    Well I must say I really enjoyed that! Thanks! I have two cars from the BMW world which got me into wrenching again after many years. I bought a 2002 330CI that has been fully swapped out with a 2006 E46 M3 Competition which had been in an accident and written off. I paid $7500 USD for it. I LOVE that little pocket rocket! Then I bought a 2008 335XI (Second one after I sold the first in 2014) I got it for $1500 USD. It needed a HPFP and a wheel bearing to get it moving. Then of course I did all the maintenance. Plugs, Coils, Oil, Trans filter and juice plus rear end. Now I've done turbos inlets valve cover boost solenoids cam shaft position sensors T-map and Map water pump now I'm doing suspension after I jumped to the tuning and bought X-Delete for switching the car to rear wheel drive only anytime I want. XHP Trans tune as well as "Protool" App that is amazing. Of course MHD as well. These cars aren't for the Civic or Corolla person. That's where they get the reps of being "Unreliable". Well that and from BMW. LOL.

      Cheers Jake for the comment! I find that they don't have great damping, and so the ride becomes fairly harsh compared to Bilstein/Ohlins. Obviously for the price point they do a good job and a lot more people buy them than the pricier stuff for that very reason. The other reason for my comment is durability, after 100k KM's both front shocks are leaking, the springs are rusted and they're essentially long overdue for replacing at that KM amount. The stock springs/shocks from this car which have 150k KM's are not leaking, still have some decent damping left and the springs look almost brand new and aren't rusted.

      I have BCs on my E64 650 and .. I don't know if I'd do it again. Maybe on a more track-focussed car, but on UK roads (which look a lot like Toronto's, it seems!) it's just that bit too hard.

    On the ceratec- I used to have a Legacy Spec B with the flat 6, and I tried it in that. It may have been placebo, but I felt the engine wasn’t as free revving after putting it in?
    My other concern was whether the particles could make their way in to the tight avcs and avls (Subaru’s form of variable valve timing and lift) passages and get stuck on the solenoid screens, it also seemed wrong to put tan coloured sludge in to an engine.

    • @DeadEndRestorations

  • @Milosb82
    @Milosb82 3 місяці тому

    Regarding the camber issue: that front suspension is a MacPherson strut type which by design is ill-suited for spirited driving or track use. It's cheap to produce and fits into a tight space which is why most cars have them. But the camber gain is terrible when driven at the limit (the tire goes into positive camber when you want negative camber to get as much mechanical grip). It's disappointing that even on M cars BMW uses standard suspension systems. Any serious sports car has double wishbones. But at least BMW offers carbon fiber roofs for the posers lol

    Painting bumper, but going with the used struts??

    Not to mention braking safety...

    • @DeadEndRestorations
      @DeadEndRestorations  3 місяці тому +1

      I see your point, the used struts are to get the car back on the road for the summer and do some shakedown driving and assess future work from there. The shocks aren't leaking and have good rebound, at worst they will be fine for street use. I want to see how the car rides on stock suspension before deciding whether I even want lowering springs or coilovers or just replace with bilstein B6 and keep stock ride height. thanks for watching!

    Stainless steel brake lines don’t do anything for brake feel. I have tried them compared them to oem BMW and couldn’t tell the difference. Not sure why everyone on the internet says this.

    • @DeadEndRestorations
      @DeadEndRestorations  3 місяці тому

      I agree however in aggressive driving or track conditions the feel difference would come from having no to very limited expansion of the brake lines versus rubber ones. Fluid type also plays a role in brake line expansion as well obviously.
