- A WRX that runs 7.7-second quarter miles and competes competitively in time attack racing with a simple change of the tyres and sway bars? It doesn't really seem realistic, does it? But that's exactly what Andy Forrest's savage WRX is capable of. Andy, who hails from Scotland, shipped his Subaru down to Sydney for the 2015 World Time Attack Challenge, and was good enough to spend a little time showing us around his 1200hp genre-bending monster.

The most informative interview I've ever seen! Insane car
Andy is a total Subaru guru. He mapped my wrx, on the road, turned it into the best car I have ever owned. He is also a really nice guy.
It's so refreshing to hear somebody talk that knows what the hell they are talking about.

Andy is a bit of a legend here in Scotland. I've seen him out on the public roads where I live mapping it. The 7.7 quarter is quick. Most Americans struggle to get near that with 2 more cylinders and a another 1000bhp on top. Serious respect to Andy. Hi from Scotland

This is the template engine setup for my futture Legacy. Andre is that good an interviewer in terms of his thoughtful and appropriate questions and how he listens and considers the responses he gets that I'll probably have to abandon any qualms about his rate of speech. Brilliant watch, much of what was discussed has peaked my enthusiasm and that's a great thing as a professional. After following Andy's handy work at Ten of the Best back when he was using a MicroTech ECU, it's thoroughly impressive to hear him describe is present race car. The elder Gentleman, sounds like He has tons of knowledge with regard to dynamics of these motors ie;.Engine, suspension (traction control), (ECU)-shift match timing...all Balanced for true performance on an all wheel drive 1200hp car...very interesting. Super cool, thanks for this video...good job HPA!

Andy is a legend and I remember when he first ran his scooby at TOTB. RC Evos were also pretty good and of course the RK Tuning and Abbey Motorsport Skylines
There were some great tuners around in the UK back then but now most of those shops have closed or don't compete so the scene is dead bar a few names
Did he say it revs out to 9K?
Not that crazy for Subarus. The us spec sti only rev to 6.7k but the global market sti revs to 8k. This engine is just an ej22 with 2 extra cylinders so 9k isnt that much of a stretch.

@@nicoleibundgut534It's a 79mm stroke, same as the ej25. It was originally 75mm, like the ej18/20/22. So piston speeds are considerable more reasonable lol!

4g63 and honda guys are already in the 6s and 7s Subarus are too expensive and weak to build for these kinds of conditions

Not many cars can do both, almost any car can be fast in a straight line with enough money but can it do it reliably. At the end of the day you would still be driving a "Honda" which is not as cool by any means.

really cool to just sit and watch how this guy set everything up, pretty clever. he said theat they are worried about making too much noise and raising egt with an ignition cut, yet you see antilag and 2step and wot box setups using an ignition cut all the time, do these cars have to acheive a certain noise and emissions standards? are they worried about burning parts up with fireballs with an ignition cut?
Great question, we'll have to ask him next time we see him!
A lot of tracks have noise restrictions, and the WTAC is in Australia which seems to be very strict on everything so at a guess the car is aimed at complying with the track regulations there, although there might well be similar rules at the cars local stomping ground too - Taz.
