High Performance Academy He always ask the questions i would have asked myself, its magic :) (im an oem engine developer and hobby racer ). Im new to this channel, surprised it hasn't more subs, top quality content!
Wow, what a great interview, this guy really is engineering the shit out of this car. Very cool to see, much better than most of the other stupid interviews I see around.
By far the most refreshingly creative example of a tuner car built for WTAC competition! Reading through various articles written on the build of this car don’t quite do it justice at all, in contrast listening to Andy himself reflect on a brief technical appraisal during this interview has been so much more rewarding from an enthusiast’s perspective. A truly clever approach which tethers on the edge of what’s practically possible when bending what’s theoretically known the only gives a glimmer to the shadow of the treasures this car holds as a complete project! Many thanks as always for this interview!
We do our best! Even at a year old or older so many of these videos still hold 100% relevant, useful and interesting (if you love learning about anything automotive) knowledge 😎 - Taz.
brilliant vid, amazing discussion of the new car... some incredible changes from the old car... chain driven offset front drive shafts, r35 transaxle, turbo eating into the passenger footwell. amazing build and total defiance of limitations with such innovation - Andy is just inspiring - oh and his aero guy is something else too! Andre gives yet another great interview with Andy. Thank you Andre, I just love these interviews. (y)
Who gave this a dislike??? The interviews with Andy are always very detailed and are very well presented! Some great mechanical knowledge to be gained here. Keep up the good work guys!
This is probably the first time I've ever watched an interview this long, and I'm really glad I did. This guy/car is freaking amazing!! Well done with that chain drive system!! That's insaine!! And I bet that listening to the passenger never gets old 😉😉🤘
I love that after u guys chat about the Tec of the car and we as viewers build a picture up of spec and the passion that go into them it's then for me brought together in the car doing a lap, genuinely the best motor car/Tec video's FULL STOP. 4 years late to this vid but loved it fellas. ✌🖒👊
Listening to Andy answering on Andres questions is one of the most relaxing things about cars on youtube apart from documentaries. So much knowledge, beautiful attitude, mindblowing details, calm and respectful pesonalities with no drama, only facts. Thank you HPE! :)
6;05 Andre got a little thrill there knowing that this guy not only "identified it" but "said it" for us all to hear Dre knows hes interviewing a genuine guru (That's Gold) Top job TOP CHANNEL
This is a perfect balance, insight on the mechanics (main focus) and then those mechanics in action. Not sure If you guys recall my comment in a past video, I know you get quite a few. Not wanting a “Full race” channel, just a little more action showing how all those items work in motion. GREAT AS ALWAYS GUYS!!
What a great interview! The interviewer is very articulate and knows his stuff and knows great questions to ask! And the Scottish Lad is an engineering wizard and did amazing in the interview and didn't blapper on. 10/10
7.7s car that can turn?? that's very un-American! What an awesome machine. This is real engineering, not just slap a bigger engine and turbo on a car to go fast in a straightline. And goddamn the interview, I love how the host gives background to each question before actually asking the question to help viewers understand and appreciate why he's asking the question! That's university stuff.
Really enjoyed the questions and format! I love the engineering on this car, it's my favorite of 2019 thus far. Will be keeping an eye on this especially for the 3rd spring tech, incredible. Edit: Boy am i late to the party! Lmao
This was a Fantastic video with great questions that really get at the interesting points of this build. 👌 Amazing work on both sides of the interview.
I’d love to see the mechanics of how the 3rd spring is able to control ride height. Is it somehow pivoting between the chassis and strut tops? It’s a work of art and Andy is a mad scientist!
The worlds first awd subaru 7.7sec in the quater mile. Fastest euro car at wtac also fastest subaru at wtac. I have watched the progression of andys car from drag car to superlap scotland to doing both all the time and now in wtac he is one of a kind scotlands proud of ya big man🏴
I'm back for the third time taking this car in due to what I thought was an unrelated search lol. What an incredible piece of engineering using relatively novel solutions. Thanks for all you do Andre
@@hpa101 the German chap who bought it is not on social media but I believe he will be competing in European time attack masters and German time attack, I can't find the guy's name though.
Cheers for that info anyway, I'll try keep an eye out for it. Shame we won't see Andy's new built at WTAC but I try and catch what I can about that too in passing =D - Taz.
Wow André! Wat a fascinating and excellent interview! Since 2015 always keen to check the evolution of Andy's 'Rex'. Fantastic ideas and solutions. I hope Racecar Engineering ( or similar )do an I depth article on the car ( with drawings 🤓 ) Cheers David
It's not an EZ series engine, it's actually an EG33. It's from a Subaru SVX. Twin-cam (with single cam sprocket, they're linked internally with gears), 24v, 3.3L (though this one is stroked I believe). Basically an EJ22 with two more cylinders. Shares literally nothing with the EZ engines. Check out SubiPerformance, they have a video comparing the two engines internally. The EG has much thicker cylinder walls making it a better candidate for very high boost builds like this. Also, runs a timing belt instead of a chain like the EZ series, which although requires more maintenance, is much more efficient.
I notice a lot of DTM and Formula 2 influences with this build! This is truly a custom racecar with a Subaru body shell. Im sure he would have built a scratch made racecar if rules permitted!
Id love to take a look at this beast while its up on a lift. A gtr rear transaxle with the front diff behind the engine that chain drives the front tires in front of the engine. What an amazing engineering feat. I love the unconventional setup & thinking outside the box. Like the guy says, it justs has to last 1-2 laps at WOT, but I think he's on to something. Edit: Damn, third spring suspension setups and a in the works pneumatic ride hight system to keep the ride hight constant, regardless of downforce loads (low/high speed). These little niches is what makes racing so interesting to me. Thinking outside the box. Id love to have a beer with this dude and pick his brain
Dude....I know I'm late on the uptake on this one (popped into suggested), but I just wanted to congratulate you for a superbly put together video (if you see this) and also express my adoration to the engineering genius of the owner. Does anybody know how the car did? What circuit and comparable times for an F1 or anything?
Yes Andy is one clever man, and also a nice guy to boot as a bonus :D Will be a bit off an open seater, I think he came 4th in his class at WTAC, could be wrong there, but the car has had a lot of Time Attack success back home in Scotland - Taz.
