I just bought a 2024 CX-50 Turbo, and something to be aware of is that these updates were apparently only applied to cars manufactured after November 2023. Mine was manufactured in August 2023, so I’m assuming that mine will have the original steering and suspension configuration (it’s being delivered from out of state). Which was a little bit disappointing for me when I discovered it after I’d already made the purchase… I love a sporty vehicle, don’t get me wrong, but I’m concerned the ride quality will be a bit too rough for my liking on those 20-inch wheels and low-profile tires. The steering is less of a concern for me, I’ve had several Mazdas at this point and heavy steering is exactly what I expect and love about these cars.

Super useful. Sounds like either year would be good, but I would probably like the heavier steering as mazda3 owner. Looking forward to upgrading to a CX-50.

    How is the cabin noise?
We tested a CX 50 back in August 2022 and after months of testing, we got a Buick Enclave 2023 because expecting a second kid, a third row was a must and we loved how quiet the ride was.
I don't really remember the cabin noise in the CX 50 though. Thoughts? I hear the CX 5 is better with dampening the outside noise vs the CX 50.

Cabin noise isn’t bad. Older Mazdas had issues with this. And so do my sports cars. Never had an issue with road noise in the cx50 nor have any of my passengers

I have the 2024 CX-50 TPP in terracotta with the softer shocks/retuned electric steering. The steering, braking, handling, shock tuning are all excellent. This is the 4th Mazda I have owned in my life and by far the best. My only gripe is unusually high road noise at highway speeds (ie - faster than posted limits I might add). Also, running 91/93 octane is what this turbo likes. I run 91 + some Lucas octane booster and it runs sweet.

The CX-50 already had lighter steering than the CX-5, so this doesn't seem like a move in the right direction (for me).

Can you or a knowledgeable viewer describe exactly what is meant by “heavy” steering vs light? Also can you describe more what you feel/mean with the “loading up as you put weight over the front wheels”? By body control?
I’m sure all this is elementary for driving enthusiasts!
I’m in the market after driving the same old car for many years. Just test drove a ‘24 CX50 and even I could feel the road in a noticeably different way than the new Camry I drove later.

He calls the steering much, much lighter...Then goes on to say there have been only very minor changes..........I had a new CX30.....Quickly got rid of it because the RIDE was killing Me.......Most especially the Drivers seat with enourmous high and hard side bolsters which were cutting into My hamstrings........I am very interested in the 25 Hybred CX50.......If it has a much improved ride and dramatically improved drivers seat I'll be getting one.....If I do I'll be using 235/65's on 17 " wheels...BBS.....to get the best ride.....Paul

If a car is designed to do off-road or occasional off-road, the last thing you want is heavy steering. Lighter steering is better when you are trying to traverse rocky or uneven surfaces because steering feel less wobbly and jarring.

I found my CX30 turbo steering reflects what kinda terrain I am driving on. For light off roading on gravel/little mud the steering is much lighter. Same response in snow. It usually feels heavier on roads and parking lots.

I hate te trend toward light steering even for daily duity.
Light steering makes lane drift a lot easier if you have one hand on the wheel and arent paying a ton of attention.
With heavier steering you can relax a bit more.

Not true... go test drive the 2024 Honda Pilot.... excellent execution of light steering. On the highway, it tracks super straight with no steering corrections needed.

    • @ObtuseRubberGoose628
      @ObtuseRubberGoose628 4 місяці тому +1

@@VG22. I admit I haven't driven one but most cars track straight with a decent alignment. It's more of a one hand on the wheel at 12 or 9 o'clock problem. Slight movements of the wheel are easy especially when you are pulling down on the wheel as you would at 12 o'clock or asymmetrically as at 3 or 9 o'clock. Ive gotten used to this but it still bothers me.
In my experience the only way to semi relax with these light fast ratio eps systems is to hold the wheel at 9 and 3 which is propped but also not very relaxed.
Additionally I don't find heavier steering to really be a downside in any respect. There isn't a car I've ever really driven that I thought was so high effort that it bothered me. The opposite isn't true.

@@ObtuseRubberGoose628 I agree... I get what youre saying. I do find putting the car in sports mode kinda help with that.. since the steering wheels in most cars become artificially heavy with sports mode engaged.

They have nailed the every persons sports car since the late 80s.
