I would have put atleast a killer B pickup, baffle and windage tray in. Never will see it but good piece of mind. Even a better oil pump. Not quite “purity” but oh well

Nice to see some progress guys! I remember rebuilding these a lot back in the mid 2000’s! Funniest story I have is I remember one NA lump I rebuilt, I managed to install the heads on backwards onto the block…. No harm done but funny! My work colleges had a laugh! 😂

How many times a year do you calibrate your torque wrenches? I have a craftsman torque wrench that's from the 60's from my grandfather to far to me.
It's never off more than a half pound testing four times a year! It's definitely not digital!
We do a ton of torquing, working in an a&p engine shop!
You don't EVER want to over torque anything as it's all soft aluminum from the 90's at newest!
If you're not using a torque plate to torque your heads down you are sitting on a ticking time bomb, especially with the post engines like these Subarus and all aircraft engines in GA!😮

Since the last episode I've bought my own classic Impreza ('97 UK2000). It's a clean and original car for its age but your videos have given me the motivation to continue doing the odd jobs it needs. Great to see an update and top work as always

EJ do have engine hoist points. One is AC compressor bracket and other is intercooler bracket.

I didn't know the P1 came with an open deck block. You'd have thought Subaru would have at least put the semi closed deck block in it.
Great work Dan, glad to see this build still getting attention it'll be on the road in no time with the Lada! When are you getting back on the telly? Dave re-runs aren't enough!
Also are you going to be improving the locks/security on this one? I'm sure you know how easy these cars (and most cars this age) are to get into and we don't want any of this goodness going missing! Cheers Leo ;)

Looks great but I'm very concerned about those flywheel bolts!
It looks like you plated them?
Plating bolt significantly lowers the strength of them (i did a similar replate job with my partners ej and i snapped quite a few bolts reinstalling them due to them being weakened)
I would not trust replated flywheel bolts, if they break and that flywheel breaks loose you could loose your legs. Please please replace them with new ones!
I would also replace any mission critical bolts such as engine mounts bolts, case bolts etc. With new.

Those head bolts did not sound very nice being tightened up.. no lube?
Its a shame that its worth more standard than with a upgrade EJ25

I’m actually curious.. what do you know about Subaru head gasket issues besides them becoming a meme?
@@markrwyatt don’t the factory 2.5 na and most Subaru engines have a out line around the head gaskets as an adhesive apparently those give around 150 to 220 kms duno if the turbo motors have same head gasket
And that’s just what I herd is have a factory Subaru head gasket it’s just a matter off time so time bomb
The factory AA483 headgasket that the EJ205/207 used is a MLS. The AA633 that the EJ251/253 used had the issues with the head gaskets.

Why are you putting in an open deck block. Even a semi-closed as a minimun or get a closed deck should be a sure! I'm shocked by the choice you've gone with.
This car is going to be better than the over priced P25 that is anything but a ‘classic’ Subaru 🙄

Given what they're known to do, it makes absolutely no sense using a standard rod and piston. Even a very light upgrade in this department would be very sensible, and to think that the best offerings here are British too. Silly. And when the 257 lets go, which it will, you will end up going 207 anyway.
