The ae86 does owe its popularity to initial D but that doesn't change the fact that it is one of the most iconic cars ever .Btw that probably wasn't a stock 4age because with some modification the car can reach gtr performance and beat the 270hp "gentleman's agreement"
That's because his 86 is also not stock. And it's very clear that he is the more skilled driver. An equally skilled driver in the gtr would of won. His line was shit.
Keep in mind DK is on a whole other level. This man chose to street race above knowing he’ll be kicked out of professional racing if caught, but he still chose to even when he brings in the AE86 into the mixture. It doesn’t matter what car DK is behind as far as the steering wheel, but I will tell you that he can keep up with any top end production car (and then some) in an AE86 even, and that’s mind blowing. It just shows that the driver makes the car. CAN you imagine if DK chose a different car every time he raced on a circuit? (side thought) I would’ve love to have seen him change up his car up end up breaking ever record he set himself previously.
DK’s personal 86 is like an instrument he’s refined to his exact tastes and desires over the years. In fact, he’s so in tune with the way it handles that even something as small as *replacing the doors* with carbon-fiber doors was enough for him to be upset that it messed with his muscle memory of driving the car. Though, he’s not exactly a stranger to driving machines that handle completely differently.
