I agree. It makes sense for some ships, particularly high performance ships, to reduce weight and profile by dropping materiel where a little airshield generation would suffice.
I adore my Raven. I named mine (figuratively; it's not officially nameable in-game yet) after the character of a gaming buddy just a few months before he passed away. I'm comforted by the fact that it can't be melted or upgraded. I don't take it out often, but I always have a blast when I do.
Thankyou for the Kind words about the Raven, the last ship I designed for SC many many moons ago, I hope you'll enjoy deep diving into the many assets, areas , architecture we are striving to deliver with Squadron soon too ;)
They actually gave it some love on 17.1 when they fix the windshield. Before you could be shoot thru the windshield and temperatures in planets like Microtech would affect you. Is not a big deal, but for us Raven owners, a little love is appreciated.
I happen to know a guy in the org I’m with who legitimately purchased two of those 900p SSDs to build one of his servers. He actually had no idea that they were a part of the promotion until he found the codes. Due to this he literally owns two Sabre Ravens which he rarely ever flys but he lets us fly them from time to time.
I bought an Optane drive, not for my gaming PC... but for my server. For the kind of workloads you run on a server, Optane was (still is!) literally _hundreds_ of times faster than a consumer SSD, whilst costing less than a quarter what an alternative enterprise SSD would cost. It was actually *exceptionally cheap* for what it was. However, you were buying features that you didn't need for gaming, so I have no idea what Intel were thinking trying to market this towards gamers. That I got a free ultra rare Star Citizen ship with my cheap enterprise SSD purchase was a nice bonus.

Just got one a couple of weeks ago via star hangar. The code worked. No idea if the seller contacted cig before hand for that to happen, but I didn't have to. I pulled it out at Tressler and then saw a Mustang Omega pulled there as well. Neat ships. Maybe they'll do a new promotion with Intel and AMD and bring these back for more people. I paid waaay too much for it, but I have an almost complete hangar now.
Just did this exact same thing. Waiting for the code right now. Been sitting on this decision for about a year and finally came to the conclusion these will only go up in price.
Mine cost 60 bucks off ebay several years ago. Its a shame its dead on the vine as of late. I think the last thing they did on it was to fix the green glow on to the cockpit glass. They were also quick to remove it's 3rd shield. Thanks Morp.

6:10 they should raise the back of the wings, make the inner wings not so blocky and get rid of the curl on the wing tip (although if they do what I suggest then then there will be no tip). The idea is the wing tip cause vortexes to form and increases drag, but a loop like some vortex ring generator will completely circumvent that. Not only a fantastic looking ship, but some of the best cinematography I’ve seen in Star Citizen videos! Thanks for always bringing great content and stepping up the bar 🙌
I think they should make a varient of this for public purchase. Remove something, like the emps or whatever or do different paints, or something.... It's sad the plebs like me can't get one. It's gorgeous
One day my dad and I were talking and he mentions this SSD he bought that comes with a ship for some game. He knows I play Star Citizen. I immediately knew. I don't take it out often but its fun to have.
Love this ship, I got super lucky in 2017 and got mine off ebay for about $50 from a computer hardware seller who had brought a load of Optane drives for his business and thought he would sell the odd bit's of paper with a serial number on it for whatever he could make, managed to sort a couple of org members out as well. Love the series, keep up the good work.
I've been meaning to say this for a while, but your aerial cinematography in SC is second to none. There's an elegance to it that reminds me of the classical work they used to do in shows and movies like Airwolf and Blue Thunder back in the day. Keep up the marvelous work and thank you for keeping us entertained. Here's hoping the Raven becomes more widely available soon. See you in the verse.
I love role play and often act as a diplomat or negotiator. The Raven and the 85x are my go to ships for flying around and meeting up with players for negotiations.
I just want a singleplayer sandbox mode released. Something the devs probably already have that would let us spawn any ship, weapon, item, or npc. No story is needed, just a test ground
I'm actually impressed the holes in the wings actually affected the flight stability at first, they should've kept it, as like you said, it's a space game, it could be a space-specific stealth fighter. Excel in a vacuum but weaker in atmo, for balance ;)
I love the Raven's design. It will probably remain exclusive for the duration of the SC Alpha Project. I won't be surprised if it becomes available for sale when SC Beta launches. I doubt CIG sold permanent exclusive rights for sales of the Raven to Intel, and CIG did say all ships will be obtainable in-game, so it's only a matter of time before the exclusivity period is finished.
CIG said that every ship except promotional ships will be, so it may not be a matter of time before the exlusivety period is over. so personally i doubt that and tre AMD mustang will be obtainable in game. could be wrong but an exlusive is an exclusive.
@@inportrace CIG seems to refrain from making representations or guarantees for anything beyond the SC Alpha Project in their disclaimers, so I really wonder if Intel purchased the rights to the Raven in perpetuity for whatever might come after SC Alpha (presumably SC Beta), but if, on the off-chance that CIG fails to deliver SC Beta, then Intel would have a write-off on their balance sheet. Seems unlikely that such an arrangement would have been made.

@@davewills6121 Hahaha no, spending several hundred dollars for a jpg light fighter is stupid. Just wait for it to be attainable in game since CIG continues to reinforce that EVERYTHING will be, and drink the tears of the people who shelled out for it.
I love my Raven and am glad you reviewed it so that more people can actually see it. I was actually the one who brought it to the ship show the other guy in here and his friend started this patch. I knew a lot of people haven't seen it and wanted everyone to check it out.
I absolutely love that you can tell a lot of thought and design went into almost all SC ships/vehicles (lookin' at you ROC DS). No other game can even come close, there is more detail in the reclaimer landing gear for instance then most other space games have in an entire fleet of ships.
I own a Raven and use it from time to time. Obviously as an owner I'd prefer it to stay rare and since I was one of few that took advantage of that Intel Optane promotion for it. However, I wish that CIG would update it a bit. The stock size 3 weapons used to be powerful but are now not worth it. I usually change them out for FOTM size 3s.
Last I heard, the contract that keeps that ship so exclusive is also why CIG can't improve it. Also the community at large would give serious back lash if it ever happened since there's no way to get it anymore.
I've got both the Sabre Raven and the Mustang Omega, and was super excited to have both. The Raven is my favorite looking ship, but unfortunately, due to the nerfs and the lack of good performance in, well... anything, means it stays in the hangar. I'm hoping it'll shine as a blockade runner for data running type deal, but I don't actually know how "stealthy" the Raven is.
Hey Morphologist. Thanks so much for doing a video on the Raven! It is with our a doubt my favorite ship in my fleet (which at this point is saying something) and I believe that it deserves a little more love. I would note that the flight characteristics are much better than the standard Sabre so it actually does quite well as a fighter in spite of the relatively light armament. I would love it if anyone has good tactics to share as it can sometimes be cumbersome to fly with wingmen.
End of the day, Keeping it unstable in Atmosphere would have been a quirk that keeps it a relegated to space which would be interesting. Would give it some interesting fluff.
I don't think they will ever re-sell the Sabre Raven because its an Intel exclusive. Just like they said they would never re-sell the Mustang AMD Omega back in the day.
The Sabre Raven is definitely my favorite collectable ship. I have the Dragonfly Yellowjacket, Mustang Alpha Vindicator, Nox Kue, and Sabre Raven and out of those 4 the Raven is a thing of beauty. I joined the "Sabre Raven Owners Club" org with about 70+ others who also have this ship just to participate in group shots with this amazingly designed ship. EDIT: Just like the Mustang Ogema and Dragonfly Star Kitten, I don't ever see the Sabre Raven being available for purchase or attainable any other way in the future. The appeal was they were promo limited ships, regardless of how CIG decided you were able to get them, and if you got or earned one then great, but if you missed it, you lost your chance. Only other way I could think of to temporarily fly one is to borrow or steal it from someone who has one
I wish that it would have 4 hardpoints. The wings have cut outs in the front where the turrets of the standard one sit, so I think it was intentional first. Power consumption is a thing, yes, but they could balance it that you have no guns while you charge the EMP. I don’t think the EMP makes up Missiles and 2 S3 hardpoints. I love to fly it and it’s beautiful, especially when it’s parked near a bunker at night 🤤
What are the intakes used for? Engines get energy from the reactor, from my understanding of RSI explanation of the energy/engine systems. Which makes the intakes redundant?
I used to hate how this ship looked, but it has grown on me. I do like the holes in the wings. Back in 2014 Intel launched the 730 sereies 2.5" sata SSDs. They cost $250 for a 240gb drive. They were among the most expensive and they were not the fastest. They were said to be very reliable. A year later I bought two of them from Newegg for $109 each. They still run in raid 0 in my system today. Had I not been so satisfied with how they looked astechically while also meeting my needs, I would have purchased a 900P optane drive when they came out. I am dissapointed I missed getting one, but enjoy the fact that such a rare ship exists.
It’s a stunning ship, what a pity it’s not released on some form of limited release again (even an adapted variant so the originals remain super rare). It’s beautiful, I love it and would snap one up if I could.
I've wanted a Raven since I first saw the picture of one outside of Astro Armada. Had to research it and was broken hearted when I found out that you can't get them anymore. I hope they come up with a similar model that the rest of us regular folk can buy.
Nice to see a video of the Raven, going through some of its paces for posterity :) It would be cool if, in the future CIG do either or both of: (a) release essentially a slight skin variant of the Raven; (b) current Raven becomes buyable in-game after completing some Squadron 42 objective ... Like the F-8
Thank you for making this video! Good stuff as always 👍 👏 I have a Raven, and I have a fun feature idea they should add to it. Have a button that turns on a blue holographic field in the wings. The field would help with arrow dynamics for atmospheric flight
I've wanted one of these since way before I even started playing sc. I remember seeing news about the promo, and the ships cool design got me to finally give sc a chance
I was given a Raven by a friend, and couldn't be happier with how good it looks. Though something you didn't mention is that while it is a decent stealth ship, this is only when the EMP's are off. Otherwise the EM signature is a massive 14k, meaning you can be scanned from further away. There also aren't any long range armaments to complement said stealth.
My Starfarer Gemini was attacked my a player in a Saber Raven MANY MANY patches ago, back when they were dabbling in the hull armor. It was an annoyance, they couldn't put a dent in me. However, they were able to keep me consistently disabled with the dual EMP emitters. If they had been working with a group, my goose would have been cooked. However, I think an opportunity is being missed with this ship in it's concept. I would think it would make a great reconnaissance platform and data smuggler. Once modules are available, perhaps CIG will provide this ship with some needed flexibility. They certainly shouldn't be neglecting it, although I understand the need for resource prioritization. It will need some love soon. I can't think of a better ship to use while exploring Pyro, maybe in conjunction with a Carrack, than a stealth ship that can disable a vessel in order to evade contact and escape.
I have one. Always loved the style and uniqueness of it. I don't fly it much because of the reasons you've stated. It would be nice to see improvements. On the other hand I wouldn't want it to be sold again and lose it's exclusivity. Just my .02
I've always wanted a Raven. The angular design is just so amazing... and it is blue, just my favourite colour... and E-Warfare is something just cool. I really really hope there one day is again a way to gain access to it. I do like the sabers intakes, but the ravens are just so much sleaker. Darn... the raven is just such a beauty
Remember seeing models of the ship and poster in Area 18 and wondering what ship it was. But love the look of the ship. it would be cool to see them introduce a variant on it, that had a senor package instead of the emp. To make it a good ship for recon, that could scout ahead of a fleet to gather intel. A variant would benefit the owners of the ship keeping it unique, but getting it up to gold more often. tho if Intel owns the rights to that full design, owners of the ship wouldn't see an update to gold till the game's release.
Sabres should store guns internally behind hatches to be more stealthy. then add a gun mode, like missile mode, that make em pop out and increase signature
I would of bought one when the option was available if I had known about star Citizen back then. The day I discovered this ship was the day I cried that it's impossible to own now.
I always wanted a Raven. I do hope they have more ships with the same design language. The High Tech angle is something that isn't used by CIG that much.

If the ship has “air shields” that fill the holes, then the wings could be functional while the cutouts reduce mass and cross section.

Fun facts. On Star Citizen Grey Market. The codes for Raven (whether they work or not). Currently sell for 1200USD, or equivalent in Bitcoin.
I've wanted a Raven since I first saw the picture of one outside of Astro Armada. Had to research it and was broken hearted when I found out that you can't get them anymore. I hope they come up with a similar model that the rest of us regular folk can buy.
I very much appriciate the "quirks and features" reference!
Nice to see a video of the Raven, going through some of its paces for posterity :)
It would be cool if, in the future CIG do either or both of: (a) release essentially a slight skin variant of the Raven; (b) current Raven becomes buyable in-game after completing some Squadron 42 objective ... Like the F-8
Unlikely for either to happen - but I am happy with the exclusivity it has thanks. I dont want them everywhere.
Thank you for making this video! Good stuff as always 👍 👏
I have a Raven, and I have a fun feature idea they should add to it. Have a button that turns on a blue holographic field in the wings. The field would help with arrow dynamics for atmospheric flight
thats a really cool idea
@@kosmosskuggan9827 Thank you 😀
I've wanted one of these since way before I even started playing sc. I remember seeing news about the promo, and the ships cool design got me to finally give sc a chance
Ill just say this... Thank you for giving this bird some much needed love.
I love the design, the colours and the use of negativ space
This ship will always be and has always been my Hangar Queen.
My Raven is one of my prized possessions, but I really don't get a chance to use it all that often.
Morphologis , it will be cool to make reviews on Strar Trek ships too!
They should use glass in the holes on the wings
Your "Architect Reviews" videos are my favorite Star Citizen content.
Video feels more informal and more like the real you, without losing quality. I like it, Morph!
That is a gorgeous craft. Due to its stealth profile design I can see it being used as a forward scout for various fleet operations, combat or civvy.
I'd honestly never even heard of the Raven until this video.
Gotta love an architect review, having my coffee while looking at construction documents
Sabres should store guns internally behind hatches to be more stealthy. then add a gun mode, like missile mode, that make em pop out and increase signature
Looks like your wish may be granted soon!
Uhh Morph that was a bop of an intro. Keep it up!
This is always my go to ship for ship meets.
I would of bought one when the option was available if I had known about star Citizen back then. The day I discovered this ship was the day I cried that it's impossible to own now.
I like that I saw someone joked years ago that the James Webb space telescope will be released before Star Citizen and it's now reality.
bro you seem so hype in this video love the feel keep this up!
