The Pokemon from Gen 1 - 4 are the Pokemon I grew up with.
What I love about all the Gen IV animations is that they were all made using only two sprites each--excluding the DP back sprites, only using one.
Carvanha, Feebas, and Luvdisc have my favorite back sprites from DP.
The way they warped the sprites give the illusion there there are two frames used to simulate swimming.

I completely forgot that plat had different and more upgraded animations from DP
Platinum had updated sprites for sinnoh's regional dex pokemon only. For pokemon not found in sinnoh, it used the sprites from diamond and pearl. Platinum did add backsprite animation to *every* single pokemon tho.
Also, HGSS used platinum sprites for non regional dex mons as well
They actually used all DPP sprites for mons found or discovered outside of Johto/Kanto, as well certain Kanto/Johto mon’s respective gen 3/4 evolutions
Platinum added in second frames to these backs.
They all have two frames. Some are just either different, or very hard to spot, like Dusknoir.
@@oatmeal0 in diamond and pearl, they don't; they just move around, they got new frames of animation in platinum.
Oh, I must have been thinking of the front sprites.
@@oatmeal0 Yeah, all gen 4 front sprites have 2 frames of animation. All sprites from Platinum, Heartgold and Soulsilver have 2 frames of backsprites as opposed to 1 frame in Diamond and Pearl.

Uh, actually, all johto Pokemon got new sprites in Heartgold and Soulsilver. Besides, Diamond and Pearl have different sprites to Platinum for the regional dex mons.

Only for Sinnoh Pokemon and any Kanto, Johto, Hoenn Pokemon found in the updated Sinnoh Dex as well as Registeel (for Japanese/Korean/American/British English)
Platinum also has actual backsprite animations

I like how some of the sprites in Platinum are just a rehash of the second frames they have.

When I see the Pokemons sprites like this in D/P, my mind instantly goes to RSE. DP is basically just the ruby and sapphire to the Gen 4 games but with actual sprite animations.
Ugh...back when every Pokemon felt super unique with their animations, defense sprite, and offense sprite. Nowadays we get a washed out 3D model that just drops in and stands like a statue...
They literally all stood like a statue after their animation.
@@typhoon_abm5691 Yeah, but it's a 2D game. Which isn't even an excuse, because Black and White further evolved the sprites to have movements and gave the Pokemon more personality. Something the 3D games SEVERELY lack.
