WOW! Thanks so much I have been fumbling around sporadically in FCPX for a while now I even paid BECTU for a course, I learnt more in the past 15 minutes than I have in the past year. Great presentation. THANK YOU.
You made my week today! I went through a 1 intensive week where I barely slept and Bam! 1. You've shown me the Lips Synch (I saved 3days) 2. How to fade out so easily (1 spent 1 hour for each clip to do less 10s of actions with your tips) You've earned my respect and my subscription! Thank you so much
This is fantastic information....directly to the point (most videos waste the first 2 minutes explaining what you already know), easy to follow and very useful. Great job, man!!!!
holy shit, i use b/n/a constantly to chop up my footage but honestly never thought of using cmd+b to cut through multiple. that's the best thing I picked up from this video! You rock.
Synced audio?!?!?! What?! That is amazing!! I have literally been editing a piece for hours doing this manually this week!! THANK YOU. As a self taught FCPX user these tips are invaluable!!
Thanks for sharing some very useful tips. I have just made the move from Adobe Premiere Elements to Final Cut Pro X. Though there is a learning curve, I am thankful that many functions, etc. carry over. However, I did not know the first 2 things on your list and now, I feel so enriched. I will be video editing tomorrow, so these functions will be incredibly helpful. Thanks, again, for sharing. 😀
One of my most favorite keyboard shortcuts is the one where I replace a clip on the timeline. Select the clip to replace on the timeline and then select a clip from the Browser. Opt-R replaces the selected timeline clip as a Replace from Start (maintaining the length of the timeline clip), or Shift-R which does a Replace (browser clip length overrides timeline length). Also, yes, you can Shift-B (Blade) the primary storyline or multiple selected clips at the playhead, or simply Shift-CMD-B blades everything at the playhead.
My biggest shortcut tip is that I've created custom keys for clip speed. I've got Control+Option + 2 (200%) or 3 (for 400%) or 4 for (800%). I then have Control+Option plus 5 as 50% (i.e. Instant Slow Mo). With the same Control+Option, I can also use left arrow key to reverse clip. These shortcuts help HEAPS for fast action sequences.
Man that sync audio option that you explained is a lifesaver. I just got lav mic that I was planing to use on a separate phone while filing and I was already worried about how the hell am I going to sync audio and video from 2 devices. Thanks a lot!
Great video Harvey, but I have a small tip for you to. Dont copy stuff off other projects, just hit the ‘Save effects preset’ button and re-use your settings super easy. Save’s me tons of time and dont need to open old projects for it.
great video with great practical tips! I know this is old but it might be helpful for you anyway :) what I recommend to you is getting an audio plugin or stand-alone program to help you clean your voice. mostly the mouth noises we make with our saliva. they're really noticeable when we use compressors and limiters to raise the volume ;).
awesome! just transfering over from almost fluid in my pc premiere workflow into being totally lost in space with osx and fcpx. seriously, thanks for putting in the time to share your tips! //f
If you want to turn down audio in a specific area without using keyframes you can use the range selector tool (Shortcut = r) and then select the place you want to edit and then just turn down the volume in that area. Pretty handy in my opinion. (Hope this makes sense)
Great video Harv! many new time savers! If you would live around the corner I would have spend the gained minutes on buying you a drink! Keep it coming!!
Great job man I actually learned a couple things! I was honestly expecting to know most of them judging from the first couple tricks you showed. FCPX is a beast!
Is this a newer version of Final Cut? I have FCP 10 but my color correcting and dials don't look like yours. Also having trouble installing the adjustment layer plugin
Pleased I've found your channel Harv! Just switched over to Final Cut Pro X from Premiere so I'm trying to take in as much info as I can. I'm also just starting to ramp up my freelance video production work and your videos look so good. Looking forward to seeing what else I can learn from you.
Thanks Harv - brilliant video. Some of these I knew, but I would say about 1/2 of them I did not. As I'm working to get up a few videos a week, I'm always looking to increase my workflow. Thanks again for these great tips. My favourite was the keyframes and the fade out effect. This was poignant because I was fighting with keyframes this morning to make a video. All the best, Cheers Rick
THANK YOU!! I'm just working on family projects but I was really looking for something make easier and faster my work in FCPx :) More similar videos pls!
Really cool video. When you got to the audio part though I was thinking WHOA... I have no idea how to tweak my audio to sound good across all devices. You didn’t mention it at the time... but do you have a video covering this topic?
OH MY GOD YOU CAN MAKE YOUR OWN SHORTCUTS. I have been wanting to do that! Because it’s like three buttons to delete the right side of a clip or delete the left side of a clip. But I work in bed and I don’t want to be moving both of my hands around if I don’t need to. I actually thought about buying one of those controls things so I could just map different functions to this controller and I could just have it under the covers or off to the side or wherever my arm is most comfortable at the time
Excellent video and super helpful. I’ve done a lot of audio and photo editing, some video editing but getting into it more for my channel. I’m liking FCP a lot and want to be as fast and efficient as I am with Photoshop. Thanks for the great video! I’ll have to check out more.
Where do I find the sharpening feature? I repeated 2:35 -2:43 several times and can't see what you're hitting to bring up "sharpen". Thanks if you or anyone happen to read this. xoxo
Super helpful, thanks. I have just started using FCPX, on an older version as I don't have a Mac that can handle High Sierra just yet and FCPX would crawl using that on mine, so I am on FCPX 10.2.2 on El Capitan and it all works fine (for me - but I suspect not for you haha). I have subscribed, and will have a lok at your other video tuts over the coming days. 👍
Enjoy guys :)
Harv Video/Audio Stuff I really like everything you publish on UA-cam - but this was really spot-on and crisp! Great! Thumbs up! 🙂
WOW!
Thanks so much I have been fumbling around sporadically in FCPX for a while now I even paid BECTU for a course, I learnt more in the past 15 minutes than I have in the past year.
Great presentation. THANK YOU.
Can anyone post a download link for the adjustment layer plugin. Please.
Harv Video/Audio Stuff Great video dude! Could you send me a link to the adjustment layer plugins you use? Don't wanna download a dodgy one lol.
thank you :)
You made my week today! I went through a 1 intensive week where I barely slept and Bam!

So nice to hear, glad I could help!

Great job, man!!!!
holy shit, i use b/n/a constantly to chop up my footage but honestly never thought of using cmd+b to cut through multiple. that's the best thing I picked up from this video! You rock.
Same. My videos have two sources of audio and I've been cutting the video and the two audio tracks one at a time lol
Synced audio?!?!?! What?! That is amazing!! I have literally been editing a piece for hours doing this manually this week!! THANK YOU. As a self taught FCPX user these tips are invaluable!!
the adjustment layer clip is the ultimate life saver!! you're awesome!!

EASE IN KEYFRAMES 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
Searched EVERYWHERE for this, you sorcerer!!
One of the best tips/ shortcut video for Final Cut Pro x! Great job man!
That is amazing! A lot of the shortcuts I already knew but you showed me how to put them to good use 🤘

@1:33, you absolutely called it. MIND BLOWN. Thank you.
How am I just finding your channel! UA-cam, this man needs to get featured!
So kind of you, many thanks 😊
I actually got a lot from this. Thank you!
Super practical. I am relatively new and these will be easy habits to adopt. It helps to see how experienced editors do things. Thanks Harv
Found a few useful shortcuts in here. Nicely done!
My biggest shortcut tip is that I've created custom keys for clip speed. I've got Control+Option + 2 (200%) or 3 (for 400%) or 4 for (800%). 1 minute in and I did not know that! Brilliant video. More please!
Edit.... a more in depth video on improving audio in fcpx please!
Added to the list :) many thanks
yes please!
yeah please make one on audio improvement tut on fcpx ASAP
@@HarvVideoAudioStuff Would also love this. Thanks!
Man that sync audio option that you explained is a lifesaver. I just got lav mic that I was planing to use on a separate phone while filing and I was already worried about how the hell am I going to sync audio and video from 2 devices. Thanks a lot!
CMD T to add a transition control D to alter the length of a clip to a set time
First time FCPX user here! These are super helpful, thanks man!

Sync audio is brilliant, how did I not know this!
Thanks Moss
Ha ha not the first time I’ve been compared to moss, he’s pretty cool

Harv, your efficiency and competence is impressive.
Excellent, I’m an old dog Avid editor but from watching this video I have to give Fcpx a try.
Epic! I’m thinking of switching from Premiere to FCPX so this was super handy! 🙏🏻🎬
Super helpful tips! Definitely gonna adopt these to speed up the post production process!
It is not 2021, thank yo brotha. This video really helped me out!
You changed my life with tip 1 already... how did I not know that??
Very nice! Learned a few new tricks. Thanks!
Great Video! Some refreshers and some new bits! Thanks!
i've been editing and adding effects directly on clips for 5 years. that adjustment layer tip, might just save me a few hours every project.
Omg, I was synchronizing the audio and video manually all the time 🤦♂️
haha same here!
mmeee tooooo! #TimeSaver!
I still do for my podcast, this feature doesn't seem to work very well for 30 minute+ clips.
And this is 2 years ago, and I still did the same mistake 😥
Such an awesome video. Thank you for the fast pace, great tips, and quality content w/ audio and visuals!!
Harv this was so awesome! Thanks for sharing your tips and tricks 👍🏻
Thanks man. Good stuff
Great job man I actually learned a couple things! I was honestly expecting to know most of them judging from the first couple tricks you showed. FCPX is a beast!
Great video! please make an in-depth video about color grading
Great videos, super handy. many thanks
Dude, LOVE it! (And yes I knew half of those... but the other half were (as you Brit’s would say) Brilliant! THANKS! and as as usual... YOU ROCK, Sir!
Is this a newer version of Final Cut? I have FCP 10 but my color correcting and dials don't look like yours. Also having trouble installing the adjustment layer plugin
Mostly mine are the same but am trying to find where he got "sharpen" from xoxo
i have exactly the same question. My fcpx is 10.3.4 and the dials and color correcting look very different from Harv's
Really great video, I'd love to see more Final Cut Pro/workflow stuff from you. I have learned a lot from your channel.
Many thanks, I’ll see what I can do :) happy for any suggestions
At 7:48- needed that smooth Ease, TY. I will use that a LOT.

This is just brilliant! Thanks a lot!!
Glad I could help! 👍🏻
some of my favorite quick keys are option+ left bracket and option+ right bracket, to trim the clip beginning/end to playhead
Great tutorial. Thanks a lot Harv
