    Another great day. That was a sketchy log crossing at first. That grown in trail looks like a great place to pick up a tick or find a snake. Lots of blow downs. It will not be long and there will not be any trees left to blow down. LOL. Tough day on the the trail navigating through all that. Well done for getting through that plus navigating through the dark. That was a late completion for you. Congrats on finishing without bailing this time. Memorable trip. Have a great day.

      The overgrown parts were a concern but not so much this trip. Now when we did it a couple years ago in July, we say rattlesnakes almost every hour and while walking through this area and similar areas it was very nerve racking. Thought for sure we would have gotten bitten. Very late end. It was waaaaaay past my bed time. Glad we got to finish this one.

    What an adventure that was. It had a little bit of everything. Wild terrain, swampy parts and then adding in the final night hiking segment.
    Awesome video per usual and I had a great time. Until the next adventure 🥂

      It certainly was an adventure with a little bit of everything. Well more overgrowth than desired. A nice little trail and with a little maintenance could be a great trail.

    The blow downs with thorns on the trail sounds bad enough. Then add snakes and ticks lol. Glad it was better. Props for taking on these challenging trips. 👏👍

      Thanks! My legs were all cut up after this trip. Removing a couple conditions from the equation helps but it is still a tough trail overall. But it made it more tolerable. I do think it is a beautiful trail overall but needs a little TLC.

    Great finisher Dan! Man you looked tired at the end. Thought for sure you were going to honker down with 5 miles left. Must feel good to cross this one off the list 👍

    Again, I love the morning coffee chats and reflecting on what changes may need to be made in the future. You make it look easy but it's not!

      Thanks Darcy! I like doing the morning talks as well. I’ll keep them in. This trail is definitely tougher than others.

    End of April beginning of May is they way to go before it gets wicked hot & humid, buggy and overgrown...

    Where was that overgrown area? I will be at a KTA weekend soon and if we have time we might be able to get to it

      Most of the overgrown areas were in the east loop. The first few miles from the connector from the west loop was overgrown off and on for long stretches over several miles. Mainly mountain laurel. The rest of the way had overgrown thorns. I would say the worst was between miles 34 - 40-ish. Now the blowdowns on the east loop were terrible. Some humongous near the creek. Very tough to get around. These miles were using the paper map that maps it in one loop for the west and east loops without the connector trail counted. In a month or so the thorns will be much worse I’m guessing.

      @@backpackingadventures4813 from what I’ve hiked just in day sections I’ve seen burns run had a lot of blowdowns. Was that the creek you were referring to? I think we’re going to try and cut all those

      @@zebfry7765 I’m thinking so. If they were the massive ones I shoes in the video then definitely. They were the hardest to get by. But that stretch had tons more but smaller

    would you recommend clockwise or counterclockwise if doing entire trail? where would you start?

    • @backpackingadventures4813
      @backpackingadventures4813  8 місяців тому +2

      I’ve done it twice and both times I’ve done it counter clockwise wise so I can’t say through experience which is easier. It seems counter clockwise would be when I look back and try to think going through opposite way. But Thales part that made it tougher wasn’t really the ups and downs but more so with the rocks, the high amount of blowdowns and the overgrowth. Those things made it a slower go.
