I once seen a wii in the entertainment center of a 68 year old man, who lives out in the woods, with no wi fi or cable, But he had grandkids. That’s the epitome of the wii “success”.
So I've got a Wii sitting next to my TV. When people (my non gamer friends) see it they're like "Wow cool you have a Wii!" and I'm always like "No that's a Gamecube. It just looks like a Wii"
Michael wolfe.... I have the same issue esspecially when people ask to play it and I'm like "don't have Wii Sports". "how can you have a Wii without Wii Sports?, what about Wii Fit? can we play that?".... I feel like saying "fuck off, it's not a gimmicky piece of shit wii to me... it's a gamecube, with a proper controller and proper gamers games".
Nintendo's future seemed grim for awhile with the Wii U. It legitimately felt like they were going to turn into Sega for a bit. 3DS was their life support. Fast forward, now the Switch had surpassed the lifetime sales of the Wii. Glad to see they bounced back.
I have a lot to say about the Wii. It was the first game console I owned (I did play other consoles my family and friends owned). Being 7-8 playing Smash Bros. and Mario Kart on that little white box helped me get into gaming. Even though I moved on and the system hasn’t aged well compared to its contemporaries, I can’t deny the fact that I wouldn’t be a gamer now if the Wii didn’t exist.
For me, the Nintendo Wii pushed me into becoming the person I am today. It was the first true gaming console that I ever owned and it introduced me to the gaming community. It paved the way for me to go in deeper into gaming's past. I probably would have never picked up a PS2 slim from a thrift store when I was 11 if not for the Wii. Same goes for my Nintendo 64, Xbox 360, and even more consoles that I currently own. I may not have grown up with the older generation of consoles (when they came out) but they grew up/ they're growing up (I'm 15 at the time this is posted) with me and I am truly grateful for that.
Agree with almost everything you said. Glad you had the balls to say it, when most others would try to sugar coat everything in an effort not to ruffle any their subscriber's feathers. Kudos.
I do agree that the wii library is mostly bargain bin trash, according to some sources and that's disappointing really. most of the good games are the first party titles. btw, I've been enjoying your videos so thanks for making these.
The way i see it there are 4 different types of wii games: beneficial motion controls, optional motion controls, tolerable motion controls, and forced motion controls. Beneficial motion controls is stuff like wii sports and pikmin. Wii sports couldnt have worked without motion controls and pikmin benefits from the increased precision of ir over a second analog stick. Optional motion controls is stuff like mario kart, smash bros, and sonic colors; where the game allowed you to not use motion controls at all, and instead use a classic or gamecube controller. Tolerable motion controls is mario galaxy or new super mario bros. These games have simple motion controls that dont ruin the experience, but dont really add anything either, and really only exist because there werent any buttons left to map certain abilities to. Forced motion controls is mostly shovelware, and i dont actually find this category particularly egregious, as i doubt that imagine party babyz wouldve been a good game whether it had motion controls or not.
The irony is some of the best games on Wii use little or no motion controls, and had a great virital console service, that with GameCube support it ended up being the definitive system for Nintendo fans, something I didn't expect early into the systems life.
I actually really like the Wii library. I LOVE the Gamecube, its one of my all time top 3 favorite consoles. But I actually had more games for Wii that I loved than the Gamecube : p I love both consoles, but I think the Wii had a better library.
I know, Xenoblade was awesome. It's especially awesome on the Dolphin emulator with textures that do not look like you smeared shit across your face and tried to make out what was on your TV.
The Wii has a ton of shovel-ware, but it has some amazing exclusives like Mario Galaxy. I didn’t like the motion controls though, so I have a love/hate relationship with the console.
Well unless you have a better explanation to why others can do it just fine then all I can say that it is beyond your skill set or that motion controls are just not your thing.
Alec Wilson As I've said multiple times, I don't like motion controls. This isn't a secret. I dislike the Wiimote, Kinect, Kinect 2.0, PS Move, Eye Toy, and even the Genesis activator. I hate all of that shit because it is annoying and often doesn't work worth a damn.
Fancyslimshady I've never had an experience with motion controls, excluding perhaps voice activated Skype assuming that even counts, that I didn't think "wow, this isn't awesome. I'd much rather use a controller." To each their own I suppose.
I respect your opinion, and yes I can relate to the frustrating Wii remote controls, but for me, the Wii will always hold a special place in my heart and a lot of nostalgia. It was my first gaming console - before then I was not a gamer. Good times playing Wii Sports, Mario Kart Wii, and the like.
I was born in '97 but luckily my older sibling use to be into video games, so I grew up playing the NES, SNES, N64 & Playstation. The consoles were passed down to me & Im so happy I never got rid of them.
One of the biggest paradoxes in gaming history. The Wii had the biggest sales and soundly defeated its competitors with ease in market dominance, yet it had the crappiest library of games during that whole generation. I wonder if something like that will ever happen again.
cloudtx Yeah, it's oddly similar. It has the handful of great games that made anyone passionate about it. But then a slew of third party diarrhea. Though in Atari's case, it's because they had no quality control or anti-piracy measures. In Nintendo's case, they were thrilled people wanted to develop for their console. So they put that "Nintendo Seal of Quality" on such memorable hits like Baby and Me, My Baby's First Step, Babysitting Party, and Imagine Party Babyz. For the record, I just Googled "Wii Baby" because I knew there was one game that featured a baby. Had no idea it was a minimum of four.
AdamKoralik lol, such a shame that the Wii became 80% shovelware. Offtopic, I was just watching your 1 year later predictions video for the PS4 and I'm happy that it became your console of choice (not your favorite, I know). I'm anxious to get one eventually. I know its exclusives have been flawed, but I think Bloodborne can become that exclusive jewel the console needs.
As much as I want to like the Wii, it is hard. The motion controller....fuck that. There's some very good games but when you have to use motion controls I just can't.
I agree, while the console was popular with the masses i feel a change in controller (or even different options at launch) would have made it go down a lot better.
Passed up Super Mario Galaxy, Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword, Metroid Other M, Super Smash Bros Brawl and pretty much every exclusive title, no wonder you had a bad experience with it, you shouldve known that Nintendo's best work is their exclusives
I don't think you got my point... I have nothing against the game library, it's that idiotic controller. I own almost all the games you're referring to (I don't own Metroid Other M). With the exception of Super Smash Bros Brawl, I am unable to enjoy them because of the Wiimote.
"DOCTOR! DOCTOR!" haha Watched this video so many times and it never gets old. Why do I watch these game console retrospectives time and time again Adam? I think it's because you share so many similar view to my own. That must be it surely.
The only thing for me is that my favorite game of all time (Resident Evil 4) is best on the Wii. The point and aim was so much better than the laser sight and the auto knifing made the game a breeze to play, felt really natural. Wish I still had it.
Many of the quality motion control games can be played with your hands resting in your lap using very minor movements. I wish the Wii was better overall but I still think there's a lot of fun to be had with it, especially if you think of it as a complimentary type console and don't expect the same experiences you would find elsewhere.
Adjusting the sensitivity is key to getting it working properly. But once you have it set changing in light conditions may need adjustment done again. Would be good if there was a quick button to push daytime/night time.
You've explained your reasoning well. To me, the Wii represents the last of old kind of gaming. It may technically be a 7th gen console, but the way it operated was closer to how the 6th gen ones did. This would be the last time when players can just simply insert a disk into the slot and play without installation process, updates, and DRMs. This was the last time that Nintendo tried with their "No DLC" policy. A lot of compilations came out which happened to be the best version of a series, like Metal Slug, for example. I prefer to play Metal Slug on the Wii's Anthology, even though I have them for my Neo Geo CD, because it plays the best.
Treetops97 if you think the 360 was a pick up and play system in the same respect as the Wii then I seriously question whether you played the 360 beyond like, 2008...
It's crazy to think in retrospect that Nintendo could have just released the GameCube a year later than they did with the same specs as the Wii, a better none kiddy designed console and used motion controls as they originally intended with the Cube then they could have had the GameCube as their main console for 2 whole generations.
My mom bought a Wii when it first came out, i had the same reaction as well, "uhh...what? you dont play video games?" She and my dad played it for a solid 2 months off and on. Then it sat and collected dust for the next 7 years in their entertainment center. Now its currently in my possession, sitting in a box in my closet, and hasn't been turned on in like 6-7 years. haha
If you play with games that don't rely on motion controls it becomes a system very unique out of the 3 with it's own style. And a lot of surprising games. Even some multiplats with their own Wii styles. Also I hear some versions of Metroid prime run better on it and don't freeze up like first and second prints do on the cube sometimes if you move to fast in the tunnels while it's trying to load.
I know I'm 2 years late with this, but I agree. I personally love the Wii, and while I feel I could argue against many of the points you made, you do have a point that, regardless of what I or many others feel, Nintendo _does_ have an image problem, and the marketing for the Wii, at the very least, didn't help. You present your opinion rationally, and you gave decent reasons, so that alone is enough to warrant a like from me. I think a huge problem for many gamers was that they went in expecting truly amazing motion controls. The thing is that, when I first read about the Wii, I read that the controller was eventually going to have an upgrade to its motion controls. I also knew what was technologically feasible for Nintendo to have in a $250 console at that time. As a result, I actually went into the Wii with expectations that the Wii met. Most gamers, though, were disappointed because they expected more than what they got. I've actually debated with my brother on whether the Wii's motion controls were anything more than just a gimmick. He's made several of the same points as you did. I like it because of the larger variety of ways to play with just one controller without any peripherals, just what comes in the console. Plus, a lot of the motions were things I do anyway. Come to think of it, I actually prefer the original Wiimote over the Plus version. Maybe it's because it's less sensitive, so I'm not bothered by any inaccuracies that ruin my immersion. Regardless, I think the problem is one of expectations and image. On that, I think we'd agree.
i agree with you man, i personally bought the wii coz i loved the idea of being able to play nes , snes , n64 and various games from past game consoles i use to love, only to find out that a lot of the games that i wanted to play never got release in the Australian virtual console or at list they were never available while i had the console.
The thing that makes me love the Wii is nostalgia and pretty much nostalgia alone. Every time i went over a friends house from 2006-2012 we played Wii and it was amazing. So this Christmas I decided to buy a Wii and I have not been dissapointed I guess due to the fact I've only really bought first party games.
It's sad that you never really played the Mario Galaxy games. By far the best in the franchise. I didn't play the games for a longtime because I thought that I would hate the controls. I was completely wrong. Though the controls are unconventional, it didn't take me long to get over it and really enjoy the game. The controls really work excellent for it. It even surprised me alot. I was only disappointed that I didn't play this game sooner.
+AdamKoralik its actually not that bad for the Galaxy games. Very easy the game more than makes up for it. I was of the same mind until I borrowed the game and was just blown away by it.
+AdamKoralik I totally agree. I just never got around to play it. I even tried using the dolphin Emulator, so I could use a regular controller. But playing on pc just isn't the same. The only wii games I enjoy are the ones that support either the classic controller, or the GC one.
Yeah I agree. When I first saw Galaxy I was blown away and thought to myself how far it's come since Mario 64. Without playing it I basically thought it's virtually the same thing. It's amazing how Nintendo take something like Mario and manage to keep it fresh after all this time.
I'm personally not such a big fan of the Wii either. However, I still think this video was long, drawn-out, and simply did not do a great job at all of getting your point across. Your beef with the Wii controller seems more of a personal issue if anything. Seriously is "I don't want to hold two things at once" the best you can come up with"? Then again the N64 gets similar complaints.
AdamKoralik How was I supposed to know? And I'm not saying I disagree, I'm saying I thought the video was horrible and failed to convey your thoughts on the matter very well at all.
LinkMarioSamus Listed video length, like to dislike ratio, reputation, previous works. These are ways to discern whether or not you think a video will be relevant to you. Sorry you didn't like it. Have a good one.
AdamKoralik I've never seen a video of yours, and for the record I'm not a huge fan of the Wii either. Though I love me some Mario Galaxy, but I haven't played either of them in ages.
Your videos are good. I've watched a whole bunch of them and though i'm not a passionate gamer, or expert on gaming history i know enough to say that these videos are pretty damn good.
You played red steel and said it sucked and you're right it did suck however red steel 2 was awesome it was a huge improvement from the original it had very responsive and accurate control but unfortunately the original was so bad people never tried the second and most people missed out.
The Wii captured the zeitgeist, annihilated the competition and has a great many 'classic' games which are genuinely worthy of that term. I respectably disagree with your review but admit that it is only those who understand games and are prepared to dig a little deeper and see past the veneer (shovelware and gimmick games) who would have got the most from Wii!
What I LOVE about the Wii, is the softmod and homebrew community. I love the fact I can play any nes, snes, and genesis game right on my Wii!! And Wii games like new super mario bros, super mario galaxy 1 & 2, punchout...and games like newER super mario bros (which can only be played on a modded console) are awesome!! and you cannot find 'em on the ps3 & 360. I could care less about the motion control games (like Wii sports).....why do you care about those types of games??
I started with the SNES and Genesis then had both an N64 and PS1 after that I got the dreamcast, ps2 and gamecube which was my last nintendo console then I decided to go with the xbox 360 which is my current console even to this day I was never a fan of the whole motion control gimmick and the more casual focused gaming
I have been working as a game developer for a long time. I coded two 'indie' games for the Wii. When I was trying out the dev kit, I wrote a small test app that visualized sensor input. Even when the Wii Mote was simply laying on the table, we got 'random' signals every time a car passed in front of the office. As we quickly realized, it was suitable as a device for detecting earth quakes or counting cars, but it was hard to tell weather a small signal was a soft movement or just some "interference". Unless you pointed at the screen and used the sensor bar, it was not possible to detect direction in relation to the screen. That's why you still have to set direction 'by hand' in Wii Sports Golf. As you pointed out, your arms can easily generate accerlerations way beyond what the sensors can measure. Thats why you can beat Wii sports Tennis without moving much at all. Every child will find out quickly. We had lots of ideas what to do with motion. But we had to forget about many of these because of sensor limitations.
***** Homebrew Wii is probably one of the best consoles out there. You can pretty much put every game from every company from every generation onto it and work with it.
Yup, a Hombrew Wii is so amazing, specially for the classics. My friends and I tend to play a lot of Project M but even more Mario Party 2, and countless other games.
Great Wii games 2006-'11: -Wii Sports Resort -Arc Rise Fantasia -Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn -Super Smash Bros Brawl -Super Mario Galaxy -Super Mario Galaxy 2 -Metroid Prime 3 -Punchout!! -Battalion Wars 2 -Okami -De Blob -De Blob 2 -Dokapon Kingdom -Muramasa: The Demon Blade -NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams -Boy and his Blob -Little King's Story -Spectrobes -Red Steel 2 -Super Mario Strikers Charged -Donkey Kong Country Returns -Zelda Twilight Princess -Zelda Skyward Sword -Metroid Other M -No More Heroes -Monster Hunter Tri -Xenoblade Chronicles -Resident Evil 4 -Sonic Colours -Endless Ocean -Rune Factory Frontier -Epic Mickey -Jett Rocket -The Last Story -Pandora's Tower -Fatal Frame -Silent Hill: Shattered Memories -Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars -Mushroom Men -Opoona -Sin and Punishment: Star Successor -Kirby's Return to Dreamland -Rhythm Heaven Fever -Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love -Madworld -Trauma Team -Warioware: Smooth Moves -Zack and Wiki: Quest for Barbaros Treasure Much better library than the PS3 in the same tune frame, tbh.
Hey man, really enjoying your console retrospectives. Your knowledge and passion for the industry and the games is easy to see. Entertaining, informative and thoughtful views, thanks!
Adam Koralik when he says Wii is bad now: *People born 2000-2006 get super angry* Me when I say Switch is bad in future: *People born 2011-2017 get super angry*
Believe it or not, that just sounds like a bad sensor bar or IR interference. Nintendo's first party sensor bars have really bad range, there's even still better 3rd party ones online. Try making sure that you have no direct sunlight in the room you're playing in (close open blinds, etc). Even Christmas tree lights cause IR interference sometimes!
I haven't played a game to date with as solid controls as metroid prime corruption the Wii controller is fantastic when done right. But in the wrong hands its an abomination. And Wii sports is still single handedly the best game to show how motion controls can be amazing
I love the Wii. Possibly my favorite console of all-time; and I have been playing since the Famicom days. It was the perfect compliment to my gaming PC . And the motion controls didn't bother me at all. It had amazing exclusives, and it was just a fun console to play with friends and families.
I totally agree with your opinion. Another problem with the Wii is the ammount of shovelware it contains. I got excited when the Wii U was launched (before the other 8th generation consoles) and it got very good games announced (Batman Arkham Origins, Bayonetta 2, to name a few), but then the other consoles launched and I tought: Ok, so that's another Wii. :(
Hold a wii controller sideways and its basically a wireless nes controller. There should've been a pro controller option in all games for people who don't want to use motion controls.
Watched this video again and it's still a dumb take. If you're still flailing around with the WiiMote then you haven't really gotten the controls. Like you mentored, all it takes is a flick of the wrist, not a full swing. So as a result, most games I basically just played normally as it's essentially a controller that is split in half. There are some games that require aiming like Metroid Other M, but for the most part, most games don't use full gesture controls.
AdamKoralik It's not bad when its flipped on its side and used that way. I agree when it has to be used with the nunchuk it's just stupid. Thank god for Gamecube controller support, that controller was great.
***** You're right, I'm sure every single Wii I've ever played was just set up wrong. It couldn't be that waving a wand around is fundamentally stupid and unreliable.
salozmen29 but in nsmbwii you still had to shake the controller up which was in acrruate and would not register at times and cause you to...die...in some cases...
I found the Wii to be the weakest of that generation. The games that were first party were often good but the third party support and shovelware brought it library lower then the 360 and Ps3. Wii being able to play Gamecube was cool and the virtual console was a nice idea but again Ps3 and 360 have a bunch of retro games also along with better graphics in there games. I thought the Wii was not bad but it felt like a step back from the previous Nintendo platforms like the nes Snes and N64 and Gamecube too.
I agree the controller was little more than a gimmick that never did what it was supposed to do, but when I look at this gen as a whole, there are maybe three games on the other platforms I wasn't able to put down (Fallout 3, Skyrim, and Fable 2), whereas on the Wii I've been addicted to: Skyward Sword, DK Country Returns, Arc Rise Phantasia, The Last Story, Xenoblade Chronicles, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, and Super Paper Mario.
The Nintendo Wii, probably the most useful video games console ever made. When I spent nearly 6 months in hospital during 2012. The Nintendo Wii was used to help rehabilitate me and get my manual dexterity back. I never even owned a Nintendo Wii myself I owned Xbox 360 Elite at that time. I have used and owned many different video games consoles and handhelds in my 40 plus years as a video gamer. And without a doubt the Nintendo Wii was definitely the most useful video games console I have ever used and probably ever will use. The Nintendo Wii will always be more than just a video games console to me. I cannot say that about any other video games machine. All other video games consoles are just that, the Nintendo Wii was beyond just a video games machine. The Nintendo Wii was a truly special product.
I see some of your points, but come on. Mario Galaxy was the shit! Motion controls weren't so bad in that game. All you did was shake the controller a bit at times.
AdamKoralik You could of just have a defected controller. My controller works fine. With all those games, you did not once get the later ones that were cool? Like New Super Mario Brothers or Metroid The other M? I found those two to be really cool. New Mario Brothers is like a return to the fun and basics while Metroid did the same thing, but with a good use of the motion controller.
***** Oh yeah th cntroller is one of the best ever. Just buy one it's cheap and the games are still easy to find. You can also buy a component cable and play some games like FZERO GX in 16/9, which is REALLY impressive (this game aged well).
Ah, I disagree with everything in this video : p I had sooo many games I loved for the Wii- Arc Rise Fantasia, Pandoras Tower, The Last Story, Xenoblade Chronicles, Rune Factory Frontier, Rune Factory Tides of Destiny, Shiren the Wanderer, Harvest Moon Tree of Tranquility, Harvest Moon Animal Parade, Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn, Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, Fragile Dreams Farewell Ruins of the Moon, Sakura Wars So Long My Love, Little Kings Story, and Okami. I absolutely adored all these games : p And the Wiimote never bothered me with them like ever : p I feel like this is throwing a big fit over something small : p
I did mention that I never thought it was a problem, though : p The majority of those games dont use motion control, and even the ones that do only use them on occasion, youre certainly not forced to use it the entire game : p I mean it might not feel comfortable in your hand, but I dont think that qualifies as a game breaker : p Also, you can get the classic controller for the console : p Its definitely a console you have to dig to find good games with, but the games definitely make it an awesome system.
+Moogi Beans I see and agree with both sides... I agree the original Wiimote was just Red Steel awful. They had so many early release games that were pretty much unplayable. Then you finally play a first party game and they show you not just how the Wiimote can work and work well but that the 480P isn't as limiting as you might think to having a good looking game. Metroid Prime 3? Oh heck yeah. But that stigma of the horrid original controller combined with so many of those first phase games made so many people dismiss the Wii and miss out on a lot of later released games. Two things out the gate would have made the Wii better: Wii Motion Plus from the start and the Gamecube controller being compatible across the board. Even better would have been a slightly improved Gamecube controller / Wavebird update. But as Adam says, the focus was to real in the casuals (like they were ever going to be real long term money) and shift away from the more hard corp gaming community. Now they are getting into cell/mobile gaming, hand helds have been their bread and butter for a while now, and the NX is looking earily like a beefed up WiiU (motion sensor still included... :P ) and I'm worried they may be about to bould their final console and just become hand held and mobile only....! I guess at least they aren't going full on Sega on us but it wouldn't shock me to someday soon see Mario on a PS or Xbox label soon just like Sonic.
+Robert Barker I can see how it turned away many gamers when it was first released, I even remember having some concerns and doubts when it was being introduced : p But I would definitely say that it was a great console and totally underrated, and many of the games I played for the Wii didnt even have motion control anyway : p (I actually do openly hate motion control : p)
I think I was much like Adam at first being turned away by the bad controls and horrible games. And my Wii did collect dust for a while. And to my regret I only recently found Muramasa that had completely been missed. And yet Metroid Prime 3's motion controls were perfect so I didn't mind them. I guess I just don't get why so many programmers were willing to release complete garbage and why Nintendo was still willing to put the official seal on them despite them being games that they had to at some level know were just awful. I will keep dragging Red Steel's name through the mud. Who the heck played that and said, yep, this title is done... ??? And yet a silly simple overhead shooter like Centipede had such tight player controls. It just makes no sense. I will add another Wii/WiiU complaint. Virtual Console titles... Hackers long ago figured out homebrew stuff and you can play thousands of emulated games on the Wii. And yet Nintendo can only get this small meager collection to play. The Mother/Earthbound games have been vastly over priced for years now for originals and they only recently became available??? Every Nintendo first party retro game should be available to download. And this crap of charging me again even a small amount to put a game I've already bought on Wii to add to WiiU??? WTF, Nintendo... WTF. But then personally I also think they could make a bunch of money on retro re-release hardcopy on many of these games. I mean how many times has Final Fantasy 1 - 6 been redone and people keep buying them? Again, Nintendo is missing out on gamer sales.
Since you seem to like the WiiU would you say it's worth buying a Preowned one? Is it much better then the Wii as far as power and specs? As far as running Emulators is it any better then the Wii? Will it run better emulators that support more systems like a good smoothly highly compatible Saturn emulator or maybe even a 32X emulator? Does it have more System Memory for games to run in? For instance, either the NEOGEO or Capcom emulator will not run games that are a certain size or larger because of I guess the low system memory.
A modded one, yeah. There was a time I would have said the Wii U was amazing, and I still like it, but the sad truth is most of its best titles are on the Switch now.
I remember watching this video years ago and being very triggered by it and decided not to comment. My experience with the Wii could not be more opposite. So after about 8 years Ive decided to comment (LOL). Its always weird to me when I hear people's issues with the controller. It is one of the most comfortable controllers for me ever. And there is a TON of core titles on the console that you might have missed. I have around 150 games in my Wii collection and maybe 6% of it would be considered casual shovelware. This was a long time ago so I hope you came around on it.
I've got a funny feeling the wii might be more fondly remembered years down the line. Yes there is a ALOT of shovelware and the wii definitely had a lot of technical shortcomings, but it has the best platform games of that generation like mario galaxy, kirby return to dreamland etc. For fighting games I prefer the wii's Tatsunoko vs Capcom over the far more popular marvel vs capcom 3 (on 360/ps3). I'm not really a racing fan but mario kart was always a laugh. Pikmin just feels right on the wiimote. One thing I'm quite surprised by was the relatively few rail/lightgun games on the system. I would have loved to have had a port of time crisis and point blank. Backwards compatibility with the gamecube is also a huge boon, worth it just to play IMO the best version of soul calibar.
Nintendo should have focused on supporting & motivating developers to make the greatest next-gen games to make the most incredible library! That's why the SNES, PS2 and XBox 360 did so well! That's the MOST important thing about a console. The wii only had 40 good playable games. I just got my wii in 2017, and I'm enjoying the fuck out of it's top 30 games! But XBox 360 which is the greatest console in history came out in 2005, the wii came out in 2006 with really poor multiplayer functionality during the spawn of the online multiplayer age. So if u think about it, the wii came out one year AFTER the amazing multiplayer XBox360, they had a headstart to do any improvements and still the wii sucked in that regard! Its a 'catch 22', Nintendo tried to raise the bar and do something new, fresh and innovative for the wii, and I'm very glad they did, they just needed a ton more & better games, a xbox360-like controller retail option for gamers that prefer that type of handheld, and hardcore & delightful online multiplayer functionality. But I'm really enjoying the exp. I'm having with it for what good games it does have. I'm loving the new & original handheld experience, only because I know its a one-time console thing, something we wont see again for a long time, prob. until VR really takes off. It reminds me of a life lesson I learned, when I was young I only really listened to R&B and Hip-hop, and refused to even sample the emerging grunge and alternative genres, but the golden age of those genres are long & gone after only maybe a 5 year run. Wasn't till later today when I started collecting music & sampling what others call amazing albums from the past did I start to realize how many amazing masterpieces in the grunge & alternative genres I missed out on while growing up. Even hip-hop & rnb isn't as popular today, which tells me something of a life lesson: Everything has it's era, and it will only last a short time, so enjoy it while its here! And for the wii controls, I'm enjoying it because I know its an original console experience that we wont see anything like it again for many many years.
I feel your pain regarding the huge potential the Wiimote had. But I do have to say that some games ended up using it in the right ways, and that's when it actually kinda delivered. It was a positive surprise seeing how well the controls were implemented in a few of those. Goldeneye comes to mind. Even Skyward Sword's use of the Wiimote was in some respects really refreshing and fun.
I'm thinking I'm the only one who doesn't have any problems with the wii controller. I've never noticed the motion control to be off, I actually like the wii quite a bit
Wow, it's not THAT bad mate! Ever played Mario Galaxy, Skyward Sword, Smash Bros. Brawl, Mario Kart, Twilight Forest, DK Country Returns, Rhythm Heaven Fever, PokéPark, Xenoblade Chronicles, Metroid Prime 3, or New Super Mario Bros.? You said some of these became bad because of the controller, but it's not bad! Some of them don't even use the motion controls, like Smash, so WHAT THE FUUUUUUUCK??? It's a great console!
***** Yes, it is that bad. It's not the games I take issue with. It's the horrendous controller that, as far as I'm concerned, makes the games unplayable. Some times literally, generally figuratively. Personally, I can't enjoy a game when I'm expected to wave a magic wand around.
I am a Nintendo fan, I own every single major game console they've put out from the Nes to the Wii U. I have absolutely no problem saying that the original Wii was Nintendo's worst console. It's not because of the motion controls, it's not because it was underpowered, it was because of all the shitty games that came out. Don't get me wrong, the Wii has its fair share of good games. But there's so much shovel ware and so many terrible games that flooded it. When I go to a game store, I really have to dig through the crap in order to find a good Wii game. Every console is going to have bad games, but I feel like Wii was struck worse with them more than any other major game console.
Fun fact: The only time Nintendo had the strongest console in a generation was the SNES era. The N64 came out much after the Sega Saturn and play station to really count but I guess you can. The game cube was underpowered because of the Xbox, the WiiU is underpowered compared to all of the other next gen consoles (it's very weak for a next gen console) You really have no right to say the Wii was underpowered because all other Nintendo consoles always were. Now about the shovelware, I never saw in the supermarket where I get my games so I don't understand your pain with that one.
+Aleksa Bogdanović (Xenoks) N64 wasn't underpowered. The GameCube is more powerful than the PS2. It's only since the Wii that Nintendo has made weak consoles.
SnortsOfHappiness NES was the weakest in the generation SNES wasn't the weakest N64 came out years after PS1 and the Saturn, so of course it's more powerful. NGC was weaker than Xbox, which came out merely a year after it Wii was the weakest in the generation WiiU was the weakest in the generation I'm a big nintendo fan but I don't lie to myself like you do.
Aleksa Bogdanović Lol, I am in agreement with you on everything you said in your last comment, when did say otherwise? You just made it sound like Nintendo never tried to make powerful hardware, when in fact they did, up until the Wii. Sure, the N64 went with cartridges and the GameCube had mini-discs (bad decisions in hindsight), but the other specs were in the same league as the competition, unlike the Wii and Wii U. The Wii-line is the exception.
The Wii was an okay console, I mean it's not good but it's certainly not a bad console, it had some of my favorite games of all time like the metroid prime trilogy pack and Super Mario Galaxy, it also had some great 3rd party games that may or may not have used the motion controls in a great way like Red Steel 2 (that one had great motion controls) and no more heroes, the call of duty ports on it weren't half bad and it had some good sonic/sega games as well
No, it was terrible. Just because a handful of the games were great, it doesn't mean the machine itself is anything to be respected. If anything, you should be angry that so many of those other wise great titles are crippled by the fact that they're forced to use those horrendous controls.
I can see why you dislike the system so much... But really that handfull of games is enough for me to make the wii a console worth owning. And come on you can't say the controls on red steel 2 are bad, they are spot on! And I'm not angry man :p I respect your opinion towards the wii but I'm just trying to have an interesting discussion
Charles Crow Well might want to keep that in mind, when they bring the New Legend of Zelda on WiiU. It might have motion controls just like previous titles.
I have a normal wii and the only games I play are mario kart and smash because of the controller and I'm thinking about getting either a wii u or a new 3ds xl what one should I get? I don't need 3rd party support because I have an Xbox 360 and I'm getting the Xbox one soon so I have it covered. Can you please help me?
If galaxy was awful because of the controller, then there is something wrong with you. Everyone I know has no issue with it. If it really bothers you that much, use Dolphin with One controller. The Wii has great games and it saddens me that the controller ruins it to you, because it is a good controller.
Sam Gates But it ruins the whole system for you? It works and is comfortable enough. It really doesn't bother me, or anyone else I know. Like I said, use the Dolphin emulator if it really bothers you, but I don't get it.
I think you're being very harsh on the Wii for a number of reasons. Nintendo had way more third party support for the system than the GameCube had, so much so that there was more initial 3rd party support for the Wii U at launch than the original Wii. I think you forget that e3 during the GameCube era was nothing but Nintendo titles (the likes of Akklaim, Rockstar, Namco & Konami more or less only made games for the PS2 & Xbox). The Wii's also not just for casual gamers at all. It has by far the best version of Resident Evil 4 (including the control scheme), Mario Galaxy is phenomenal, for the first time we had a Nintendo Virtual Console & online Mario Kart, it was backwards compatible with the GameCube & most games that weren't suited to the remote were compatible with 'conventual' controllers (I.e. Smash bros, Mario kart etc). Of course there was a lot of crap (like any system which is the most popular). That doesn't define it though
To be honest it's really hard for me to hate the Wii - it was one of the first consoles I got that was really my "own" and I would be lying if I said I didn't love it back then and even now. Despite all the shovelware there are some games that I still really enjoy - including Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, Sonic Colors, DKC Returns, Super Smash Bros Brawl, Mario Kart Wii and NSMB Wii - not to mention the VC games I got on it - and so on. And honestly it did play a big part in getting me into collecting consoles and games, and obviously I do have a lot of nostalgia with playing with my family. That said, I do understand and respect your opinion, even if I don't personally agree with a lot of it.
Watching senior citizens, 80 and 90 years old, playing around with the Wii, once again enjoying activities such as bowling and tennis that their bodies would no longer allow them to do otherwise, gave them and me great satisfaction and joy. The WII is responsible for bring back retro games and side-scrollers. You should play games that took advantage of the motion controls.
Nintendo's biggest problem is that it focuses too much on gimmicks and fads. The Wii, the 3DS, and the Wii U, all the same. Nintendo needs to go back to making actual game systems.
The only good thing the Wii did was make me not ever want to buy a nintendo product ever again. now I DID buy more because I'm a dumbass I guess, I enjoyed the original DS games. But now... The thought of spending any more money on a game console, nintendo specifically makes me want to vomit. I'm actually without any hyperbole, physically fucking sickened thinking about the money i spent on this because I was an idiot 16 year old, or whatever I was. All the money is going into my gaming PC now. With Sony pretty much going under, Xbox not really wanting to do anything smart, and Nintendo COMPLETELY pooping the bed as of late, what's even the point anymore? I mean if you get enjoyment out of what they're calling console gaming these days good for you I guess, but I've completely checked out.
Mostly I play games on PC, on Wii mostly i play more interactive games like Just Dance and guitar hero. But how can you say that it's one of worst consoles while liking wii u very much ? how much differ mario kart, mario games between them ? I prefer only super mario bros, and think of else as a waste of time... Most sad part about Wii is it had not much serious games, like driving games or fighting games... :(
AdamKoralik my favorite game on the Wii was new super mario bros (followed by punchout)...I played the Wii U version, and it's pretty much the same game (except in 1080p)....well, i can play new super mario bros Wii on my pc emulator (dolphin 4.0) and get the same exact experience that the Wii U version gives me....I dunno why the Wii U is so great...I really don't.
pcjoeyd11 because it has completely new titles like, wonderful 101, bayonetta 2 and hyrule warriors... And a store full of indie games. And its a console not an emulator.
just to put it in perspective, you can play games and watch blu rays in 3d on the ps3 which came out before the wii. even the wii u is weaker than the ps3 isnt it? nintendo reminds me of capcom in a lot of ways. they both used to be awesome, and they still could be but its almost like they intentionally choose not too. it doesnt make any sense
+Super Dummy ... the Wii U hardware is more powerful than the Ps3 and 360 ,in everything (cpu ,gpu ,ram/vram ,etc.) ;don't know is too easy for programmers to work with it ,tough ... but you can notice than the console with more games that run in 1080p 60 fps ,is the Wii U (surpass the Ps4 and the Xbone in this moment!)
Alright Adam, there are many things wrong. First, your phrasing is unnecessarily inflammatory. You are so frustrated that you fail to be objective. You are painting Nintendo as a malicious agent, which of course it's not the case. You keep calling the Wiimote a "piece of shit", as if there's something inherently wrong with the design or the sensors, when the majority of consumers report the Wiimote functioning as intended, in the same games you played. Which can either mean you misplaced the sensor bar, you had interference with the Bluetooth, or you did something to mess it up. Who knows? you didn't describe how you set your Wii up. That's another thing, you didn't describe trying to reach customer support, you didn't consult other Wii owners if they were having similar issues, you just assumed it was broken beyond repair and abandoned it. Most of your complaints are not specific, you just keep saying that "the Wii motion plus wasn't better" in what way? If your sensor bar is still not set up correctly of course it isn't going to work. And I know how you are going to trying to defend yourself which is another thing wrong with the whole premise of this video. You aren't simply "stating your opinion", you are relating your experiences as they happened, and you reported malfunctioning as a matter of fact. If other users are not reporting the same malfunctioning you are experiencing, the more likely explanation is that something in your setup is messing it up. To this day you have not addressed anyone trying to troubleshoot your technical issues, which only paints you as a bad faith agent. i.e., you are not open to the input of others if they disagree with your "The Wii is a malfunctioning piece of shit". So no, spreading misinformation about anything is not excusable with "It's my opinion". You keep saying that people agree with you, yet you cite no people. There's no mention of the Virtual Console, Wiiware titles or Miiverse. It's not like you didn't like those features or didn't try them, it's that you pretended they didn't exist. Your failure to try the pro controller is a piss poor excuse, pretty much every game for the Wii supports that because they were pretty much designed for that controller and the motion controls were an afterthought that they were obligated to include. Your assessment of this device is wholly uncharacteristic of you, because of course it's quite probable that your Wii is malfunctioning through no fault of your own. Does that mean that a blanket condemnation of the device is merited? I let you answer that for yourself. I dare you to come out now and tell me that you stand by these flawed assessments. All you will say is "If you like the Wii I don't care". It's not about if I or anybody else likes the Wii, it's about your integrity as a content creator.
so many people miss your point. "b-but most games just barely use the motion controls!!" yea, but if i have to use them for 5 seconds every 20 minutes that's still 5sec too many. and when you have no motion control and you lay with your arms by your sides with the wire over you, there eventually is a surreal moment where you realise you're laying very still staring at a screen and you start to wonder if that's how a coma feels. that moment is when i realised i fuckin hated the wii and that controller is pure trash.
In one of your videos from what i think was the forth generation of consoles you made a shoutout to the guy why inspired you to start make youtube videos, what is his youtube-channel name? Forgot and cant find the right video u mentioned him in..
I liked Wii Sports and Wii Play as a kid. Aside from that, most of the games that were played on the Wii were the GameCube games we already had (GC’s laser died) or Wii games that didn’t use the motion controls.
Okay, I should start this off by saying that I really like Adam and his videos and he's usually top-notch IMO, but there are some just demonstrable problems here. None of twhat's to follow is to deny that the Wii didn't have numerous problems, because it did. Apologize for the upcoming wall of text. Adam, your main complaint regarding the Wii seems to be that it has a shit controller (for more traditional games) with the Wii Remote/Nunchuck and that few of the notable games/hidden gems on the console supported the consoles other controller types, yes? Assuming that's a good approximation of that particular complaint (correct me if I'm wrong, you seem to say this), there's one massive problem with that: It's just plain false. Oh sure, you can find the *occasional* purchase-worthy Wii game that only supports the Wii Remote/Wii Remote and Nunchuck (as you note, MadWorld doesn't), but the majority of the best Wii games do support at least 1 other controller setup. Now, it is a valid complaint, I think, that Nintendo (and it's 2nd Party devs) weren't consistent in supporting all controller setups that their games were reasonably been expected to support. Just going from the Wii games I own (I'm currently collecting/searching for what I consider to be the best Wii games), their traditional controller supports are as follows: -SSB Brawl [All Wii controllers] -MK Wii [All Wii controllers] -Sonic Colors [Classic & GCN] -A Boy and His Blob [Classic] -Arc Rise Fantasia [Classic & GCN] (This one is perhaps a 3rd-tier game, but still) -Baroque [Classic] -Rune Factory Frontier [Classic] -Sin and Punishment: Star Successor [Classic and GCN] -Tales of Graces [Classic] -TMNT: Smash-Up [Classic and GCN] (It's decent) -Xenoblade Chronicles [Classic] -Blast Works B,T,D [Classic] -Dokapon Kingdom [Classic and GCN] -Klonoa [Classic & GCN] -The Last Story [Classic] -Monster Hunter Tri [Classic] -Muramasa: The Demon Blade [Classic & GCN] -The Munchables [Classic] -Nights: Journey of Dreams [Classic] -No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle [Classic] -Opoona [Classic] -Pandora's Tower [Classic] -Phantom Brave: We Meet Again [Classic & GCN] -Rayman Origins [Classic] -RE4: Wii [Classic and GCN] -Zangeki no Reginleiv [Classic & GCN] -Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn [Classic & GCN] -Endless Ocean 2 [Classic] I think I've made my point. The above are the majority of good to great to fantastic Wii games I own, which also have traditional control options. Of course, a few games noteworthy games that come to mind which don't offer other options: -LoZ: Twilight Princess -LoZ: Skyward Sword -Super Mario Galaxy/2 -NSMB. Wii -Metroid Prime 3/Trilogy (surprising) -Kirby's Return to Dreamland -DKC Returns -No More Heroes -MadWorld -Punchout Now, that does suck and for all but maybe 2 of those, there should definitely have been alternative controller options (really, it's not that hard) but Adam, you seem to be burning a console mainly with a complaint that is literally applicable to a handful of worthy games, and that just ain't right. :(
You should play No More Heroes and Skyward Sword (motion controls never fuck up) and get a classic controller and play some games that use that, especially Xenoblade Chronicles. You don't even need to hook the Wii up to the TV, just connect the sensor bar to the Wii U and play the games on that.
The is not even near the worst console ever made man. There are 256 worthwhile games to own on the Wii. The companies who got the motion controls correct made the console awesome. You have one of them on your video. MadWorld is one of the coolest games ever. Too kill guys by moving the controller is freaking amazing and hardcore. Nintendo did mess up in one area on the Wii. Allowing so many crappy party games to be released. Plus I've never had my cursor go all "ape shit" like you said. It took time to get the controls right just like every new control scheme. The Wii was also more powerful than the GameCube and Xbox Classic, so how was it weaker. You need to try it again man. Get games like Goldeneye 007, Conduit 2, Koropina: Marble Saga, No More Hero's 1&2, Mario Galaxy 1&2, New Super Mario Brothers Wii, Punch Out, Power Punch, and Wario Land Shake It. These are just a very few of the 256 games that rocked hard on the Wii. Your whole perspective is based on launch titles, and dude launch titles are never good on any console. I have too say the Wii is my favorite console of all damn time, and Reggie has nothing to do with it Iwata is dude.
Oy.... You missed the point entirely. It's not the games that bother me. It's the controller. What kills me is I know how many amazing games there are on the console, and yet I can't enjoy them because of that very same stupid controller. That flaw forces me to put it so...so very low on the list. As for Reggie, I openly admitted I was speculating.
AdamKoralik Ok I get that so many people hate the controller, but when done correctly like I said the controller is second to none, even without the Motion Plus. Games like No More Hero's benefited from the controller, and so did Super Mario Galaxy 1&2. Many games did, you have to find the ones that weren't put together by lazy developers. Too me the controller is my favorite controller ever to use, and I've been gaming just as long as you have. Heck my first console was the Magnavox Odyssey 2. That has too say a lot there. The Wiimote when used right in games is the best thing to happen too gaming.
fireheartis1 The Wiimote has its uses and benefits for sure, but I'm right down the middle with it. It has some real awesome games like Smash Bros, Metroid Prime 3, Galaxy 1/2, Donkey Kong, etc etc. The problem is, it has alot of games I dont care for, alot of games don't do motion controls very well. And some of my favorite games on the Wii, barely even use motion control (Smash Bros, New Mario Bros Wii, Galaxy. They may use motion alittle bit, but in reality, very very little.) Zelda Skyward Sword uses it alot, and very well. I wish more games were like that.
Can you please tell me how there are 256 games on the system which are sooo great (all retail I hope) ? I have 60 games for it which are awesome - amazing. So I am missing 194 games which are great too? I have these games: vgcollect.com/Phantron/wiieu/ vgcollect.com/Phantron/wii
I once seen a wii in the entertainment center of a 68 year old man, who lives out in the woods, with no wi fi or cable, But he had grandkids. That’s the epitome of the wii “success”.
He has power?
Wii is the best console ever to spend hours playing . . . gamecube games.
Because it's basically a GameCube with widescreen support.
@@Scsigs Playing a Gamecube title which was designed for 480i/480p in widescreen is really not a good look. It's an awful way to play.
I have a TV that I can force into 4:3. So I can play GameCube games at 480p in 4:3.
@@Sonikks why is it so bad
@@Sonikks I mean, it displays in whatever aspect ratio the games are natively in, so that's not too bad.
So I've got a Wii sitting next to my TV. When people (my non gamer friends) see it they're like "Wow cool you have a Wii!" and I'm always like "No that's a Gamecube. It just looks like a Wii"
I had wii sports that's it. I grew up with GameCubes (many) probably 8. I had 44 gc games my wii was a reliable gc. (In like 2008)
Michael wolfe....
If Nintendo simply allowed every big game to work with the classic controller
Cite me games that don't support the pro-controller please.

Nintendo's future seemed grim for awhile with the Wii U. It legitimately felt like they were going to turn into Sega for a bit. 3DS was their life support. Fast forward, now the Switch had surpassed the lifetime sales of the Wii. Glad to see they bounced back.
They are still a shitty evil corporation for going behind their fans, aggressively shutting down emulation and not supporting their legacy software
Never underestimate Nintendo!
One Good thing about the Wiimote is you can use it to play lightgun style games like House of the Dead:Overkill on a modern TV.
And Resident Evil 4 is apparently really good with the wiimote.
Kudos.
Soft modding the wii actually made the console much better.
+HadoukenDude That's because modders gave you that. What Nintendo gave you wasn't interesting.
I do agree that the wii library is mostly bargain bin trash, according to some sources and that's disappointing really. most of the good games are the first party titles. btw, I've been enjoying your videos so thanks for making these.
Same here. Soft-modded mine and it suddenly became a much better console with the addition of a 500GB external hard drive
...and apparently u can use the ds as a wii controller
Couldn't agree more. The Emulators make the Wii a great console.
I love the Wii. I still use it in 2021!
Same i still use mine in 2023
Agree i use it too but its not for the gamers.
The irony is some of the best games on Wii use little or no motion controls, and had a great virital console service, that with GameCube support it ended up being the definitive system for Nintendo fans, something I didn't expect early into the systems life.
I agree man
I hacked my wii best discussion I ever made
I actually really like the Wii library. I LOVE the Gamecube, its one of my all time top 3 favorite consoles. But I actually had more games for Wii that I loved than the Gamecube : p I love both consoles, but I think the Wii had a better library.
+The Raph The virtual console selection was still a lot better than what the Wii U's got on the eShop imo
That was the issue all the shovelware and forced motion controls
The gamecube is an amazing system, who cares about the colour? It had great games...
true.
I, totally agree with that. My favirote, being luigis mansion
C Ziggy consumers hate purple
It came in black and silver as well
the games themselves dont actually make a console good/bad
Metroid Prime Trilogy was amazing. Motion control for that was pretty good.
Am i the only one who didnt have motion control problems with their Wii??
Alec Wilson This is just silly, to suggest waving a magic wand around is beyond my skill set is just absurd.
AdamKoralik You lose me at the "Doesn't work" part? Lol I guess I have always been lucky with motion controls?
Fancyslimshady I've never had an experience with motion controls, excluding perhaps voice activated Skype assuming that even counts, that I didn't think "wow, this isn't awesome. I'd much rather use a controller."
To each their own I suppose.
Same thing happened with the Atari 2600.
Ohh, I didn't know that.
cloudtx Yeah, it's oddly similar.
AdamKoralik
lol, such a shame that the Wii became 80% shovelware.
Yes, there was tons of shovelware, but we have UA-cam now and online game reviews to help you steer clear of those
As much as I want to like the Wii, it is hard.
AdamKoralik ive never had a problem with the wii remote, 5 years of owning my wii and i still prefer it over the competition
AdamKoralik ive never had a problem with the wii remote, 5 years of owning my wii and i still prefer it over the competition
ThatOneZeldaGuy I'm glad you liked it, I'm just saying, I hated it. Simple as that.
AdamKoralik its just a shame you missed out on some of the greatest titles of last generation
My favorite Wii game is Mario kart Wii because I love all the ultra shortcuts there are.
"DOCTOR! DOCTOR!" haha
Watched this video so many times and it never gets old.
Yeah, I think you mentioned the best advantage of motion gaming. (Gyro-aiming which is pretty similar has been enjoyed and used in many games).
Many of the quality motion control games can be played with your hands resting in your lap using very minor movements. I wish the Wii was better overall but I still think there's a lot of fun to be had with it, especially if you think of it as a complimentary type console and don't expect the same experiences you would find elsewhere.
I never had that problem with my Wii. I had a blast with it.
+Nicholas Rivera yes me too it was a great console
***** But it still needs updates for everything
The setup process on the Wii U is extradonery
The Xbox 360 was a pick-up and play console as well. The PS3 was a bloated PoS, tho.
Also I hear some versions of Metroid prime run better on it and don't freeze up like first and second prints do on the cube sometimes if you move to fast in the tunnels while it's trying to load.
good lord did you just admit to eBay scalping?
Golden Grenadier He's pretty public about it. He sold PS3's for over $2000 at launch.
Koralik is a douche. I hate his videos. Bad vibes everywhere.
@@almostliterally593 I don't think he really is that bad, he's just kinda of a jerk.
I love the Wii, but that's not stopping me from giving this vid a thumbs-up :)
Thank you for your neutrality.
+Tom Hill I'd love to, but that piece of shit controller ruins the experience for me man.
No one made you watch it bud.
+Adam Koralik Hey Adam I'm curious have you play Donkey Kong Country Returns for the Wii ?
Not going to lie, my Wii is nothing but a glorified emulator box now and it hardly ever gets used for that.
Exactly.
Your videos are good. I've watched a whole bunch of them and though i'm not a passionate gamer, or expert on gaming history i know enough to say that these videos are pretty damn good.
I see people trying to sell their Wii's for $100 - $200
Nowadays, you'd be lucky to sell one for $10
ActuallyDarcy Ebay?
MrJason005 Local buy swap sell pages
A friend picked up one here at an auction for under $5.
On eBay you're going to pay 16 bucks for a good condition wii
I basically use my wii for Netflix and GameCube. I love the gamecube
Loved this video. I agree with so many things you said.
Thanks for watching!
***** I never used the Virtual Console.
You played red steel and said it sucked and you're right it did suck however red steel 2 was awesome it was a huge improvement from the original it had very responsive and accurate control but unfortunately the original was so bad people never tried the second and most people missed out.
on mario kart wii 3-4 players will lag the game
I could care less about the motion control games (like Wii sports).....why do you care about those types of games??
pcjoeyd11 This! Fully agreed with you.
As an Ex-Nintendo fan, I agree wholeheartedly with this video. Wii was the last Nintendo console I bought at launch. Massive dust collector......
"It's a party device that lives in their house" lol Love it.
Adam have you ever hacked your wii? That makes the system a bit more worthwhile compared to the stock version.
True btw nice Dre profile pic
***** you can even put Ubuntu on it!
Isnt OG Xbox better for that ?
Tatsunoko VS Capcom is hands down my fave Wii title. Also, that game rapes MvC3/UMvC3 in every way. So amazing!

Hey man, really enjoying your console retrospectives. Your knowledge and passion for the industry and the games is easy to see. Entertaining, informative and thoughtful views, thanks!
William Eldridge Thanks for watching!
Adam Koralik when he says Wii is bad now:
*People born 2000-2006 get super angry*
Me when I say Switch is bad in future:
*People born 2011-2017 get super angry*
Believe it or not, that just sounds like a bad sensor bar or IR interference. Nintendo's first party sensor bars have really bad range, there's even still better 3rd party ones online. Try making sure that you have no direct sunlight in the room you're playing in (close open blinds, etc). Even Christmas tree lights cause IR interference sometimes!
I haven't played a game to date with as solid controls as metroid prime corruption the Wii controller is fantastic when done right. But in the wrong hands its an abomination. And Wii sports is still single handedly the best game to show how motion controls can be amazing
The part about growing up with gaming is spot on. As a 27 year old watching the progress has been crazy.
Great to look back at these videos Adam!
I love the Wii. Possibly my favorite console of all-time; and I have been playing since the Famicom days. It was the perfect compliment to my gaming PC . And the motion controls didn't bother me at all. It had amazing exclusives, and it was just a fun console to play with friends and families.
This guy is so illogical.
Sam Gates He's one of those "Only Nintendo and PC" people, which makes absolutely no sense.
Sam Gates No, no, xrsalcedo.
Sam Gates Well yeah but apparently people forget that both the Xbox 360 and PS3 had their own first-party exclusives.
Christ m8 you litteraly replied 4 times
*sees title of video. Grabs popcorn.
I think you had bad luck with the game you choose, wii had nice fun games and a lot of good rpgs
That you had to fight tooth and nail to get released!
That's great champ.
You let your Wii collect dust and you don't play it huh? You are the one that's missing out then.
AdamKoralik
It's not bad when its flipped on its side and used that way.
This is the first legit positive thing I've ever heard about the Wii. Happy for you man.
I see some of your points, but come on. Mario Galaxy was the shit! Motion controls weren't so bad in that game. All you did was shake the controller a bit at times.
Any amount of those controls were too much.
SMG is my favorite mario game of all time. Also that OST!
I suppose the controller just isn't for you then.
Correct.
***** I prefer the GameCube controller. Problem is not all the games support it (or the classic controller).
+Moogi Beans It's not the games I take issue with, it's the useless controller I am forced to suffer through to play them.
Well, welcome back!
Wii & Switch:
Don't cry that it happened, have a smile that it's over.
GameCube & Wii U:
Don't cry it's over, be happy that it happened.
l love my Switch Lite, especially for indie games (and Nintendo games). For big budget games, I use my PC.
AdamKoralik I completely agree with the point about the wii controller. I'd much rather play twilight princess on gamecube than wii given the option.
AdamKoralik Well, I guess I played so much I got used to it.
***** yea there are a few good games but everything he said in the video is completely on point.
***** Play the Atari 5200 and get back to me.
When the controller is shitty, unenjoyable, and barely works, it's not the gamer's fault.
The game cube was underpowered because of the Xbox, the WiiU is underpowered compared to all of the other next gen consoles (it's very weak for a next gen console)
You really have no right to say the Wii was underpowered because all other Nintendo consoles always were.
SnortsOfHappiness
NES was the weakest in the generation
SNES wasn't the weakest
N64 came out years after PS1 and the Saturn, so of course it's more powerful.
NGC was weaker than Xbox, which came out merely a year after it
Wii was the weakest in the generation
WiiU was the weakest in the generation
I'm a big nintendo fan but I don't lie to myself like you do.
SnortsOfHappiness Well yeah, you're right on that point.
I don't know it's not that they really got much in the way of gameplay in those games, I guess it's just not your cup of tea
Charles Crow Well might want to keep that in mind, when they bring the New Legend of Zelda on WiiU. It might have motion controls just like previous titles.
Agreed. Glad somebody said it. No need to elaborate here 👍👏👏👏
I have a normal wii and the only games I play are mario kart and smash because of the controller and I'm thinking about getting either a wii u or a new 3ds xl what one should I get? I don't need 3rd party support because I have an Xbox 360 and I'm getting the Xbox one soon so I have it covered. Can you please help me?
The Wii is great...
...That it gave us the Wii U which is Awesome!
@@thetackytacos4636 emulating can be a pain in the butt...
The Wii had some great games and will go down as a classic console
sinchman1 HAHAHA

Fuck off....
Nurse Jackie Too stupid to even spell my name correctly, I see. Classic Nintendo fanboys, every last one of them is a drooling moron.
Jackson Vasquez
Typical Xbox/PS fanboy.
***** Typical Nintendrone.
Nintendo's biggest problem is that it focuses too much on gimmicks and fads. The Wii, the 3DS, and the Wii U, all the same. Nintendo needs to go back to making actual game systems.
hopefully the nx will be a gamers console.
+Pika Channel ikr super computer
Nintendo is only making gimmicks cause they never intended to compete with other companies during Wii lifespan.
***** PSVITA is too japanese and there aren't many American based games like FPS and RTS
Because they're different consoles.
The Wii U is great, the Wii is horrendous.
AdamKoralik
my favorite game on the Wii was new super mario bros (followed by punchout)...I played the Wii U version, and it's pretty much the same game (except in 1080p)....well, i can play new super mario bros Wii on my pc emulator (dolphin 4.0) and get the same exact experience that the Wii U version gives me....I dunno why the Wii U is so great...I really don't.
pcjoeyd11 because it has completely new titles like, wonderful 101, bayonetta 2 and hyrule warriors... And a store full of indie games. And its a console not an emulator.
I'm interested to hear your opinions on the switch haha
I have great memories of playing the Wii with friends and family and it makes a great GameCube! I still visit places where Wii sports is played.
just to put it in perspective, you can play games and watch blu rays in 3d on the ps3 which came out before the wii. even the wii u is weaker than the ps3 isnt it? nintendo reminds me of capcom in a lot of ways. they both used to be awesome, and they still could be but its almost like they intentionally choose not too. it doesnt make any sense
***** I've seen more anime games on the PS4 than on the Wii U TBH
***** about the wii u being more powerful than ps3? or about the other shit?
"b-but most games just barely use the motion controls!!"
yea, but if i have to use them for 5 seconds every 20 minutes that's still 5sec too many.
and when you have no motion control and you lay with your arms by your sides with the wire over you, there eventually is a surreal moment where you realise you're laying very still staring at a screen and you start to wonder if that's how a coma feels.
that moment is when i realised i fuckin hated the wii and that controller is pure trash.
In one of your videos from what i think was the forth generation of consoles you made a shoutout to the guy why inspired you to start make youtube videos, what is his youtube-channel name? Forgot and cant find the right video u mentioned him in..
FL0R1C You're probably referring to MN12Bird.
Yes :) was searching for mh17bird so i was not too far from it at least, anyway thank you for fast answer:)
Just going from the Wii games I own (I'm currently collecting/searching for what I consider to be the best Wii games), their traditional controller supports are as follows:
-SSB Brawl [All Wii controllers]
-MK Wii [All Wii controllers]
-Sonic Colors [Classic & GCN]
-A Boy and His Blob [Classic]
-Arc Rise Fantasia [Classic & GCN] (This one is perhaps a 3rd-tier game, but still)
-Baroque [Classic]
-Rune Factory Frontier [Classic]
-Sin and Punishment: Star Successor [Classic and GCN]
-Tales of Graces [Classic]
-TMNT: Smash-Up [Classic and GCN] (It's decent)
-Xenoblade Chronicles [Classic]
-Blast Works B,T,D [Classic]
-Dokapon Kingdom [Classic and GCN]
-Klonoa [Classic & GCN]
-The Last Story [Classic]
-Monster Hunter Tri [Classic]
-Muramasa: The Demon Blade [Classic & GCN]
-The Munchables [Classic]
-Nights: Journey of Dreams [Classic]
-No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle [Classic]
-Opoona [Classic]
-Pandora's Tower [Classic]
-Phantom Brave: We Meet Again [Classic & GCN]
-Rayman Origins [Classic]
-RE4: Wii [Classic and GCN]
-Zangeki no Reginleiv [Classic & GCN]
-Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn [Classic & GCN]
-Endless Ocean 2 [Classic]
I think I've made my point. The above are the majority of good to great to fantastic Wii games I own, which also have traditional control options. Of course, a few games noteworthy games that come to mind which don't offer other options:
-LoZ: Twilight Princess
-LoZ: Skyward Sword
-Super Mario Galaxy/2
-NSMB. Wii
-Metroid Prime 3/Trilogy (surprising)
-Kirby's Return to Dreamland
-DKC Returns
-No More Heroes
-MadWorld
-Punchout
Now, that does suck and for all but maybe 2 of those, there should definitely have been alternative controller options (really, it's not that hard) but Adam, you seem to be burning a console mainly with a complaint that is literally applicable to a handful of worthy games, and that just ain't right. :(
You should play No More Heroes and Skyward Sword (motion controls never fuck up) and get a classic controller and play some games that use that, especially Xenoblade Chronicles.
And I'm glad you like it man, but I don't. It's just how it is my friend.
Can you please tell me how there are 256 games on the system which are sooo great (all retail I hope) ? I have 60 games for it which are awesome - amazing. So I am missing 194 games which are great too?
I have these games:

I really enjoy this videos, Adam! Nice work!
Thanks!
I was totally unaware that The 3rd party said they will no longer support the wii because of poor sales now i see why
