantixno can do. While the data that Ace has far more area under the curve and volumetric efficient than any header on the market, you can’t get your hands on the original A350’s anymore. The newly revised units aren’t the same as the original, and perform to a lesser degree. Still excellent however (and probably still superior). I’m unsure if FA24 applications for it as well. I happen to have the very last production unit (sealed new) of the A350 in a dual ceramic ‘CSG Spec’ coating on it, with the Ace front pipe (also dual coated). I will let it go to only the right buyer if anyone feels the desire to reach out.
Unfortunately with Cali laws, any aftermarket headers wont pass a smog test, so over here most likely it wont pass. In regards to the tune, you don't necessarily need a tune for the uel headers; however, we would definitely recommend it for the performance gains that you can get. Also, the only mod you will likely need for a gr86 if you upgrade the headers to uel catless is a defouler which helps to keep check engine lights from popping up.
