- I was lucky enough to get my hands on this absolute jdm legend 🙌
I can honestly say it’s one of the most fun cars I have had the opportunity to drive and that is primarily down to the handling but also combination of how sounds and delivers power.
My verdict is that it is a better road car compared to the jdm WRX STI type R, but with a price tag of up to £35,000, do you think it’s worth the money? Get in the comments 👇

Type R all the way... what you didn't mention was the dccd that was stripped from the p1 because they couldnt make it work with abs..

I actually did a factory tour at Pro Drive at the end of 2000, and seen these being finished off. These are for sure an investment, but I’d say the time to sell is within the next 5 years. Another great video!

This is truly a monster in wheels. I am blessed to have this GC8 95 model here in Botswana bought straight from Japan it is a sweet monster especially on gravel roads like in my country. I always turn to sme sort of sales person selling this babe I love IT I LOVE SUBARU WRXs

I loved the P1 as a teenager read every Evo article it featured in multiple times over and my dad had a turbo 2000 with a prodrive rear wing which I also loved. Great vid, you've a bit of a Sarah-n-tuned vibe going on which is a compliment and she's also a real Scooby fan as well. +1 subscriber and I'm off to view your back catalogue.

Looking at getting a Subaru Blobeye would like an STI but my budget is more WRX but the longer I look even WRX are shooting up in value may have missed my chance

The debate with the P1 V's Type R has been going on for ever. It is a good job that we are all different and like different things in life. They are both fantastic cars in their own right.

@@rtorbs For me, Impreza Type r. It's the 4wd thing that does it for me. Plus that sound of a flat 4 with the right exhaust on. And i don't mean a big drain pipe sticking out of the rear at the wrong angle 😉

Lol “276”. That was the capped “gentleman’s agreement” on horsepower. It was to throw off street racers and a variety of other things. I guess it was to make you think your car is slower than it is...?
I had a P1 that was also (my actual car) in Car Magazine in the UK, in the greatest drivers car edition. Best car I ever had except over speed bumps or in multistorey car parks.

I would prefer a type R with dccd or type RA. But the real mcCoy I want would be always the 22B
#746 reporting in Y319TCS 2002 -2006. This was a sti version 5 type R with version 6 drivetrain with a modified 5th gear. Mike Wood told me this.

If a 22B is now going for 80-100k, this car is definately worth 35k and prices will still go up in coming years, future classic for investors
Mad how much the 22b’s are going for these days! Saw one go through auction the other day for £120,000!!! P1 prices seem minuscule comparably but the 22b really is the bad boy of the scooby world!
A fun fact about the P1 is that even the boot mat has the prodrive logo stitched into it

Great review. Reminded me of my brother having a STi WRX Type RA. Stupidly fast car, especially after he took it off the road and started tracking it. With mods it was good for 350KW at the wheels. I can't wait to see more on your Cayman. I just got mine two weeks ago and am waiting for a roadworthy so I can transfer the registration. Those are happening later this week. I was able to get a run through the black spur down near Melbourne and in that environment the Cayman is just sublime, even though mine is 14 year sold now.

@@projectmoneypits5204 for me i prefer the look of the v6 type R, it's lighter better gear ratios and probably cheaper than most P1's now. The only reason to get a P1 would be as an investment which means you'd have to spend a fortune on a mint low mileage one and then not drive it 🤷🏼♂️

prodrive actually detuned a type r and called it p1. detuned ecu, second cat, no ra gearbox, no dccd, visco rear diff instead of plated lsd and abs instead of intercooler spray (ok that makes sense) the bigger front brakes are cool tho. but the type r is better :)

I had a new version 6 WRX STI type R, what a car, type R all the way.
Been driving Subaru for 20 years and had my current one 17. Yes the standard brakes are rubbish hence why I have Brembo all round since 2006. I like P1 but I think if you put an immaculate STi 5/6 or Type R in front of me along with an equally immaculate P1 and said i can pick one to keep it would be the STi. I'll leave the P1 for the speculators.
The P1 is a funny beast, there is no JDM car that is like it, its really a version 5 STI (yes a 1999 model) with a Retna shell on it (as Prodrive thought that having the DCCD and no ABS would cause issues...) so instead the P1 came with single pot rear calipers (V5 STI Type R's had 2 pot) and the crummy 4 pot fronts (unless you ordered the WR version and then you had the works thrown in).
The map was untouched, its basically a JDM map as Prodrive were not allowed to change it, they added broquets to the fuel tank to increase the RON rating and you needed 98+ RON fuel or above to run the car safely.
There were also 2 batches of 500 (originally there was going to be one 500 model run but they all sold out in a week so they decided to build another 500 (which didn't sell as well), this is why there is such a wide range of regiatration numbers (W-51 plates).
A decent enough UK model, only the best will make money, crashed and rusty ones won't, and those rear arches do rust from the inside before they do on the outside (which is why they had a wax treatment, but no one did it...).
