poiuyt yes but in for example HGSS on the route after Violet City, there are wild Mareeps, which have a LONG ASS ANIMATION. I had to suffer seeing those animations just to find a male Mareep

8-bit pepe yeah, today I am fixing some of Emeralds(also RSFRLG but Emerald is first), bad sprites with Gen 4 and 5 sprites and Chimeco was the last one and I was like dude wtf
Gen 3 Pidgeot aerial flip will still be superior to the gen 4 Kakawh Pidgeot.

The Emerald Pidgeot wins over the DP one by a landslide, but things could've been different if they used the Beta DP one
I honestly prefer the FRLG Pidgeot, has the smug smile insead of a weird-looking glare, oh and the fact that I commonly see FRLG Pidgeot more than RSE's Pidgeot considering it's rare and it's only seen in the battle frontier, because of that, I'm more accustomed to the FRLG Pidgeot, but that's not saying RSE Pidgeot is bad or anything, still has it's greatness imo.

Well, it makes sense. DP was rushed; Emerald is a refinement of a game that had no animations.
I don't know if I fully agree. I think it's case by case. I can't in good conscience say that Ratata and Wartortle look better in gen 3. I think Mewtwo and Mew look slicker and better designed in gen 4, too.
But I much prefer Lombre and Seedot's gen 3 sprites... Definitely case by case for me.

Ngl I’m surprised, I actually prefer some of the gen 3 animations to the gen 4 ones. Obviously in a technical level the sinnoh animations are better, but some gen 3 ones just have a little more character imo. Like Clefairy, Venomoth, Diglett and magnemite!
Bonus goofy mentions for Dodrio, Seel, Chinchou and Heracross.
Another thing I noticed is that in gen 3 the animations almost always have a kind of ‘lipsync’ that matches their cry, but this was lost a lot in gen 4. Same for blinking eyes, there aren’t many sprites with those or open mouths. Kinda detracts imo
Eh I disagree a lot of the gen 3 sprites are really bad and I wouldn’t want to use them bc they r so bad. Specifically Salamanca and Babette are really bad

I feel like the gen 3 animations (Emerald) are a lot more powerful giving the player the "sense of being alive" of the pokemons, by simply stretching or bouncing. idk maybe it's just my gba nostalgia
That's definitely the case for some of them but not all
There's not a very huge difference despite both of them being on different platforms. This shows how good emerald was according to GBA standards.
Game freak have always been reusing their code and assets from game to game that's why

Can we all agree but there are some drastic color changes of certain pokemon between Dimond, Pearl and Emerald
The most drastic one to me is salamence
Most of them were for the bettee
There's a brief frame at 16:04 where we can see Feebas with Milotic's palette on the Emerald side of the screen and it's weird lookin.

Can someone explain why most of the 3rd gen sprites look so much better in most cases? They feel like they're "cleaner", but I can't put my finger on it (for example Umbreon)

The gen 3 ones were much more extra and had more personality. The gen 4 ones mostly just move around slightly and stretch a bit.
I don't know how you thought this worked but the way they make the sprite animation is by drawing two frames and flipping between them while squashing and stretching them. that's just how it works for all of them.

A lot of the animations in Emerald are better than in Diamond and Pearl, but the sprite quality and colors are so much better on Diamond and Pearl that it makes up for some of the bad animations imo.

I really really love how some of the sprites like Linoone, Slakoth and Dustox has the same exact sprite as in both generations. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Electrike diamond and pearl animation: 6 seconds

Gens 4,3, and 5 are my favorites.
I miss the personality the sprites had... The 3d models feel so dead in comparison. Oh whatd I give for more sprite based pokemon games.
Or, even better, more stylized pokemon games. The current 3d games dont have much going for their visuals, so I feel making them stylized, like the pmd remake was, would make them look so much better

Hard agree on the personality thing for some models. Sword and Shield's models and textures for the Pokemon, despite some of the overworld ones being inconsistent, were really lively, and the way they implemented the designs and already-existing animations of certain Pokemon into their attacks for Gen 8 (Scorbunny and Carkol's Flame Charges) were really nice! I wish they would make new animation rigs for Pokemon like Marshtomp, Chesnaught, or the Typlosion line, who have pretty lackluster animation cycles and attack animations, so that way more of those better quality animations seen in Sword and Shield (and even Sun and Moon to an extent) could be present.
Gen 4 Milotic actually looks a lot more beautiful, according to his natural beauty
