- This meal is the ultimate plant-based transition. Seitan flawlessly mimics the texture of meat, while this recipe is expertly seasoned. You'll be amazed at how closely it resembles the steak dinners you fondly recall. Plus, it's incredibly simple to prepare, sure to impress even the most skeptical eaters.

Ingredients and Method for Seitan Steak:
2 cups Vital Wheat Gluten Flour
1 tbsp chickpea flour
1 1/4 cups water
1 tsp smoked paprika
1 tbsp Better Than Bouillon sautéed onion
1 1/2 tsp My Vegan Kitchen Life ™ all purpose seasoning
2 tbsp liquid aminos
2 tbsp of grapeseed oil
In a dutch oven or large pot add 8 cups of water, The bouillon, oil, and the liquid aminos. Stir to combine and bring to a boil.
In a large mixing bowl add the wheat gluten flour, chickpea flour and the dry seasonings, use a wisk to combine ingredients. Add 3/4 of the 1 1/4 cup of water. Use your spoon or hands to combine the flour water mixture. The mixture will thicken very quickly, Scrape any dry flour from the sides of the bowl and continue to combine. If the dough seems too dry, slowly add some of the remaining water and combine. Once the dough is combined it should look like a stretchy doughy form. Use your hands to kneed the dough for 2 minutes. Allow to sit for 5 mins. Use a sharp knife and cut into desired shape.
Place the seitan in the pot of boiling broth. Reduce the heat to medium, cover the pot slightly allowing steam to escape from the pot. Set a timer and cook for an hour. Do not over cook. Check every 15 minutes or so, making sure the seitan doesn’t stick to the bottom of the pot. Make sure there’s also enough water in the pot. If the water begins to dry out just add more. Once The seitan is cooked remove from pot allow to cool.
You can store the cooked seitan for up to a week in the refrigerator.
This recipe can be adjusted for chicken flavored seitan just replace the beef flavored bouillon with chicken flavored bouillon.
You can also save any left over liquid from the seitan pot for broth to be used in future recipes.. The broth can be stored in the fridge for up to a week or freezer for up to 3 months.

I'm going to get the courage to make some seitan for the first time after watching this.
I love love using smoked paprika in so many things. I make a pot of greens almost every week with smoked paprika and it tastes just like you put up a ham hock or smoked turkey leg in there 😂 I'm a new vegan for health reasons, but still love the taste of meat.

Hello 👋🏼, one question you said in your description to add more water to the pot if water starts to dry out with the seitan. Just about how much water to add if that happen? Thanks for sharing I am interested to making this "steak" 😉😊
best to add stock if you have it spare so that you keep the flavour, just add 1/4 cup so it doesnt stick. If theres still a long time left to cook then add more as needed.

I cook with Seitan and you have to add more of chick pea flour or it’s going to be tough to eat I can tell the way you was cutting it’s was tough in texture

Great question …I’ve never tried to freeze it. I usually make enough for a week’s worth of dinners 🤔

it turned out really good. after i boiled and cooled them, i breaded and pan-fried. next time i will make the slices thinner so they're more crispy. but if i'd made gravy and had rice, millet or potatoes on the side the thickness would've been perfect.@@myvegankitchenlife

Most VEGANS did not stop eating meat because they hate the taste...they hate the cruelty, environmental impact, cost, and toxic health damage. Personally I like my faux fried chicken and fish and faux turkey sandwich which I remember fondly from eating it 50+ years but, don't give me animal flesh.! 🤢
If u are transitioning from carnivore to vegetarian to VEGAN it helps to find plant based copycat foods like ham and cheese or vegan meat crumbles, burgers and tuna salad. As you learn more you'll learn how to make the style of food so a carrot salad sandwich may hit the spot with a veggie soup. Tofu scramble makes a great breakfast entree and the carrot hot dogs and now steak will satisfy both meat and plant based eaters with the same flavor and texture profiles.
Just have an open mind.
You are NOW eating healthy so it will not taste like junk food you liked before.

I just found your channel. I make something similar to yours. I make chick'n air fried steak. Like chicken fried steak. I use VWG, real potato flakes, nutritional yeast and seasonings. Add hot mushroom broth to the VWG. I let it sit for a little then shape. Seeing this make me want to try your recipe for dinner. I also make jerky with seitan too, so i can have something on the go if I am out and about.

@myvegankitchenlife you can use the recipe you have for the steak. Let it rest in the fridge for 30 min to an hour. Maybe tie in a knot about 2-3 balls out of the seitan mixture and simmer. When done pull apart the seitan into strips and marinate overnight and dehydrate or put in the oven on lowest setting. I have this chiplote seasoning and mix with some braggs and let that marinate on the seitan before dehydrating.
