      I had the bxt and kii3 here for Christmas.. and about a month ago I pulled the trigger. I love how the image, tightness just comes together. Never had my room that tight before. I'm sure you have the pro menu option in the control right? It was beta for a while but it's worth updating to do the last things to taste. I see these speakers as having a marvel super power.

      Just bc they offer higher priced options might not mean they’re actually optimal for a studio monitor. I’m sure they did plenty of research and you’ll have to consider that they likely work against any of their driver’s shortcomings using very sophisticated DSP processing.
      Also, if you look at the other drivers, all made by Tymphany, they’re not the most prestigious models either but it’s all about the integration, voicing, cabinetry, and processing.

    Just added the BXT's. Of course they make me drool whenever I listen. However, I'm not sure what to use to calibrate them. Previously on the Kii Three satellite speakers I used my Trinnov and that worked fabulously. But with the BXT's the Trinnov is confused and cannot evaluate them, much less calibrate them.
    What do you use to calibrate them?
    Thanks.

    • @cycleofficial4744
      @cycleofficial4744 4 роки тому

      I heard Kii and Kii + BXT in comparison.. I encourage you to do the same. It doesn't necessarily feel like more output, it just sounds different, kinda more grounded, balanced and yes, even more "right" (the whole system now has way more headroom because the bass woofers and the midrange woofer don't have to work that hard anymore, less distortion and now with the BXT, hardly any ceiling and floor reflections, that's what they call "array effect").

    • @fosterlewis7360
      @fosterlewis7360 4 роки тому

      I don’t have a dog in the race, but I’ll echo cycleofficial’s assertions. Bruno Putzeys has said that the system will reduce THD by about 10dB in the BXT’s operating range. And the line array does mitigate the floor and ceiling “bounce” that usually causes a couple disruptions to the frequency response curve. But I see the real advantage in dropping the THD on a speaker that measures quite high in it below 250Hz. I’d expect significantly more resolution in the low mids and lows as a result of adding these integrated sub cabinets.
      The COST though! 😨

      @@fosterlewis7360 thanks for the info.. 10 dB is quite something..

    • @fosterlewis7360
      @fosterlewis7360 4 роки тому +1

      cycleofficial I decided to look up what I’d read, since I don’t want to spread misinformation. Pasted the link at the end. Putzeys is quoted as saying at least 10dB reduction in distortion (but doesn’t specify at what spl nor whether with pure tones or pink noise). This makes a lot of sense because the drivers won’t have to operate at such extreme excursion, not only from the tripling of power and driver area but also from the dramatic increase in cabinet volume.
      10dB reduction really is “something significant.” But I’ve also seen some alarmingly-high non-BXT distortion measurements from independent reviews, like for everything below 250Hz. So it may not be as much an achievement as a reduction in that design-compromise. Then again, loudspeaker measurement is quite a difficult science and few reviewers have the facilities or knowledge to do it properly. And it is quite possible that active dispersion control may present complications to accurate measurement technique compared to conventional designs. But it may not. And there is quite a bit of modern research (Sean Olive and Floyd Toole at Harman) that suggests that THD is largely unimportant, taking a major back-seat to a flat on-axis frequency response and an even power response (roughly put-the frequency response of the total sound energy put into the room). What appears to be an estimated power response on the linked review is pretty much ideal. But I’d still love to see a properly measured waterfall plot with accuracy and detail down to 40Hz...
      Loudspeakers design is inherently an awful series of tradeoffs. But as Putzeys says here, doing a cardioid bass line array that mitigated the floor bounce is really something amazing. It’s something that no other designs can boast. Even Northward Acoustics concedes that the frequency response disruption from the floor bounce as something unavoidable and that it simply must be accepted.
      Anyhow, here is the link. I recommend you read it yourself. His quotes are in a sidebar on the right side of the page.
      kiiaudio.com/media/GENERAL/docs/reviews/hificritickiithreeen.pdf
      p.s.-As if all that wasn’t nerdy or wordy enough, another point worth recognizing is the dynamic range improvement the BXTs should yield. Having more headroom in the low end may be as-important or more-important than all these other things. Particularly depending on the top end of a given engineer’s range of monitoring levels. It’s kind of the corollary to “lower THD” in the bass. In the end, Hoffman’s Iron Law always applies.
      I would definitely like to demo the Threes without the BXTs. Alas, it’s unlikely I’ll be able to consider a $15k purchase for some years.
