    Thank you for this video. I had my first volunteer this year and had no clue what to do. Now I know and the birds will be so happy.

    You can use the stock to make trellis with twine 😊

      @@simplybloom I saw someone do that with some huge sunflower stocks. They dried them and made a ladder trellis and a tee-pee trellis.

    Hi Mya, Your sunflower video was very timely. I've planted sunflowers from seed for the last two years and rabbits or deer have eaten all of them and I would end up with no blooms. This year I planted them in pots and once they were 12 inches high I planted ( hid them) behind a row of cosmos, SUCCESS! Do you know what variety the giant sunflower is? I only have dwarf sunflowers. Have fun camping!

      Hi Rylee, I’m so happy for you! Smart thinking about hiding them behind the cosmos! I think it was a Mongolian giant. And the branching was a lemon queen. I planted both those last year and I was planning on saving the seeds but the birds got to them before I could. Worked out well in my favor! Not only did the birds replant them but they replanted them in a perfect spot! Thanks for watching! And we had fun camping!

      Thank you Julie! I had about 8 volunteer sunflowers in total this year, and all of them were healthier, bigger and stronger than all the ones I planted. I’m not sure why. The volunteers look like trees, the ones I planted look like skinny pencils. Thanks for watching!

      Hello! That is a beautiful variety of sunflowers. I know sunflowers can take a LONG time to start to flower and actually produce the seed. So my best advice is to be patient and they should come!

    Do the top sunflower is the only one you harvest or if it grows more than one do you harvest them too

    • @simplybloom
      @simplybloom  День тому

      You can harvest all the sunflowers as they mature and ripen but I find the flowers at the top are the biggest.

    Is it true you harvest when the plant droops and watch for the birds hit

    • @simplybloom
      @simplybloom  День тому

      Yes, I try to harvest it before the birds find it because they can clean the seeds up pretty fast, but once you see birds starting to eat from the flower you know the seeds are typically ripe. I typically like to harvest the big flower at the top and then I’ll leave the smaller flowers for the birds.
