      I like the fact they have updated the rendering system even for 2.93, despite 3.0 getting Cycles X which is going to be a game-changer.

    Hi, it's a nice feature BUT I recommend to check this feature just before the final render ! BECAUSE I experienced that, if it's 'ON' , and you render some stills while working on the scene and you change for example the world HDRI, you won't see an update in the next still renders UNTIL you change something in the render settings, to force the cache to rebuild.
    So beware of, that the cache isn't useful, when still doing test renderings.

    • @karijoart
      @karijoart 3 роки тому +8

      It is a beta version so there can be some bugs. I tried switching HDRis in a test scene, from a day light one to a night time one, and it worked in my test. If you find a bug you can report it

    Sounds great, why wouldnt this feature be on permanently? Even if its off, rendering a frame would use the same amount of memory to calculate the scene for a frame, wouldnt it?
    So if its on, its going to use the memory also, but just calculate it once right?

    • @_bug56
      @_bug56 3 роки тому +3

      With the checkbox on, it stays in memory. With the checkbox off, it's likely the data is purged once the frame is rendered. I'm guessing you wouldn't want it to be on all the time because if you have a weighty scene, it wouldn't make sense to have 2GB of data sitting in your memory doing nothing while you're just modeling and not rendering.

    • @_bug56
      @_bug56 3 роки тому +4

      Also another comment mentioned that when you change certain settings, the scene needs to be rebuilt otherwise your cached scene will not reflect your actual settings. Seems like this feature is meant for when you're done with everything and are only in a rendering workflow

      From the description: "For Eevee and Workbench this option is not available, however these engines
      will now always reuse the depsgraph for animation and multiple view layers. This can significantly speed up rendering." I don't know how the depsgraph works but it seems even though it is not available for Eevee it is also getting a speed up.

I can not see yet how it's can save me time if I have to look after it for his crashing ;-p

      it seems to work when rendering on the CPU when I tried. After clicking on the persistent data checkbox, you must first render once to cache the render data, and on the second render you will see the speed improvement. Or maybe your scene has a fast scene build time so you can't see a difference?

    • @karijoart
      @karijoart 3 роки тому

      Hello this feature will use the memory of your graphic card if you render with the graphic card, and your computer memory if you render with the CPU. In the video it says "at the cost of increased memory usage" which means that the feature will utilize some of the memory when enabled. Not that you need to "increase the memory" like you asked. Hope it helps
