Good information.
Your kiddos are so sweet! Way to go to have them close by in your gardens. You are teaching them.
I enjoy this series and had been waiting for the next one, we all have these areas so it’s nice to know we are not alone! Thanks Miya❤️ Brenda🇨🇦ZN4
It’s going to look so beautiful! I love that your daughter helped she’s did a great job.
Hi Mya! I love this series, it inspires me to tackle all the dirty little secrets in my garden. I don't have an auger either, every time I think about getting one I end up buying plants instead, haha!
What a fun project with your daughter. She's at the perfect age to help! It's gonna be beautiful!
I dig, wash and divide my tubers every year. This year I had over 700 dahlias planted. Some died but I dug them up and divided and now I have over 1200 tubers. Since I have way more tubers than I can ever use I wasn't really careful dividing them unless it was one that was my favorite and wanted many tubers for next year. I store them in saran wrap from Costco. This is the only wrap that I feel works. I roll the 1st tuber 3 times then add the next and roll. I do this until it's a good sized ball of tubers. Then I store them in burlap crates in my garage that has a heater turned to 43 degrees. I never check on them but I've had the best luck storing them this way. The vermiculite way they get too dried out and less than half survived.
There's nothing better than soups and stews now that it's fall. Enjoy!
Hi from South Africa. Just something I picked up watching your video: next time, put a weed block fabric down before you add your soil mix. It will stop all that grass you covered from growing back. I loved your video and it's inspired me to do something similar for my wife
Great job! Your daughter will be so excited when they bloom beautifully in the spring!
She was such a great helper and I love how excited she
Maya that's going to looks amazing next year.❤❤❤
Maya that's going to looks amazing next year.❤❤❤
It's going to look beautiful in the spring ! Great helper you have there ❤
The 🐿found mine.Have to plant more. Going to put wire over them. Aw your daughter is a little helper ❤IT is fun having kids involved planting 😊The tulips going to look so pretty 😊Whata cute family 😊
I say do what works for you. I grow a lot of dahlias each year I have yet to store them I’m going to give your method a try. I’ve see others knock dirt off after it dries and store in a paper grocery bag. This yea4 Laura, Garden Answer used plastic wrap to store making the process easier. Thanks
Do you know what variety that was with the foot long tuber ? Something tells me no .😂😜 Anyway, love your method,no fuss, get what you get 🤪 Tell your little guy I said HAPPY BIRTHDAY !!! 🎂
I do that with my dahlias as well, and also my cannas and elephant ears, but those just stay in metal wash tubs without any cover. They spend the winter in my garage that has heat but only around 45. I’m going to do the same with my banana tree that I got this yr. It’s easy for me to check them often too.
Good going, Mya. I stopped the dahlia tuber planting this season and had more aster, salvia, and hardy hibiscus for late season color. I did not miss the dahlias at all. Being zone 4, I just don't enjoy them enough to justify the work. I still dig canna lilies and gladiolas though. Happy fall!
Geez 😂 it's good that you dug the bulbs 😂 it literally started snowing in the end 😂 The baby in the ending part of video is cute 😊 he really enjoyed watching you plant the bulbs
Love the honesty, this is my first year with dahlias, I cleaned them up and divided (don’t even know if I did that right 😂), but only one way to find out. Thanks for the tips.
Smart girl!! I don’t plant Dalia’s because of all the work but I am going to get a couple and try your method. I knew of a lady who did the same to Geraniums and forgot about them in her attic, found them in September with all kinds of growth, plants are pretty resilient. Thanks Miya, great video! Brenda🇨🇦ZN4
I just cut mine and put malch over them in ground. They haven't frozen in ground yet 🤞Yes i remember my 6 kids little. It is hard.I hope everything goes well 🤞😊
What zone do you live in?
@simplybloom I think 6 in West Virginia
Keep doing what works best for you! I have too many dahlias to store clumps so I dig them up, rinse them off, let them dry and then divide and label. In between each clump I disinfect my tools. I store them in vermiculite and use a govee thermometer to track temp and humidity on my phone. I have reminders in my phone to check them every 2 weeks during the winter. Happy dahlias!
Gorgeous!❤️
Thank you!
❤
Wow !!! You're getting it all in , love it !!! Gonna look great come Spring 😊
Thank you!
🍁
What a sweet baby 😊Those daylilly s going to be pretty. Aw your little ones are helping ❤So sweet..Everything going to be so pretty 😊
Thank you!
How sweet of your husband to bring you flowers. Beautiful arrangements.
I’m very blessed to have such a great husband 😊
Good for you for getting things in the ground, so dry here I believe I would need a jack hammer 😒 Love your sons chocolate face and fun outfit 😜
It has been very dry here too. I just planted the last few plants of the season today and it started raining, I was so happy to receive the rain!
Thanks! Just what I wanted to know!
Glad it helped!
What happened to the ones you pulled last year? just checking the survival rate🙂 Lemon cypress are the best but I am in zonw=e 8b..I do grow them in containers and bring it indoors during winter.
Honestly I didn’t keep up on watering the ones that I over wintered and most of them turned pretty crispy so I tossed them. I did have one survive the winter and I did plant it in a container in front of my garage! I probably won’t be overwintering any more just because they took up a lot of space in my tiny house and the one that I did overwinter successfully turned a dark green probably from lack of light and it never got the bright neon color back even after being planted back outside so I’ll probably just buy new ones every spring.
Spring beauty coming your way. I forget about weigela as a spring bloomer love the dark foliage on very fine wine. Thanks
I’m excited to see them fill in!
❤ Brenda🇨🇦
Beautiful
Thank you!
You should have much beauty in spring
I hope so!
Fun! I just finished planting my bulbs your selection is beautiful. I planted for years using a shovel till I got a 3” short shaft auger from power planter runs off my regular drill. So glad to hear you will continue to go to the farmers market.
I’d like to try a power planter auger but my husband told me not until I get a different drill lol
You should use a @Power Planter auger!!!
Someday I’d love to have a whole set! My husband just doesn’t want me to ruin another one of drills right now 😬🥴 so I need to invest in a proper drill first.
Love how you get the kids involved, gonna be so cute come Spring 😍😍😍
It makes me so happy when they want to help me in the garden!
Beautiful!
Thank you!
I’m on my third year planting garlic my favorite is German Hard Neck. This year I added Music and Chesnok Red both hard necks. I also use BioTone when planting I’m hoping for a good harvest next summer.
I’ll have to try those varieties next year!
So pretty 😊
Thank you!
Such a hassle now but so rewarding in spring! Brenda🇨🇦
Yes, I get so much hope seeing the tips of the tulips pushing through the soil in the spring!
❤ the fragrance of daffodils 🌼, enjoy your blooms in spring.
I love the fragrance too! I know people either love it or they don’t and I personally love it!
Great selection. 🌺🌿🌸🍁
Thank you!
Fun Miya! My husband are planting daffodils now too. We have 450 and should get done planting today! Happy planting! It helps us look forward to the beauty of spring!
That will be so gorgeous!
I love the varieties that you chose! Those alliums will be gorgeous
I thought of your garden when I bought them. I love all of the alliums that you have!
The tulips are going to look so pretty 😊I love seeing kids learning about plants ❤They are so cute ❤
Thank you!
The kids were so sweet to help. Always worth putting in the work in Fall when these beauties show up in spring 🌷
So true! And yes they love to help me in the garden!
