With the context of having heard this album, Themata seems to be another one of those transitional period albums that I find so fascinating and beautiful. Malina by Leprous was their big transition away from really heavy stuff and it’s by far my favorite album of theirs too. It’s these blends and fusions, like Malina and Themata, that are so amazing. Not the “perfection” artists seek to achieve their whole career, even though that is what they all gradually drift towards as they continue to gain more expertise. There’s always an unfortunate disconnect between the artist and what society finds valuable about their work. But if the creative process works well enough to give us Themata, then, well... never change, creative process. Never change.
the band (twitter acount) actually responded to me on twitter when i asked about this, unfortunately my request for a remastered version on Spotify was denied.
+Tonya Lynn - I also get a vibe of Godsmack in Featherweight, ~ 19:30 or so. Like "Sick of Life". Obviously not the same styles, just a hint of it, in my opinion.
They started as a Nirvana cover band. And one of them is in Deft Ones, a Deftones cover band. They also had a hand in providing drum and bass parts for Pendulum’s Hold Your Colour (so, drum & bass and dubstep as well).
still today, u won't find many organic, heavily fat, grungy non nonsense listenable metal. Karnivool are awesome and persona, 17 years on is still one of my fav albums that inspire me.
Never knew this existed but I've been listening to them for four or five years, glad I found it. It reminds me of Themata most. (Album). I want them to your in California!
Marisa Veilleux good call....we have another band that was really similar same time period called " the butterfly effect " - they were awesome and their album " begins here" has alot of parallels with persona and sound awake. Thanks for sharing this! Like others, never even knew this existed. After they took Themata off Spotify, I've been coming to UA-cam for my Themata fix, which has become my favorite album. And then to find out my favorite album has more songs available, it's a dream come true! When their new music doesn't do it for you, you dig deep in the archives. It's the follow up album I always wanted! What are the chances. I'm ecstatic! Happy Valentine's 2020 🤘
@@KirillTr it sucks they have removed this album from their own youtube, spotify, apple music. etc i found them in 2002 and its like they want this album to vanish
Holy shit. Been listening to them for nearly a decade and this is the first time im hearing this. So much heavier. What a vibe. Thanks for the upload man!
@Romy Taylor yes the really long one. So raw. Just my opinion though i just recently got into harsher vocals and such im sure there are equally sick if not sicker that i have not heard yet.
They played Fade during the streaming concert, and I thought it was a new song from the 4th album lol. And I’ve been listening to them for about as long as you.
I purchased this CD from Sanity in Midland in 2001 (remember when record stores had a local bands section?). Still my favorite VOOOL album. Good ol WA boys
Actually after checking their discography they had an album in 1999 titled KARNIVOOL. Then this five track EP. PERSONA. Then THEMATA. Then SOUND AWAKE. Then ASYMETRY.
Why isn't this on Spotify? Fuck this reminds me of a holiday I took 5 years ago. This EP was the only thing I listened to while I was away. Brings me back everytime
I’ve never heard this album before, but listening to this, I never realized how hard they were earlier on. I’m getting heavy Korn and Tool vibes from this stuff, and it makes me realize how they actually mellowed out a little bit with Sound Awake and Asymmetry (although that’s when they definitely reached their peak)
It's on Spotify now! I just discovered this EP on their Spotify page. I've been listening to Karnivool since like 2011 and didn't know about this release, it was a nice surprise finding it
This is my mind and soul, forever number 1 in my mind, this one is coming in my coffin lol, hey IAN when are you guys going to bloody play "some more of the same", it's hurting my voice screaming it out at ya gigs, tassie trip any time soon?
Compilation Kingz dont get too carried away with hearing Assymetry - couple of sweet tunes but .....Sound Awake and Themata works of art - Stay Metal 😈
Nice to hear for sure, but it's good that they have grown and matured as a band and moved away from this sound. They evolved to a progressive band with a unique sound, still waiting for the new album tho ...
I swear their new album has been almost ready for years now! 3ish maybe even 4 years ago they played a small concert in Perth showcasing some new and upcoming songs which was absolutely epic, but I've been waiting to hear those songs again for a looong ass time
I think Themata is my least favorite, i however also really like it. Asymetry is definitely a diferent feel and i didnt like it at first as much as sound awake but then i fell in absolute love with it.
1. "Fade" 0:00
2. "Da-Reka" 4:51
3. "Headcase" 11:10
4. "Featherweight" 16:20
5. "Some More of the Same" 24:05
thx sir!

Yesterday I heard the song Fade for the first time in their live stream, amazed there is a whole EP that's not on Spotify.

it's like rage against the machine meets KoRn and tool or something. I blown away over here .. freakin amazed.
