    I pack the gap behind the board over joists with a 8mm hole and foam before screwing. Use fast set foam then screw. Get on and skim.
    Can't always pull the board back tight enough to stop movement in old made up joist. , but foam fixes by packing gaps.

This is why it's worth paying a bit more and getting someone who really knows what they are doing and get the job done right first time. I have seen many plastering jobs like that unfortunately and it tends to look ok until the paint goes on then you see all the unevenness, lines and scars.

      Why should the decorator get the blame , there job was to paint a new plastered ceiling , not to put right a load of crap without getting paid .
      Plasterer should have been called back to correct the mess they made in the 1st place .!!

      Not cost-effective mate, and the end result wouldn't be better than a re-skim.

      Been a painter & decorator since 1983 and it never ceases to make me laugh when people say the decorator will sort that. Just because we are a finishing trade doesn't mean that we should put other trades shit work right. When we go out to price the job it's usually before any work has been done. So when they tell you it's going to be skimmed, new skirts, etc, you price assuming the work will be by competent people. The reality is more often than not the standard is as in this video and worse. We don't price for easifil and tape prior to painting a newly skimmed ceiling or walls.

    Had a spread round to skim over stippled Artex. After 2hrs he laid it on thick and it all ended up on the floor. I overboarded the ceiling and he came back to skim. Is it justified to pay him for both visits????

    Did you plaster over painted wall? I hered you cant do that and have to remove paint first?

  • @Vinncent360

    How many times can you skim a ceiling, like that one your doing I'm guessing has at least six coats of skim, the initial two, then the last guy who had a few problems and now your doing another two, how many can a ceiling take?

    Most of it is caused by the " plastering is easy culture" 😂😂😂 yer it's easy to make a complete mess of it and then proffesionals have to come in to put it right, disturbing part is the person who did this probably thought it was good 😂😂😂 i left the trade for this exact reason, it seemed to be everyday we were sent to put jobs right rather than starting new jobs,trouble is getting it on the wall isnt the issue its having the skills to finish it properly thats being lost over the years,i was taught by an old school plasterer but 20yrs was enough for me, although watching these videos is making think of getting back into it 👍

    I remember doing a ceiling like that - but bigger, over artex - The 'lady' of the house wouldn't let me turn the heating off !! ..... It got away from me after having one of the sweatiest days of My life - I was doing it for a painter mate, he took pity on Me and said He'd do all the filling etc before he painted it ... I STILL CRINGE! whenever I think about it 30 years later 😂

    How long do you leave the SBR before plastering over mate? And also do you water it down or put it on straight from the tub? Cheers 💪

    • @Onthetrowel
      @Onthetrowel  Рік тому +1

      Just until it starts to dry mate. About 20 mins... the longer you leave it the more it works. I'd you gave it 4 or 5 hours then it literally completely seals the surface
