The two men on the boat actually witnessed the plane overhead and told the NTSB that it wasn’t more than 100 ft over them when it passed over them. That’s one of the reason they were so quick to the scene.

    • @jackelewish1568
      @jackelewish1568 8 місяців тому +8

The reason they got there so quickly is because they was already near where the crash was, then seen/heard the crash. Them seeing the plane over head or not has nothing to do with how they was there so quickly. It's not like they chased the plane as it flew. That's impossible even if they tried.

I was done like that hunting on top of a mt. one winter day. It was a twin engine private plane I ran hide behind biggest tree in area it was no more than 75’ above tree tops. Few days looking for emergency FAA reports they landed about 35 miles away they was ice up & just about crashed it was Pilots personal family aboard. I walk fast to my Bronco to use my Bag style cell phone to call it in. It happened that long ago. Family was very lucky to made it in to Local airport was the ones told me how to check for the FAA reports. Flying out Florida going to Pa. Had to been in early 80’s. Couple more feet down they would have crashed right within 100 yards of myself.

My aunt worked for Eastern Airlines back then and the stories of the haunting in all the airplanes that EA furnished with parts of 401 were a thing. The most interesting part was that people didn’t know until stuff started happening that there were parts in the aircraft. The hauntings always happened when there was something dangerous the crew needed to know.

I worked at Eastern Air Lines as a gate agent & ticketing supervisor for the last 10 years of their existence. A lot of the people I worked with were there when flight 401 crashed. I heard so much praise for those flight attendants who (after the crash) continued to work for the company. While taking crash desk training (basically fielding calls and contacting next-of-kin and arranging their travel to the nearest airport for briefing) I heard story after story about the crash. The L1011s never had another crash on any route for as long as the airline existed. The 401 flight designation was retired (as are all flights on which something terrible happens), and it was used as a training example.

On a Christmas flight from New York to Detroit the exact same situation happened. I had been feeling semi nauseous and apprehensive for two weeks before the flight but had no idea why. After being in the air for 20 minutes a crewman came out of the cockpit, tore off some of the aisle carpet, opened a trap door and went down. He came up whiter than any ghost from 401. He went back into the cabin and the pilot explained exactly what the issue was. We went back to LaGuardia and circled for an hour to use up the fuel. We then prepared to land assuming the wheels were not down. Fire trucks lined the runway. But the wheels did go down and we landed just fine. I’ve never been so shook.

He always talked about the screaming and crying in the dark, and the cold water. He said it happened so fast. Only a moment between realizing something was wrong and impact. He died 44 years later to-the-day of the crash. It’s difficult to think about the significance of the day. I feel he cheated death one day only for it to come back around. If not the runway could have been foamed for an emergency landing.

He tried to push the feeling down, got out of line for a moment , then got back in line . He told his wife that he was uneasy about the flight . She told him to stop being ridiculous . He got out of line and tried to calm down , then got back in the line . He told his wife that they needed to leave . She told him she was getting on the plane .
So he slugged her and dragged her away . He blamed himself for not being able to warn anyone else .

I did some research and the reason the Tristar didnt sell as well was it there were setbacks in the production of the rolls royce engines specifically designed for the jet and cost overruns as well which contributed to other large airlines such as American Airlines and United Airlines not placing any orders for the jet.

And by the time Lockheed considered contracting a different manufacture such as Prat and Whitney, GE, or CFC. Boeing and Douglas had already rolled the DC-10 and 747 out of their factories. Some numbers based on 2015 - 2020 data from bts.gov:
if you were to board any flight during the year, you’d have about a 1 in 260,256 in a plane accident(not necessarily a crash)
1 in 6,864,250 chance of being on a plane involved in an accident that results in at least 1 fatality.
about 1 in 816,545,929 of actually dying in a plane accident/crash

My then cousin in law worked out of JFK at that time for EA in operations as a control center manager, and told me about the haunting stories at that time. They were all over the airline. I am glad that fellow pilots helped to free the souls of their colleagues. The L-1011 was a great airplane and I flew on it many times JFK-MIA in 1987 to early 1988 as I was an account supervisor at Campbell Ewald working on, yes, the Eastern Airlines ad account.

This type of accident would not happen with today's modern aircraft.
#1. When the autopilot is disengaged, either intentionally or accidentally, there is a loud "bi-doop, bi-doop" warning which is impossible to miss.
#2. Terrain avoidance system. Now, if an aircraft is losing altitude and is too low (other than on final approach for landing) a warning will sound, along with a voice "Terrain! Pull up! Terrain! Pull up!"
#3. ATC system that alerts controllers if an aircraft is too low for the terrain.

I'm English but visited Florida many times, including going on an airboat in the Everglades. The idea of crashing into those Alligator (and God knows what else) infested swamps (that are vast) in the dead of night is absolutely horrendous.
As for the supernatural element, it seems possible and is a compelling story. But given the crash was caused by human error, I'm not covinced of the logic behind the significance of the 'reused parts' element.
I really enjoyed the video. The optimal time for these tales for me is about 40 minutes to 1 hour but longer is great, too. I think on this particular story, there is probably a much longer video as yet unmade, given the disparate elements.
Anyway, another good entry into @TheTapeLibrary

I’ve read a lot about this crash and the paranormal sightings but I haven’t heard such a detailed description of the encounter of the airline vice president with the dead captain. Either you are privy to a lot more information or you are gilding the lily. The other accounts merely state that the deceased pilot sat in his chair, looked forward silently and disappeared.

I wonder if the violence of the crash into the swamp, as well as the heat of the fires, the smell of jet fuel etc is what kept gators from swarming the crash site and eating the deceased and survivors.
You would think any nearby gator wouldnt hesitate to drag some severely wounded person or corpse into the water.
Maybe the crash itself and the aftermath of it scared them off

I love this paranormal story more than most. The apparitions don’t seem to be angry or trying to harm people. It seems as though that the flight crew wanted nothing more than the safety of everyone on those aircraft’s. Not typically the type of ghost’s featured on this channel. Very refreshing.

What makes these witnesses so credible is that they knew that they could get fired for reporting a ghost sighting because the last thing that the airline industry wants is to worsen the already existing fear of flying among many passengers.

The tv-movie was quite good but unfortunately they had omitted Bob Loft entirely. The book is amazing and contains a few incidents that didn't make it into the movie, like a plane with salvaged parts from the crashed plane suddenly starting to slightly tilt repeatedly to the starbord side, in midair. A passenger sitting by a window saw a small glowing ball slowly jumping up and down on the tip of the wing causing the plane to tilt slightly. He called for an air stewardess and they both watched it. It suddenly vanished and then reappeared on the wingtip on the port side of the plane, again causing it to slightly tilt repeatedly before vanishing.

You missed, what I think to be, one of the most interesting and unexplained stories. There was a small issues in one of the Tri-Star 111 galley, something that needed an engineer to fix, so called up to the flight-deck to have the engineer to come down have a look and see about either fixing it or if it needed to wait for the ground crew. Well a few minutes latter a flight engineer comes down and takes a look, tell the Stewardess it'll be no problem and he'll have it fix pronto. Latter on the Flight Engineer comes down having now had a moment to come and take a look, which the stewardess says that one already came down and fixed the issue. Their Flight Engineer doesn't look like the one that came and fixed it, and he's not findable among the passengers.

Well, this one is. There’s still a memorial at the site in the swamp. And Bob Marquis (pronounced Marcus) was the first on the scene and helped many injured to rescue vehicles. He has since passed but he was a real person, out catching frogs that night. This is my favorite ghost report of all time. I’ve seen the movie many times and watched every video on UA-cam.
