I didnt think anyone could match Billy Paul's performance on this song. But Hall and Oates did a fsntastic job with it. Darrell's voice was perfect for this song. Thanks so much fir this. 👍 ❤
When my son was 13, I took him to his first real concert, Hall and Oates for his birthday. For his 25 birthday, he took me to see them at the Majestic theater in Dallas. ❤❤❤❤
Hi ! ya ! well it s a great classic everyone knows the feeling we got from it is the original and nothing can give you the same feeling ! but it s a good cover that s done from a great singer of course ! now i feel i must listen to the original ! lol ! thanks for playing this !
Great Song, Heard it for the first time as a kid in the 70's fell in love it! Daryl has a voice that is perfect on this one! Of course been a Hall and Oats fan for years!
What a fantastic version this is. The original by Billy Paul was one of the very first Reactions I sent to Harri, such a beautiful song. Thanks John and Harri.
Yes, was going to suggest this! I've only heard the studio version, which is fantastic. Sounds very much like the Righteous Bros. version, except they kick it up a little toward the end.
Just damn! I've been enjoying these guys since they hit the music scene in the late 70's and they can still give me chills when Daryl and the band goes off like this!
From the 2003 album, Live in Concert" this was first released by Billy Paul in 1972., a massive hit. The sax is so captivating throughout this exceptional song about an extramarital affair. One of Darryl's best vocal performances, impassioned and pleading, aching with pain and pleasure. It captures the song's sexy, slightly tongue in cheek storyline perfectly. The instrumentation is fantastic and captures your attention from the first note. Hall and Oates come by music honestly, for the most part because of their adoration and respect for Philadelphia soul. Absolutely a masterpiece. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and John. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
Such a great reaction - as always. I grew up in Toledo, Ohio and because we are between Detroit and Cleveland most bands passed us by - but to their absolute credit - Hall and Oates always played Toledo. I saw them twice. The H20 tour around 1981 or 82 and the Big Bam Boom tour. I instantly crushed on Hall's voice. I was so lucky to have them as foundational music. I also really love the song Open All Night from the H20 album.. even at 12 years old, hearing that song, I knew this guy was an incredible singer. Thanks for reacting to this one.
During a visit to PA over US Thanksgiving weekend in 1972, I took my then girlfriend to hear Billy Paul sing this at a club in Philadelphia. Of course, rarely does a cover do full justice to the original. However, Hall & Oats in this case is an exception to that rule. Great recording, stirring great memories.
I am so glad you reacted to this ! I love H and O's cover of this classic. There is another video from 2003 of Hall and Oates doing this live, and if you can believe it, it's even better than this one! Daryl is one of the best.
The Billy Paul version was popular during my young years. Hall and Oates did a fabulous recreation of this song. I lived in the Detroit area during the Motown years - what a time to be alive.
Man I had forgotten about this rendition from Hall and Oats. You can never go wrong with them guys.❤ this song brings back a flood of memories. I had just become a teenager when this song came out. Many slow dances and make out sessions came out of this song. Good choice and good reaction.
Hall & Oates were & are amazing. Every song they came out with was a massive hit. They didn't have a bad song. Loved them then & now. Love your reactions Harri always so heartfelt & emotional.❤❤
Ok I have to admit to knowing this song and the lyrics. God as my witness I didn’t know these guys did it. I didn’t know white guys could have this depth of soul. I learn something new everyday.
Darryl killed it, tho not surprised. One of the greatest singers in music history. Shout out to everyone involved making this a fantastic cover. I always dug Philly Soul especially late 60s.
John, I have always loved this song and had never heard this rendition. Hall and Oates never disappoint and certainly don’t with this. Harri does a great analysis as usual. Thanks Harri and John. 🌺✌️
Daryl Hall always puts 110% in to any song he sings. This cover is no exception. One of his best is his song, Any Time You Go Away which he sings on Live from Daryl's House. If you want to hear it, look up Daryl Hall and Travis McCoy Every Time You Go Away. Daryl and the whole band including Travis Mc Coy, his guest, do not disappoint. It's just outstanding.
@@Cosmo-Kramer there are SO MANY more great performances from that amazing show. I've spent a significant amount of time watching the original episodes over the years. Daryl Hall's band makes every one of his guests sound better than ever.
I've never head their rendition before. It's great. Thanks for reacting to this. I wasn't a big fan of the original, but I love this version. I know you're an ELO fan. Its roots go back to a band called The Move. Check out a great song by The Move, "Fields of People, the full version". You'll love it.
You popped up in my feed this morning & I have subscribed. Love this version & the version that Daryl sings from London. If you have not done so already, check out their album My Kind of Soul; you will love it!
John - Aside from an outstanding performance, I certainly appreciate your 'wisdom' in choosing this song sung by two Philly Soul singers of their time😁. The other is Billy Paul, whose performance I thought could not be matched but Hall and Oates got it done in style. Harri, You review was outstanding. Could you be a Philly-wannabe??? Hmmm😎
Dave, thanks. TWO Philly natives (both in the R&R Hall of Fame) covering The Delfonics' "Didn't I Blow Your Mind." Todd Rundgren & Daryl Hall:ua-cam.com/video/DCCAqT3zgFI/v-deo.html.
He has a TV program and invites his friends over to jam! His house is a big white house he remodeled himself with alot of property! He also feeds them all! Libra. LOL!
The most disrespected, underrated duo/band of all time. Yes, Daryll has both a great voice and is a great singer. Overlooked is the composition, arrangement, production, and ability to choose the best musicians. If you gave Steely Dan 5 instruments and 3 minutes to do a R&B/pop song, they wouldn't do better than about 10 Hall and Oates songs.
I like Hall, but the best version of this classic is the original by Billy Paul and the cover by the Dramatics which for me personally might be as good as Billy Paul's original.
The Dramatics' version features Willie Ford and the great L.J. Reynolds. I've wanted to request L.J.'s more recent cover of "Come Get to This" for Harri to react to. Something for a future month, perhaps.
This was good, but this song is one of those songs that can never be done better than the original ........ in this case Billy Paul. Nobody can best Billy Paul's rendition of a song written by Kenny Gamble, Leon Huff, and Cary Gilbert in 1972. Billy Paul just has a way of making you feel the helpless desperation af an extra marital affair that neither partner can control. Thanks for reacting Harri.
Harry, I have always enjoyed your content and point of view. However, as an ex-wife of an adulterer, I take exception to your description of this as a "love song". Anything but. 0:20
this is music that no one can date just music at its best
I didnt think anyone could match Billy Paul's performance on this song. But Hall and Oates did a fsntastic job with it. Darrell's voice was perfect for this song. Thanks so much fir this. 👍 ❤
Daryl Hall the king of the outros
Boy can sing
I adore Daryl Hall!! His voice is still perfection to this day at 77!
When my son was 13, I took him to his first real concert, Hall and Oates for his birthday. For his 25 birthday, he took me to see them at the Majestic theater in Dallas. ❤❤❤❤
Thanks John , great choice, and thanks Harri , your reaction was everything the performance deserved.

I was born in Philadelphia and so proud of the music that came out of there ❤
I never thought any cover could come close to the original! Man, I love this version! Thank you HARRI! I wouldn't have heard this if not for you!!!!
OMG BRILLIANT, I'm going to watch it again❤.thanx for a great reaction Harri
Great Song, Heard it for the first time as a kid in the 70's fell in love it! Daryl has a voice that is perfect on this one! Of course been a Hall and Oats fan for years!

Harri, you also need to listen to there version of You Lost that loving feeling magical.

Slapped me right back into the 80s. Wow. Love Hall and Oates.

Great song great cover!! Blue eyed soul at its very best!!!!
So glad you experienced this performance. It's magic.
One great Philly Soul singer covering another! Outstanding! Way to go, John Chu! And excellent reaction, Harri!
👍👍👍
Daryl Hall is a great singer. His Mom is a vocal coach and has taught him since age 3.

Blue eyed soul at it's best!
Thanks Harri
I've always loved this song but I never thought Hall and Oates could carry this off. Boy was I wrong. They were great! Tha ks Harri❤
It don't get any better than that. I had the pleasure to see Hall and oats back in the 80s and they were AMAZING.
Enjoyed this reaction, Harri! Darryl Hall with John Oates and on his own stands heads and shoulders above so many of today's vocalists.
Harry, what I like about you is your love of the music and your respect for the level of performances you react to. Keep on keepin’ on buddy.
Harri......so proud to see this being reviewed by someone who will be fair about Hall's accomplishment with this song...
Check out Daryl's solo album "Soul Alone". His single "I'm in a Philly Mood" is my favorite. Please react!

I agree this is a classic tune and Daryl Hall did a great job with this rendition!!💖💖
Great song choice! ❤❤
oh yes !! Fire !!
Stellar!!! 👋👋👋👋 Thanks John Chu. 👍

He has reacted to a few, you can search for them in his video archives.

Great rendition by Darryl, but I will always be drawn to the smoothe studio version that came out in 1972 with Mr. Billy Paul.

Darryl Hall is from the Philadelphia area...definitely influenced by Philly Soul
you need to hear the Billy Paul original

An even longer & better version of the same song was done by Daryl Hall at John Jay College.
Theme song from the graduate ? A cheating song or long-term marriage love?
"Mrs Robinson" is the song you're thinking of from The Graduate...
(by Simon & Garfunkle)
I thought they met at 6:30?
Why did he change their meeting time!? It's 6:30, man, not 7:30! Wonderful rendition otherwise, hehehe.

Billy Paul's version still ranks superior
Yall better stop playing wit Hall n Oats.
