You're so right. So many shows with POC leads get only the smallest budgets and pared down to 6 episodes. Rapman is obviously a fan of 'Attack the Block" - that A-Town scene and goon costumes are direct lifts. Hopefully we get more; it was entertaining although less thuggery and more psychon horror would give this series more depth.
Correct! Ugh, I actually had a piece about Attack the Block, but cut it out. I was attaching it to the part where I talk about the contrast of the grittiness of the gang experience with this supernatural element. Absolutely agree about delving deeper and going beyond just the gang elements, because there's plenty that can be explored within this world. 👏👏👏
Right! I forgot that some British productions have only 6 episodes for their seasons, but I do think we needed at least 2 more to flesh everything out. 👌👌👌
I loved *Supa Cell* and it was recommended to me by my oldest son yesterday. I watched three episodes and am watching the rest tonight. Of the thousands of things I loved about this series, the one thing I'll mention is how much I LOVED the skin color of the cast. That is rare since most movies are filled with women that look like Zendaya, so this was a beautiful and welcome change that I hope continues.
Absolutely! That's what I was referencing when I mentioned the "blackity black black" piece at the end. I remember that's something that I loved seeing in Black Panther as well. The melanin was popping all through the cast! Hope this is something that continues to become the rule and not the exception. So happy to hear that you enjoyed the series and thanks for supporting the review. 🙏🙏🙏
Def agree with your points! Also, the father’s character development blew me by the end too but also spoke to capitalism - but hopefully they’ll tie it altogether. I loved it too for all the reasons you mentioned, and the diverse representation of each main character
Oh, Andre's outcome was messed up as well. But like you said, that whole capitalism piece (plus the crime element) definitely contributed to that. I'm really excited to see the progression of these characters in the next season! 🙏🙏🙏
I have def been meaning to check this one out been so busy since month with outside life and you def have got me wanting to check this out but damn 6 episodes i dont understand these studios going for these short series formula great review man glad to hear you had a good time with this one
No worries! I hope everything has been all good with you on and off UA-cam, my friend! 🙏🙏🙏 Apparently, part of this is the BBC setup for some of their series, which I understand. But I do think that limits some of the depth and exploration of this one, although I did really enjoy it.
First - When you available for us to link up for an interview/conversation??? Second - Great breakdown! I’m actually all for lesser episodes in a binge format as long as the story justifies it because I hate filler material… The show wasn’t on my radar but it definitely is now! Gonna check it out
Hey! I'll hit you up on IG and let you know. I am as well! Personally, I think there was more that could have been fleshed out with a couple of more episodes. But I still wasn't completely mad at the amount of story we got within the six of these. 👌👌👌
Supacell is the antidote to American Society. I cringed when Sabrina levitated in the future. She was swinging on them wires😩. On the other hand, I can totally see a boomer African mom looking exactly like that when she’s about to unleash her power on some mofos. I get Dionne going there and staying as long as she did. I think love made her irrational, just like it did Michael. But when she agreed she would leave, she took too long to peel out of there. I still gasped tho. Great review!
YES! Believe me, I am very grateful for that. There's no end to the smoke that I can give TASOMN. Not swinging on the wires! But I get what you mean. Definitely! I'm not discounting that part and I understood her hanging around to an extent. But when she hopped out of the car to fight ole boy choking Michael on the hood? I was like, "MA'AM!!!" 😭😭😭
Bro I agree with every you said. Tazer is so hard to like. In the first three episodes. I was so back and forth on how I felt about him. And Dione. WHY WHY WHY?
I'm glad we're on the same page! I get Tazer's perspective based on his circumstances, but he does TOO much! He really had me stressed. I didn't get Dionne purposely placing herself in harm's way instead of leaving as she was told to MULTIPLE times! Even if the outcome was supposed to happen, it could have happened much differently. 🙃🙃🙃
That blew me too when Dionne died.. ladies when your man say it's time to go y'all should listen.. we don't say that for no reason🤣🤣 glad I don't have that problem with my wife💪🏾💪🏾
Well it been a minute since I seen you do a review but glad to see you are doing alright. How are you and how was your weekend? Just here to support the channel?
Hey, TRC! Just trying to keep the consistency going. It's been pretty great thus far. Got to spend some time with my mom and enjoy some days off work. The support is always appreciated! 🙏🙏🙏
I have never heard of Supercell, but then again I don’t really follow a lot of tv shows at all, so that would probably explain why 😂 Great hearing your thoughts D and the fact you want more episodes just shows that maybe I’m missing out on something great!
I guess that means for sure you "didn't Z this?" It was a really solid experience, so I hope Netflix/Rapman give the people what they want and soon! 🙏🙏🙏
Thank you for tuning in, and also for the recommendation! I haven't watched it, but I did look it up and it seems like it might be pretty entertaining.
Maaan loved the concept and much of the execution. I will say I was frustrated by a great deal of the short-sighted, at times just downright stupid, decisions made by just about every character. What's worse is, I didn't sit there and think "ahhh yeah, though I disagree with what you just did, I see why" (totally doable ie Killmonger). I wasn't given enough to accept actions as anything more than plot fuel. All that said, that was my main gripe with the show and other than that, I was entertained thoroughly
I do think that's a general storytelling flaw. I realize that there are some contrivances and/or conveniences that might have to happen, but if the bulk of the story hinges on that, it's not a great thing. Glad to hear you still had a fun time with this, though. Thanks for tuning in! 🙏🙏🙏
There were cringy moments to me in the first episode as well, but I thought it improved as it went on. However, it also may not be something that clicks with you in general, and that's okay, too. 👌👌👌
Great review!!! Saw this trailer. At first glance I though DragonBall lol 🤦🏻♀️what is up with the short episode seasons?! A lot of shows are doing that. I find it annoying. Although, it does help me get through my list quicker lol
Ha! A remix of Dragonball Z with black South Londoners would really be something! Someone mentioned that some British productions limited their seasons (series) to 6 episodes, which I didn't realize. But I do find that it's a reoccurring trend even with American series, and I can't say I'm a huge fan myself. However, I also like being able to work through a series and get it out the way without too much filler involved. 🙏🙏🙏
I agree with your take on a few things. 1) The short amount of episodes. I feel like some of the plot was being rushed through and they could’ve taken their time to build. And 2) the likability of Tazer. Imo He’s the type of character you want to root for because of all that he’s been through but his actions are soo off balance. Hence why i didn’t bother watching season 4.

My biggest issue boils down to that final fight scene and intentionally throwing herself headfirst into danger when she had opportunities to escape AND was told to do so multiple times.

Thank you, sir! I figured it was on theme. I'm really happy to hear this was renewed for a second season! 👌👌👌
I've watched like five different videos on this show and not one person is mentioned that the show is ends July 9th 2024
This reminds me of misfits. I’m going to check it out per your recommendation 😊 thanks! I needed something to watch.
