A lot of work. When you first heard it back when it came out you thought what the heck is this. You knew you were hearing something out of his world, but you figured it's The Beatles always testing boundaries, and doing good work. It was after I saw all these making of videos with them, and see that what was care free to listen to wasn't care free to make. These guys were pros.
People are insane. I'm in a Floyd tribute myself, and let me tell all of you who think you can do better, try recreating all the sounds that people like The Beatles and Floyd do in the studio live. Good Luck.. These guys are FANTASTIC!! Feel free to post a wedding band that plays stuff like this live (without playing against an MP3 track). Bet you won't find any. Kudos to these guys for playing everything live we never got to hear live when The Beatles were around. Superb job!!
I saw these guys last night in concert. They are amazing! In the first half of the show, they played diffferent Beatle songs, including this one and "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" which was astounding. In the second half they played the entire Abbey Road album! They constantly switched instruments to use the same ones that were used on the original recordings and bought to life music that, let's face it, has never been played live before. If you have a chance to see these guys, do not miss it!
This brought tears to my eyes! There was something peculiar and haunting about the metronomic quality of the rhythm, the strings and horns were wonderful to see perform live, I like the singer's slight gravelly voice very much, and the base player cuts a very fine cornerstone on stage. The attention to detail was also cool in the spoken voice that came in towards the end from the keyboard player. This is a clip I wil enjoy playing again.
Ringo deserves ALOT more credit than he normally recieves. He could keep a great beat, and his fills add alot to all of the songs. A Day In The Life has great drumming, as does Strawberry Fields Forever.
@@jamesoeming5022 Ringo's not at the same level as a Buddy Rich or Peart. But Ringo's drumming worked. And what made it work so well was that Ringo didn't have the ego Paul or John had.
Of course the Beatles didn't. With the sound and computer technology of the time (1967) it would have been near impossible to produce a faithful live version. Once technology improved, talented groups like this could make the attempt. And a very successful attempt I might add.
Wow!!! I get goose bumps. All the technicalities were taken into account. Awesome execution. I had never heard of this band and now I bow to them. Exemplary. The vocalists kept within Lennon's persona all the way thru. Respect.
Javier Gonzalez Uber look they are not the Beatles just want to be! get the real albums! don't bow to them,! please if they were that good how come they, not doing their own album!
Amazing. Simply amazing. Spot on. There is nothing like real strings playing real music. Thank you for the string arrangements, Sir George Martin! And thank you for the songs, music and the memories my wonderful, fab Beatles! And thank you Fab Faux for keeping the dream alive. Sorry, John, the dream is not over...yet! Your music will live forever!
Not just one to pull off. I can't believe they went from I Want To Hold Your Hand to I Am The Walrus. What a contrast, but it is what made the Beatles the true geniuses that they were. Their music is timeless. To this day, new artists are still recording their music. Well done Fab Faux! Thanks for posting.
just when I thought my appreciation for the beatles had reached it's pinicle, it goes up another notch, these people were truly amazing indeed and I salute them, however the four lads that created this incredible sound didn't have the advantage of hearing these musical gems to copy from, they created it themselves and that was 50 yrs ago..
Very true Pat! I guess that's the greatness of the rock and roll movement. Each great performer stands on the shoulders of and are beholden to their heroes and predecessors. The Beatles surely had theirs, but my goodness! talk about going from sending smoke signals to radio waves into the heavens figuratively speaking within a few short years! Beatles FOUR-ever, eh? I do appreciate the Fab Faux because it's obvious that they love and admire the Beatles by their attentiveness to details.
I'll remind everyone that when the Beatles recorded this they did so over many days, even weeks of dozens of overdubs and effects added through the mastery of George Martin. This band just performed this live with no overdubs and did a pretty darn good job. I appreciate the magic of the Beatles as much as anyone but to say "this sucks" is ridiculous. Let's see what you can do live in front of millions of viewers with no overdubs.
John Boutet The overdubs are pre-recorded and synced live . One of the beauties of digital technology. The vocals are tweaked (the drummer's REAL voice is NOT so Lennon like) the "Owhhhhhhhh" is prerecorded and the strings depth, sustain & slapback echo is digitally enhanced. No great magic (although Will is a GREAT bass player) just amazing technology.
+John Boutet Yep, pretty amazing. It's much the same as Brian Wilson's band playing Pet Sounds and SMiLE live on stage & nailing every single note, chord, and vocal part.
I'm so glad you (Fab Faux) included this song in the Easton, PA - Revolver Concert (2nd set). You have made an old classic once again rock!! :) See you again in New Brunswick, NJ!! To others, when someone does justice to Beatles songs - one concert just isn't enough!
Are there different kinds of Beatles fans? Yes. I only live for their music. I don't care who married who when, or the kind of cars they owned. I've gone to see many Beatles tribute cover bands. Last week someone I met a fan who was going to see this band at the Beacon theater in NYC. I blew it off, except for 2 things that stuck in the back of mind; first Will Lee, second they were playing at the Beacon. I can only tell you that watching this video moved me to tears, that's how practically perfect they were. The next time I'll be on line for tickets. Thanks Fab Faux.
OMG..............I am sitting here at my desk listening to The Beatles album, Magical Mystery Tour which features 'I Am The Walrus'. Having had no past reference to what The Beatles would have done while recording this song in a recording studio, now any possible controverted memory of The Beatles is simply replaced with The Fab Faux...............as the Beatles song progresses on, all I can see in my mind is the Fab Faux from this video.................it is simply incredible!
I think the fact that it was done at the ed sullivan theater, makes it all the sweeter, hey that rhymes.can't get that song out of my head.horns were terrific.
Much as we all love and revere the Beatles, remember that they were studio wizards, with huge help from Sir George Martin. Speaking as an old guy who's been a musician since high school, there is a *world* of difference between a track that was assembled over weeks of layering, editing, and re-takes in a studio, vs a once-through live performance. That's the true awe of Fab Faux.
These super talented musicians performed a great concert at The Tabernacle in Atlanta last night. The BEST concert I have ever attended. I have previously been to a Paul McCartney concert and while it was good it obviously did not provide a wonderful selection of all of the Beatles' hits. Close your eyes and listen to the magic! Beatles live!
WOWOWOWOW!! That was better than 90% of the musical guests Dave has on his show these days! I don't believe the Beatles ever played this live, so it's the best live version I've ever heard!
couldn't agree more. Their obvious love for the music shines through and their musicianship is, to put it bluntly, unquestionable. I really don't get all those nasty negative comments. I'm also a professional musician and believe me, I think this band is wonderful!! Beatles were good too.
Excellent!!! I'm sorry I missed the original showing of this. As a Beatle's era person, I can't say how much I enjoy this. The orchestration is fantastic....
Awesome!! I am going to see them, April 8, 2017, at The Fillmore in Philadelphia PA. They usually do a specific album, this time The Beatles Greatest Hits.
Wha? The legendary Michael Brecker is on tenor sax in the horn section! (Bassist Will Lee and he played together in the jazz-rock band, Dreams (Billy Cobham on drums), in the early 1970s.)
They honor the music, greatly. Since 1969 we have been denied a "live" performance of this epochal music and it is grand to know that it can all be heard again, and we are comforted to know that it is not just a creation of George Martin in EMI's studio, but something real. The Fab Faux are not making the Beatles' music "smaller" by so accurately reproducing it, they are instead making it greater by showing that it can live again, safely, in other hands.
This is the most incredible performance...it sounds even better than the original, yet untainted at the same time. I learned of these guys from the Howard Stern Show. I've never been into the Beatles that much (born in '74), but because of the Fab Faux, I'm realizing what geniuses the Beatles were to create....and what geniuses these guys are with their ability to replicate the studio sound of the original.
these guys are seasoned studio musicians. ...a couple of them play in one of the late night talk show bands....they do a really good job. ..i fell they try to keep it as real as can be. ..
Absolutely, Jim. I can't imagine any group of musicians doing a more faithful and accurate version of this, or any other Beatles song. These guys are the cream of the crop and, yes, very seasoned musicians. (Will Lee wouldn't be a part of anything that wasn't top-notch.) I'd love to catch them in concert someday.
Saw them live in LA 2009 and SF this year. Truly a transcendent experience and frankly I was never a big Beatles fan before hearing the Fab Faux live (I was only 4 during Beatlemania). I already bought my airline and show tix for the October 2010 show in LA! BTW we met Rich Pagano (the drummer) in the hotel in LA and he gave me a copy of his "Sugarcane Buttercups" CD....GREAT MUSIC. Check it out.
The Beatles went from “Love Me Do” to “I Am The Walrus” in the span of five years. Amazing! A fantastic cover. A song The Beatles themselves never played live.
The FF specialize in playing songs the Beatles never performed live. Saw them at Berklee few years ago. They did the entire Sgt Pepper album as well as many other tunes, what a great night. Loved every moment of it.
Nobody could do a faithful version of this live - I thought. Bloody knocked it out the park.
I started watching this thinking, what kind of strange fail will this be? And then...
wow. Quite astonishing.

The Analogues do a nice job, too.
Frank Zappa did a pretty decent one in 1988: ua-cam.com/video/X5zgCKMGdgU/v-deo.html
It really makes you appreciate the work the Beatles put into these songs.
And the work George Martin & the Abbey Road engineers put in. Particularly on songs like thid.

Bass player!
All things considered, this performance is totally BOSS.
Agreed
What is astonishing is that the beatles created this from nothing pure creativity. Great tribute to genius.
John to be specific but I agree, that's pure creativity and genius.
On a 4 track!
Ringo deserves ALOT more credit than he normally recieves. He could keep a great beat, and his fills add alot to all of the songs. A Day In The Life has great drumming, as does Strawberry Fields Forever.
Yep he really was a good drummer. Simple complexity sometimes. More of a musical drummer than anything else.
Peace and love!
I like saying, if i want to watch a circus act, I listen to Neal Peart or Buddy rich. When ii want to listen to music, I listen to Ringo.
@@jamesoeming5022 Ringo's not at the same level as a Buddy Rich or Peart. But Ringo's drumming worked. And what made it work so well was that Ringo didn't have the ego Paul or John had.
Ringo kept good time. I never thought Peart was in time. He didn’t really rock. Great guy and drummer, but I would rank Ringo much higher.
WOW, The Beatles didn't ever dream of trying to that one live! You guys NAILED IT! My union jack hat is off to ya.

The best Beatles tribute band in existence... Why? because they can play ALL of their songs well.
Wow! What an amazing performance. Standing ovation.

It's a tradition for my family to see this band every year. They're amazing!

@Paul Callas
Good point! And only four years between the two songs.
How can you not like this?

Absolutely fabulous rendition that would make the Beatles themselves proud. These guys are great!
I don't think anyone could ever top the live performance of this classic Beatles track, than these guys here!
