- I'm all wound up and I felt the need to record this right away. Strangely enough, going to see "Me, Myself and Irene" in theaters proved to be an important event in my life. Some of my favorite music that I've ever heard was introduced to me as a result of seeing that film. The soundtrack features a cover of "Can't Find the Time to Tell You" by Hootie and the Blowfish. It's my favorite thing I've ever heard by that band, hands down. As it turns out? It's a cover. The song was written by Bruce Arnold, and the original recording is by his band, Orpheus.
CHORUS/VERSE: G-Am7-Bm7-Am7 (repeat as needed)
BRIDGE: Em-Bm7-Em-Bm7-[Em-D-G-C]
CHORUS/VERSE: A-Bm7-C#m7-Bm7 (repeat as needed)
BRIDGE: Em-Bm7-Em-Bm7-Em-Bm7-[Em-D-C-D]
CHORUS: G-Am7-Bm7-Am7 (repeat as needed)
ENDING: Bm7-Am7 (repeat to end)
I saw Me, Myself, and Irene when it was in theaters all those years ago. I've seen it at least a dozen times. I just watched it again recently and for some reason, now in late 2021, this song really stood out and I have become quite enthralled with it.
You've done a great cover of this song. I fell out of guitar a few years ago and your cover has helped me decide to pick it up again. Thanks for that. 👍🏼
Just magnificent. If talent meant anything nowdays, this video would have 100 times the number of hits. It most certainly deserves it. You did a great, great job on a great, great song.
Was searching for the music for this song and your it lol. I remember when I first saw the movie. The sound track was a big influence on me. I played it that much that my son who hadn’t spoken yet started to sing the chorus to “Can’t find the time to tell you” 😆.
Thank you for that, man! I really love this song and share with you the admiration of this movie and soundtrack. They are really important to my life, as well as Steely Dan's songs. Although it's a comedy movie, it brings lots of taughts to us.
Re-introduced to this song recently and love it so much I will listen to any version -- this one is pretty good. Such a beautiful underrated song by Orpheus/Bruce Arnold.
The original artist who sang the song "I can't find the time" by Orpheus. I heard this song when I was in Jr. High 1969. Hootie & the Blowfish redid this.
After a day and a half of google-searching I've come to the conclusion that this song has become self-aware and simply does not want to be tabbed out or played by it's fans minus it's more popular ones.
This video is the first thing to pop up on Google when you search "can't find the time to tell you chords", and it sounds PERFECT!
I normally don't ask this of people on UA-cam, but would you mind listing the chords for us? Myself, and I'm sure tons of other fans, would be very, very grateful.
Your musical tastes are right in my wheelhouse. I still have the first 3 Orpheus albums on vinyl, and my wife and I were lucky enough (and old enough) to have seen the original Steely Dan lineup in concert in April 1974, just months before Becker and Fagen retreated to the studio for nearly 20 years. And you're right about "Me Myself and Irene" being one of the finest soundtrack albums of all time.
Just found this great job 👍
Just that snippet of Steely Dan was so good man.
Love everything by Orpheus. Amazing memories of this Boston band.
I found u again
I love this song
Heard it in 1972
And it was my wedding song
In1983
It makes me cry it’s so beautiful
What a fun intro. Love this song and yes, Ellis Paul's the World Aint Showing Down is just incredible!
Thanks. I just stumbled aross this while checking out the Orpheus version. Until I saw it on the UA-cam lineup, I have no idea Hootie and the Blowfish covered it. Thanks. And I think I was able to get most of the chords from your video, though there are one or two places I'm not sure what you're playing. But I'm 95 percent there, thanks to you and your video.
Dude! Lovely video. The whole history lesson is great as well. I’m currently mid Orpheus epiphany myself (over a decade after you!), and also thanks to the Farelly Bros. I’m planning to do a cover version of the song myself. I dig yours. Well done, bro’! ❤️
Great job! Great to see your enthusiasm about this song. I had the same reaction when I heard this song again. I do recall this song in the 60's.
Hey, thanks! Not a particularly big Hootie fan myself, but I don't hate 'em. They certainly were overplayed when they came out, 'though.
This song appealed to me in a big way when I heard it. I agree with you on the movie, too. Jim Carrey's physical humor is over the top when he's in 'Hank' mode. Makes me want to watch it again soon!
For what it's worth: I shared this video with Bruce Arnold (the songwriter that wrote this) and he loved it! I'm happy with that.
Great cover, its funny this is one one of your best and Mitch decides to troll this one. Oh well you are deserving of praise and I think this spamming is his way of praise.
Fucking awesome cover man! Found the song from that movie as well. I pumped that music for hours today lol. Can't get enough!
LOL now you got me listening to the soundtrack on youtube... Dude, if you got the thumbs up from Bruce Arnold, you don't need much more proof. :) Cheers!
good cover :D
Great job....Another good version is done by Explores Club
Just found out that Bruce Arnold(Orpheus) passed away today........ R I P
Nice version! I love your enthusiasm for music and where it came from. My friend was Trooper Pritchard in Me, Myself and Irene, and I have met Bobby Farrelly a couple of times at his annual cookout. Two guys from the original Orpheus run the open mic that I go to every Saturday night. And, Ellis Paul is from around here, so I have no excuse for not seeing him ever. Maybe I can rectify that. Thanks!
LOL...I thought the intro was interesting...and I enjoyed your cover...I never knew the lyrics and you sang them so clearly, so thank you:)) Great job playing too!! *****
This song has been running in my head for days now. I like your version better than Hootie's. Orpheus did the definitive rendition.
@Greenvillins CHORUS/VERSE: G-Am7-Bm7-Am7 (repeat as needed)
BRIDGE: Em-Bm7-Em-Bm7-[Em-D-G-C]
CHORUS/VERSE: A-Bm7-C#m7-Bm7 (repeat as needed)
BRIDGE: Em-Bm7-Em-Bm7-Em-Bm7-[Em-D-C-D]
CHORUS: G-Am7-Bm7-Am7 (repeat as needed)
ENDING: Bm7-Am7 (repeat to end)
Dude...I too was blown away by the Hootie cover of "Can't find the time to tell you".
I am a guitar player as well and have tried in vain to find the sheet music to
that song to no avail. You have nailed it my friend. So please, pretty please,
with sugar on top (see Pulp Fiction), can you send me the chords to that song?!
It would complete me (see Jerry MacGuire)...
You're absolutely right! My views took a dive after you left! That's okay, though. You're back now and all is well.
Do your stuff Mitch! Let me have it! :D
you gots it ralas. I spent my lifetime of mitch breath back in another vid, but its really quite entertaining recognizing the pain and jealousy along with the pure evidence of the lack of life he has in his posts. Sure is a little fun extra to go along with an acoustic song a day... now with "Flaming repetitive turd weekly!" keep it goin! stupidity is a good contrast to the talent.
@MyThirdUserAccount

@Zepster77 Yeah, I used to be a lot more long winded at the beginning of my videos. Starting with the 100th video, I started to save the lengthy speeches until after the performance.
@acousticsongaday Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you!
Good job, not the biggest HATBF fan but that song is pretty cool, didn't know it was an orpheus song either, which is prob. why i like it to begin with. fuckin love that movie
And if you want to hear three different versions. First with Orpheus, second with Rose Colored Glass, and finally with Hootie & the Blowfish: ua-cam.com/video/_zuaxwTlRUo/v-deo.html
Your life must be pretty interesting, Mitch. Tell us more about it.
Here's another version by Rose Colored Glass to consider: ua-cam.com/video/htxgVGon-98/v-deo.html
Cover comienza en minuto 5:13..
JUmp to 5:13
I know this is almost 10 yrs. old, but that was excellent! Although, and I mean no disrespect, but I think if you started the song picking D E G A G would be a better intro then the second time around (hammer) De D B D G... I believe that is how the song goes (Hootie). But I guess, then it wouldn't be yours. Great voice also. Thanks!
good intro
Pretty sure dude knows what posters he has up in his room and why. Let it go, brotha.
Besides the G
I stand corrected. Now there's six. My bad. Carry on! You've got a lot more work ahead of you if you're going to take me down a peg or two.
Great cover=check out I've never seen love like this also by Orpheus on THE BEST OF album. CHEERS!!!
Terry

fala demais!!
Hi, Mitch! I missed you, buddy!
Then again, I knew you couldn't stay away long. You are far too obsessed with me to stay away long.
Only four comments thus far? You're slacking! Get to work!
I feel sorry for this mitch dude. I think he needs a hug, or a puppy. His jealousy is plapable.
I enjoyed your version of a great song. Perhaps if you had the right accompaniment this video would have been even better. I like your playing and singing, but some substance behind you would have been nice.
Good try but it really needs the harmonies and it needs to be more dreamy
"Mitch", what's the point? I mean really? Are you that lonely? If the comments were actually witty, they might be interesting to read. But it's just grade school humor.
Crikey, you lost me at about 5 minutes in... too bad I didn't hear your cover.
intro is tooooooooo long, I tuned off after 2 min 30 secs!
Yeah, with later videos I eventually got smart and saved my talking parts for after the performance.
