"...so heaven forbid, I gotta really sit up very far..." - priceless Shug! 😂
Engage the core!!!
It's the Bean Show with special guest, Shug.
Whoooooo Buddy))))
The question is if you have a bag for Bean, a bean bag if you will........thank you, I'm here all day.
Applause!
For all the content you put into public hammock education. Dude, you are awesome.
mucho appreciato~~~
I noticed you larks-headed your headlamp onto your ridgeline. I used to do that too...Until I realized that I could just clamp the headlamp onto the line using the hinge of my headlamp. It makes getting it off in the dark much easier. I haven't had any problems with it falling doing it that way. It also fixes the light in a position that doesn't shine in my eyes or wiggle around if I need some indirect lighting at night. Give it a try if you haven't already. It's worked great for me and is one of those tiny little details that has improved my setup for me.
I may try but you know how old men are set in their ways.......
shugemery : It makes for a quicker draw on those cold, new moon nights early (Early!) in the morning before the sun's up and you have a few extra layers between you and your midnight piss. Every second counts!
It's definitely worth a try, it's worked great for me or I never would've mentioned it to you. You've shared so many good tips with me, I figured I could share an idea that may help you.
A gear hammock under your rear hammock is a near and dear hammock!
Whoooooo Buddy))))
Did not hear a word, I was watching the dog.... LOL!!
Shug, never thought anyone could steal the show from you, but Bean gave you a run for money today ;) Wooodoggie!
He is pretty fun.
A little Friday Shugar, just what I needed.
Whoooooo Buddy))))
I think you need to bring on this guest star more. It'll be great for numbers.
Aye.....but numbers be danged~~~~
I just love that little Bean!
He is a charmer.
I only use a mesh ridgeline organizer from Dutch and hang my headlamp on the ridgeline. Cool little dog and he looks something like our dog. Maybe he could be Shug's new hiking partner! WhooooBuddy))) 😀
If the weather was mild and no snow, ice and mud and cold I would maybe try a night. But my daughter will reclaim him in early May.
I use those bags for picking up after your dog, for storing Tootsie Rolls in. When I walk my dog, I can nibble on Tootsies from the bag, and NO ONE ever asks to share! They do kind of look at me funny....;-)
Darn good gag!
It’s been a looooong week of anxiously waiting for another Shug video. Happy Days!
Thanks for all of the great expert tips that would take newbies a long time to figure out on their own.
You may be the Lord if Lollygag, but you’re also the #1 ambassador for the hammock life, combining years of experience with a natural gift for teaching...........and wrapped up in one of the most enjoyable personalities on YT. Keep up the fantastic job Shug!
Whoooooo Buddy))))
I have a feeling your daughter is going to be looking for a new dog when she gets back from two month trip.😉
I am just a foster parent for him.
@@shugemery :- That's what I said...now I don't want to ever see my little buddy leave.
That doggie is a winner.
Stay tuned for doggies in tutus next time, everyone.
Whoooooo Buddy))))
Great to see a new post, thank you sir. Wooooo Buddy!!
Whoooooo Buddy))))
Great to see that shoulders got its movement back, and sector sevens got a new guard dog.
Was half expecting a dog hammock to appear 😀. Have a great time with Bean, he looks a real character.
Shoulder feels really good. Bean is fun.
Another great video Shug! LOVE THE DOG!!!
Whooooo Buddy)))) and thankee from the dog.
Several great storage options! Thanks for sharing!
Whooooo Buddy)))))
Thanks for sharing Shug. Mr. Bean is cute.
Gear Hammock is my favorite accessory of all time!
Whoooooo Buddy))))
Fun dog, I loved the part where he made the mean face. Thanks for the motivational message at the end " You are a Winner! " 😀
Y'elcome and thankee.
Good times with the granddog. Glad your shoulder is better! Regarding old guys being set in their ways, I’m an old guy, too. Nobody likes a new trick like an old dog.
Thanks. And my shoulder feels great!
That orange side-saddle... would make for a nice "Bean Bag" (as a new camping buddy).
I tried. He prefers not.
Thanks for another great video Shug. Love the Bean. Rescue dogs are the best.
They are a bit rattled but glad to have ya'
I sling a Eno Single Nest underneath my hammock for my 24# dog. Once he gets in he will stay until I start stirring in the morning. Bean is a sweetie. ;^)
Bet he likes that.
Now that was some good stuff! Nice to see all those options! Bean, too. I’m waiting to see you balancing Bean on your unicycle! 😉
Don't temp me!....
Bean has a handy balance divot (at the base of his tail), just the right size for a nose. LOL
Love love my Dutchware Chameleon and accessories. Great video Shug
Real good stuff.
Your new sidekick lol Thanks for the info and laughs.
Y'elcome
Beans been converted to hammock sleeping too, noticed he yawned when he got in it lol
He sure loves a good nap.
Very cool little dog!
Whoooooo Buddy))))
Love the mascot !
Whooooo Buddy)))))
Whooo Beanie! Love the new co-star. I hike & camp with my dogs, & they love it.
Whooo, buddy.
I get to visit Bean....and my daughter this week. Hope Bean remembers me!
Really like your videos ! I have learned alot from you (and others). I'm not as young as I used to be and I really appreciate the comfort a hammock brings. Gets me out in the forest more.
I like my 11 hour sleep in mine!
Thank you for posting!
Whoooooo Buddy))))
Thanks for showing a bunch of options. My current go to and favorite is the peak shelf.
Whooooo Buddy)))))
Bean's the Bomb! Hope to see more Bean! :)
Oh...you just may.
Wooooh Dogy, thank you for sharing
Woof and thankee.
Great vid idea, Shug. Thumbs up.
Whoooooo Buddy))))
Excellent video/information as always Shug! But it got me to missin' my furry backpackin' companions from years gone by. The "Bean" is the perfect size to be takin' on a hammock trip and if he sported his own doggie backpack I'd have me some additional storage options as well. Keep those videos a comin', you always make me smile when I need it most.
I might if the trail were not covered in snow, ice, mud and still cold. By Spring he will be back with my daughter.
Thanks for the inspiration. I made my own pouches today.
Good to hear that.
Hey Shug! I’ve been a fan since last year when I started hammock camping for the first time. I’m still learning and your videos have been a great help. You’re such a cool guy and I love all the clown skills you show. I’m building up to attempt my first winter snow camping this year in my hammock. Thanks again for the videos!
Make sure you have good warm clothes and boots for when you are not in that hammock.
Mr Bean is a funny dude, more of him!
I saw a dog once in a gear hammock.
Good info, woooo buddy!
Tried to get him in the sidesling. He fought. I tapped out.
I wanna try hammock camping this summer.
THE IMPERATOR Don’t do it.. your old tent will collect dust, your sleeping pad will never see the light of day again. You’ll never sell your old stuff cause you’ll convince yourself you’ll use it again one day but you wont. You’ll run off with your hammock like its a mistress and have the best sleep of your night. I don’t even much care for my bed anymore. I miss my old simple camping days when nights in the woods were supposed to be uncomfortable and home was sanctuary. Hammocks are like some new dimension, nothing makes sense anymore.
Step #1 to hammock camping! Locate 2 sturdy trees about 4 farmer paces apart in your yard. My yard has NO trees, the neighbor's lot has trees too far apart!!!! It makes it difficult to practice set up. I'm a gunna get out a post hole digger and "plant" my own trees, darn it!
Carl Gonzo u forgot to mention how you will decide that sleeping in a hammock by yourself is better than sleeping with a girlfriend or wife every night, so u decide to stay single forever!
Whoooooo Buddy))))
Why wait until summer? No better time than the present.
Thanks shug for more great tips,
Y'elcome.
Shug - this video couldn't have come at a better time! Was just discussing hammock storage with some buddies over the weekend...and here you come with the visuals. Excellent as always Sensei
Whooooo Buddy))))
Just got back from Key West. Took two Shug Shirts and paraded them around. On jet skis, parasailing, a moped and fishing boat. My wife and I had a great time and proudly showed our support for you my friend. Great vid. I need to make a mesh gear back very soon. Been needing one.
Salty Sea-Shirts!
Great dog
Whoooooo Buddy))))
Little beanie tends to love you
Excellent video again shug
I do love all the different storage options available even though I do not have any of them just yet
Whoooooo Buddy))))
Great video! Lots of useful ways to store gear.
Thanks for the video
I ate carbs today!
Me too lol
Woo doggy! Bean is cool.
Whooooo Buddy)))))
I love my warbonnet ElDorado. It doesn’t have the shelf like the blackbird but the stuff sack clips to the ridgeline and it’s plenty big for me.
It is one of my favorite hammocks. I just add my mesh ridgeline organizer.
Good stuff as always. Thanks much!
Whoooooo Buddy))))
Clark Outdoor hammocks have included integrated storage with under hammock pockets for a long time. As of a few years ago the user can now access those pockets from inside the hammock vs reaching out and under hammock.
True. I've never tried Clark though. My buddy Hickery likes his. But those bottom Clark pockets seem more for clothing as insulation.
Love Mr Bean. Hope he hosts more of your shows! Bruce from FLA
He will.
Hope you make a lot more videos with Bean these next few weeks because Bean stole the show! He's the dog! Loved the out takes with Bean, too. He'll be toting his own pack soon.
For sure.
Thanks so much for the inspiration - I'm now going to make my own ridgeline storage bag from a spare neck gaitor and a ridgeline phone mount from polymorph plastic
Righto.....polymorph~~
Thank you for the vid Shug!
Y'elcome.
Thank you!!:-)
This helps a lot!
Whoooooo Buddy))))
Didn't know there was so many options for hammocks, I do use my Ridgerunners saddle bags for stuff like my shoes and my glasses, also take everything out of my pockets if I've not been hiking all day and don't change out of sweaty paints. ty bro
Whooooo Buddy)))))
Thanks for sending me over to Tom's site. Besure to hit him up for your dividend. LOL Another entertaining and informative installation of you endless Hammock Knowledge. I thank you sir.
Not sure who Tom is but Whooooo Buddy all the same.
@@shugemery "Dutch"
Ah haaa! Seems like a Lyle to me~~~~
@@shugemery Could be... Never know.
Motorcycle / hiking trips, I take along a "Kids" hammock, to put My AGATT MC coat gear etc, to keep off the wet ground etc.)
Righto!
Great vid
Thankee.
outstanding!
Whoooooo Buddy))))
I just paid Jacks R Better $35 to give you a high five, haha.
Thank you for showing me the Gear hammock/Pack Cover sir, it is exactly what I have been looking for.
Hope it works out for you.
I just wanted to drop you a note to express my appreciation for you. I woke up this morning feeling sort of blue, turned on your videos, and I feel better now. Weird, Huh?
Made my day.....Glad.
I would just like to say I think you shug for everything you do for the Hammock camping world . I know I’ve said this before but you are the reason I am now in a hammock it’ll be three years this April and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it. Well I got called a few times but I figured it out. Pretty much every time I watch one of your videos I learned something new. There is a gentleman by the name of Mike Williams, he’s a member of Hammock forms he started making dog hammocks or gear hammock . He makes a great product. Your daughters dog is adorable. Wish you the best I was looking forward to your next video.
Thank you Erick.
Whoo Doggie another Great Vid from Shug!!!!
Whoooooo Buddy))))
Bean is way too cute !!!!
He sure is.
Cute dog great name I think you have been upstaged 😀 He should definitely be part of your act
He is back with my daughter now on a circus tour. Bean is a good hind leg walker.
Very cool video bud. I have yet to try a camp hammock yet. Heard a guy called them bear burritos once. Totally ruined it for me lol. They seem really nice though especially for River overnight trips. So very compact.
Yeah. I prefer tacos.
there is a learning curve to hammocks but worth as I sleep 10 to 12 hours in the woods.
Bears and dragons can tear through a tent as easily as a hammock, realistically. I wouldn't call one more secure than the other. That being said, I'm still using tents because I prefer not having to worry about finding a hang spot if i end up in a field and I like having more room to spread things out to dry overnight in the tent. Plus you know what they say about hiker sex... It's InTents!
Great video as always!! Sorry to see that Amock did not make an appearance in this one. I love all of the storage in the Draumr & Draumr XL!
For another day.
Bert's Bees! My favorite
Tasty!
Clicked for the mogwai, stayed for the shug
Whoooooo Buddy))))
Shug. Keep up the great informative vids! Hope you wont be insulted that to me you are the Robin Williams of Bushwacking. (Whereas I think of Nagualero as the Martha Stewart of Bushwacking. He gave me a wicked case of frying pan envy.)
Carry on!
I do get that quite often. Even when I was a circus clown.
Love it
Whoooooo Buddy))))
Love to see a gear list of hammock gear (start to finish) that would outfit a beginning hammock backpacker. Hammock, top quilt, tarp, etc....
Most of it is in my Pack Videos. I don't really keep a list.
ua-cam.com/play/PL0514EDB1F6389FA6.html
Good video
Whooooo Buddy)))))
You got a pupper!!!!!
A loaner.
Thx Shug!
👏👏👏
Y'elcome~~~~
"Lord of Lollygag". Now there is a T-shirt idea if ever I've heard of one.
Could happen. Been on my list of things to get to.
good vid sir shugg love the doggy hehe peace y all
Whoooooo Buddy))))
I know this is a year late but I made my gear sling by getting a cheap hammock of them world wide interwebs for about 15$, then cut it in half. I whipped the ends, added some paracord to them, and had one for me and one for the missus. They are just big enough to fit our backpacks and anything I may want in the middle of the night I just set on top of the backpack. Keeps the hammock uncluttered but still provides storage. For my shoes I use an S-biner through the pull tabs and hang them off the suspension line at the foot end. Easy-Peasy and a super cheap solution. Hopefully this will help someone to save some money where they can to spend more where it matters.
Righto! Whooooo Buddy))))
Thanks for the side-sling review, I was wondering if you could stuff a winter top quilt in there.
Now I know that I can.
Do larger items in the side-sling push against your underquilt and compress the down?
I use a Dutch water bottle holder on the highest external chameleon attachment points (foot end) to hold my quilt stuff sacks, and other bags. Always know where they are when I’m packing up.
Does not seem too. It can be staked out away from the hammock as well.
"That's Bean, my daughters Dog..." DROP . LOL
Whoooooo Buddy))))
Hiya Shug! Fun video :)
Just the sidepockets.
Lotta stuff stays in my pack on the ground. Some hang their pack.
Hey Shug, I've found that hair elastics are ready made shock cord prusics, and they come in all sorts of fun colours to boot!
There ya' go. My hair for sure does not need them!
Hey Shug...take a look at the Peak Shelf and Peak Shelf bag from Jared at Simply Light Designs...The Saddle Bags are cool too.
I don't have any of his gear. Hear good things.
I'll use a ridgeline organizer, but not the bag style. It's webbing loops that I can clip everything on to with whatever size clips or S-biners I want to use. I then use a larger S-biner to hang my shoes so nothing climbs in while I'm snoozing.
Those gear hammocks are awesome, too. Very multi-purpose. Gear, seat, pack cover!
Sound interesting.
At 19:17 i just noticed the "Whooo doggy" hahaaaaa :D
Yessir!
Good stuff Shug! Workin' on a little bag myself! Thanks. ZZ.
Whooooo Buddy)))))
I got 2 salvaged tent gear shelves that I can tie to the ridge line of my envelope style bug net that I can use to hold stuff when I get a chance to try out my hammock
Good stuff.
Hey buddy that gear hammock looks very like my UKHammocks one!
Matt may have sent that to me at one time years ago.....
On the Ridge Runner, there is also a shallow pocket behind the head end for storage. Glasses, phone, wallet or other small items.
I always forget about that one.
I make a quick release knot around a tree, like a highwaymans hitch, then i hang my backpack on it using a carbine hook that i added to the backpack. I hang it at about chest-ish level.
When i'm ready to leave, i just put an arm in a strap, pull the knot, it comes lose and i put my other arm in and i'm ready to walk.
No lifting, easy access and easy to untie.
Must have a heavy pack huh?
@@shugemery Nah, just 8 kg (with food & water). Main reasons: i got a bad back and i like to access gear easily.
Whooooo Buddy)))))
WOOO BUDDY!!!!!!!!!
Backatcha.....
She Who MUST be Obeyed requested that my YT videos be played on the big TV. After several videos, I put your state fair performance video on. She giggled and laughed at everything and turned to me and asked, "Isn't that the camper, hiker guy you watch?" Ya! That's Shug. New convert. Ah! Togetherness! PS. She likes your "Up at the lake music playing" with that young couple.
I miss that young couple. They split.
@@shugemery thumbs down on the split
I miss jamming with them.
I had a greenbean flashback from the "Meshy the smilin' organizer" appearance.
I have moved on.......I have. Whooooo Buddy)))))
Yeah gonna have to try the ridgeline. Btw, I put my boots slightly under me. One boot holds my bear mace, one holds my water bottle.
Good stuff there.
