The start of the path for Brazilian drivers was paved by Fittipaldi and Piquet (drivers that don't get the credit they deserve). In his early career he drove some of the most absolute mules of cars but he won all of his championships in good McLaren cars and he died in a badly made, gimped Williams. As I said, one of the all-time greats and a personal hero of mine but let's not diminish all that is F1 under his shadow. Even he, if he were among us, would say that it is disrespectful.

That thing he does with the throttle is pretty insane. He's basically doing a very quick and sophisticated "trial and error" to feel out the exact moment to get back on the gas. He gets the car on the limit and lightly prods the gas pedal constantly to measure the grip. When it's too early he keeps prodding. Once his senses give him a couple of green lights in a row that tell him the grip is there, he buries it. He had his own in-built, wizard-level, traction control system.... Or maybe it was all in the loafer. Genius
He got that habit when driving turbocharged f1 cars like the Lotus. Back the it would help keeping the revs high on corners to keep the turbo spooled and ready to go on exit. Even after turbos he maintained that habit to improve grip on corner exit. Edit: apparently he's done since his karting days, so what I said above is not correct.
It's a technique called "punta taco" that keeps the rotation at high levels. Doing that, the engine will respond a lot faster, keeping the engine full at most of the time.
I use this same technique on track from watching this video many years ago. You are right the goal is to cheat and find grip to get back on the power as early as possible.
A bit of trivia. After this drive, Ayrton said that the car was very fragile and the chassis was flexing way too much. Honda delayed the NSX for a few months solely to stiffen it up to Ayrton's liking.

You can see with his inputs how he’s trying to maintain slip angle through the corners. The steering should look straighter and feel vague as the essential rotates less than 8 degrees and he distributes the weight easily with his gas and brake. It seems simple in a sense but you can really just how refined these world class legends were!

Not entirely true....i believe Schumacher and Hakkinen were the best of the best and have represented the epitome of F1 where Ferrari and Mclaren really were top of the game. The car is NA and less than 300hp. There's not enough low end torque to induce a spin at those speeds. What he's doing with the blips is actually getting to the limit of understeer on corner exit.
@@jackson5068 it definitely had more than enough power as the car only weighted 1300kg. that's 4kg per hp and as it had 300nm of torque, that`s 40kg per kg of torque. in a rear wheel drive with a midship engine. he's bliping the gas as to transfer the weight so it doesn't spin out actually, which is something pretty hard to do

But since the throttle is on the right handlebar, the clutch is a lever on the left handle bar and the gear lever is at out feet (left to be exact, and you click it into place with the ball of your foot or toe) But we rev match very similar, for quite some time going back to at least the 60's. Since a motorcycles powerband is kinda like turbo lag, especially with smaller engines. If for example the powerband is from 10k-15k when coming into a corner we do the same thing as car drivers but basically rev match so that on apex you're smack dab in the powerband, utilising all the power out of the corner. But these days with quickshifters and autoblippers some people don't rev match since the electronics do the work. But now that i think of it, locking up the rear might be a concern for cars which could lead to spinning out. Higher skilled riders lock up the rear while rev matching to back in the bike (slide the rear wheel out to position the bike in the right direction) to reduce leaning. The problem with that is if you're not skilled enough you'll highside. Which is where the bike flings you into the air mid corner.

It does not. Constant throttle jerking switches the balance of the car back & forth, giving lower available grip for cornering. Today he would have no chance with that technique

I owned an NSX for 15 years. It is an AMAZING car. This -R version is a beast. The only problem I had was the stock breaking setup would fade under track use... to the point you step on the brakes and all you get is brake pedal shudder with minimal slowing. Scary moments indeed!

As a fan of this incredibly talented man, this is the real way to drive and especially a manual. Ayrton always preferred the manual gear change in cars and felt it needed more skill and as an owner of a manual vehicle myself, I agree. It does take more skill and coordination with clutch and throttle. For the youngsters out there who think they know how to drive, watch this man, he makes us all like learners. I miss him so much. When he died I couldn't find another one like him in F1, I might have to consider that there's no one like him again in the sport. its just heel toeing. and its not to keep the revs high. its to rev match so the rear tyres don't lock up. its a must if driving fast and slowing down fast in cars without auto blip and motorcycles of course. the reason why they used to keep the revs up during cornering was in turbo cars with lag, to keep the turbo spooled.
We’re so lucky to have this footage. Aryton was in that era where lots of things got missed and forgotten about purely because we didn’t have a 1000 cameras to record shit. The only way this magic survived the years was through storytelling. That makes sense for legends hundreds of years ago but this was 30/35 years ago.

Exatamente! Certa vez vi um vídeo de um piloto profissional que tentou copiar a técnica de Senna, e acabou sendo mais lento, e dizendo que outros também tentaram imitar, mas nenhum conseguiu ser mais rápido do que normalmente seria, sem usar essa técnica; o que é ainda mais impressionante.
Na verdade essa técnica de bombar o acelerador em carros antigos funciona mesmo dependendo do carro,mas não sei se ele fazia isso no fórmula 1,ele também tinha um grande controle na sensibilidade do acelerador,mas em carros modernos acho q não funciona mesmo

You can see with his inputs how he’s trying to maintain slip angle through the corners. The steering should look straighter and feel vague as the essential rotates less than 8 degrees and he distributes the weight easily with his gas and brake. It seems simple in a sense but you can really just how refined these world class legends were!

The car is NA and less than 300hp. There's not enough low end torque to induce a spin at those speeds. What he's doing with the blips is actually getting to the limit of understeer on corner exit.

@@garethbattersby 🤔hmm i don't actually know 😂ig being motorcycle riders danger is rarely on oir minds. But since the throttle is on the right handlebar, the clutch is a lever on the left handle bar and the gear lever is at out feet (left to be exact, and you click it into place with the ball of your foot or toe)
But we rev match very similar, for quite some time going back to at least the 60's. Since a motorcycles powerband is kinda like turbo lag, especially with smaller engines. If for example the powerband is from 10k-15k when coming into a corner we do the same thing as car drivers but basically rev match so that on apex you're smack dab in the powerband, utilising all the power out of the corner. But these days with quickshifters and autoblippers some people don't rev match since the electronics do the work. But now that i think of it, locking up the rear might be a concern for cars which could lead to spinning out. Higher skilled riders lock up the rear while rev matching to back in the bike (slide the rear wheel out to position the bike in the right direction) to reduce leaning. The problem with that is if you're not skilled enough you'll highside. Which is where the bike flings you into the air mid corner.

It does not. Constant throttle jerking switches the balance of the car back & forth, giving lower available grip for cornering. Today he would have no chance with that technique

I owned an NSX for 15 years. It is an AMAZING car. This -R version is a beast. The only problem I had was the stock breaking setup would fade under track use... to the point you step on the brakes and all you get is brake pedal shudder with minimal slowing. Scary moments indeed!

It also effects the weights in front and back. So you can bring the power to the back wheels before they are spinning when accelerating.

The reasons, which in my opinion, make Senna the best of all times are several:
Senna was a magician of the clues, everyone knows. And in an era of cars without any technology, archaic monopods, without quality damper, without changes and highly technological aerodynamics like today, he shone and showed techniques of unequaled piloting, in addition to fighting ferociously for its position, to have great claw and determination since came from a country that did not have the power of the greats of Formula 1.
He won races before entering Maclaren with cars that were technically inferior to the leading cars of the season.. And precisely because of his exceptional talent being recognized by the owners of team was called to compose this team next to Prost.
Senna gained space in Maclaren for being appreciated by all not only for his way of guiding but for being extremely thorough in the pits, for studying too much equipment. But he had to share his space with Prost. Scumacher at Ferrari always had a team that worked almost entirely for him, including Barrichello drove too much for the good of the team and favored him in some races.
Senna also ran and won to give joy to his people, so he made it a point to take the Brazilian flag in the car and show it in the victories, show that despite a working people and suffered by governments that did not value the power of its working people , he showed all his countrymen that they believed in life, because through work their dreams were conquered. That is why he ran on that tragic morning in Imola, because he did not want to disappoint so many fans around the world and he took with him not only the flag of Brazil but Austria, to honor Roland Ratzenberg who died the previous day. up to the crash site when he saw the injured pilot, getting punished for it).
Senna struggled for the safety of the drivers, tried to lead the off-track meetings and was supported by everyone looking for improvements in the circuits and for their safety.
He even risked his life by stopping the car on the runway to save the life of the pilot Erick Comas who was unconscious in his car after an accident. Senna switched off the engine and this attitude saved him because the engine would explode and set the car aflame. Erick gave a statement saying that he regrets that he could not have repaid, he was prevented from doing so, because when Senna was injured, no one stopped the car, they even passed his blood for several laps, although the gravity of the image they saw . You can remember that here was even a celebration, a podium and a victory prize on that day and weekend. The people of Brazil found cowardice and absurd insensitivity.
Schumacher is a great yes, an excellent driver and talented, deserves all the records and has my admiration and all, but Senna is incomparable, since he was arguably the best, the most charismatic, the sensitive, the myth, the hero, great magician of the tracks of all time.

I think Lauda is the best for the way he worked with the mechanics to better the cars and also what he went through with the accident and all, and had the courage to get back in the car and continue to race. When he died I couldn't find another one like him in F1, I might have to consider that there's no one like him again in the sport. its just heel toeing. and its not to keep the revs high. its to rev match so the rear tyres don't lock up. its a must if driving fast and slowing down fast in cars without auto blip and motorcycles of course. the reason why they used to keep the revs up during cornering was in turbo cars with lag, to keep the turbo spooled.

@@js92css actually, there are a lot of much less skilled drivers who can max out a production cars; some of them work as tire engineers. For someone like Senna, a high performance street car like the NSX is really "slow" for him. Senna's genius was maxing out proper race cars.
His throttle blipping, was so smooth, Viva Ayrton.
qualquer piloto profissional vendo isso diria (não sabendo que é o Senna): "este aí não sabe o que tá fazendo!!!" " tá balançando muito o volante na curva", "tá bombeando muito o acelerador (tem que pisar de uma vez só) no apex" etc.... a tocada dele desafia qualquer lógica, era quase uma obra de arte, era uma estilo único que conseguia ser mais rápido do que qualquer um...

Exatamente! Certa vez vi um vídeo de um piloto profissional que tentou copiar a técnica de Senna, e acabou sendo mais lento, e dizendo que outros também tentaram imitar, mas nenhum conseguiu ser mais rápido do que normalmente seria, sem usar essa técnica; o que é ainda mais impressionante.

Na verdade essa técnica de bombar o acelerador em carros antigos funciona mesmo dependendo do carro,mas não sei se ele fazia isso no fórmula 1,ele também tinha um grande controle na sensibilidade do acelerador,mas em carros modernos acho q não funciona mesmo
