Just got the e revo largely based on your one year review. Also enjoyed your ramp video. (45 degree) built one just like it. Keep them coming sir! Great material
After 6 months of owning my e Revo 2.0 both stock servos finally went out 2 weeks ago. I replaced them with two 1256tg’s per your video recommendation. They work great so far - big time improvement. Thanks man!!
Great video. Informative and not boring. It's what I was looking for also. Would like to see any more E-Revo vids and info. Just found several E-Revo vids in your library. Keep em coming! Subscribed!
Thank you SO much for all this advice, explanation, ect. about fixing/upgrading the Erevo VXL 2.0. Really appreciate it and continue making these awesome videos!
I always drill (4j holes in my tires about 1/8” bit, it allows the water to leave using centrifugal force, the reason you blow out tires is the water inside will use that same centrifugal force with that mass of water inside the tire and tear it apart. Then you can run in the water all you want, just take it for a quick couple spins down the road or driveway before bringing it inside to dissipate the water from inside the wheels. Great videos!
Thank you for this video. Customer input here with a e revo 2.0. The stock Traxxas servos died on me 4 hours out of the box. I purchased a Savox SB-2273SG servo recommended to me by the hobby shop. So far it's done well by itself without a second servo. Didn't think about the need for two servos regarding the extra weight till I watched this video, again thanks for the input.
Outsourced RC Your commentary on running RC's through mud and water was spot on. I think it's up to the individual end user to decide, but I can't see the value of running these models through mud and water for a few minutes, and then having to do an eternity of maintenance. It was never worth it for me. I use one savox 1230 servo in both my Erevo 1.0 and my Summit, and it turns the tires effortlessly. The only limitations coming from the servo saver. I would bet that the BEC in your stock ESC is getting strained by those two servos.
I just put up a video of me testing one 1256 vs two. I've talked to people that have tested one 1230 vs two and we all agreed that two servos are better than one even if that one is a 500 oz servo.
Nice video! I did the same, except with the waterproof savox servos. I don't typically run in water either, but just wanted to stick on the safe side. Heres a tip: put some small squares of electrical tape over the holes on the inside of each wheel, then water won't be able to get in and ruin the foam or fill the tire up with water. It really works well! Thanks :P
I think my servo's just went to my E-Revo 2.0. I was waiting on a replacement tire so it's been sitting on the bench for the last week. I installed the new tires and was going to run in the yard but it seems I have very little steering. I did align them out of the box. If I turn full left or right and front tires move very little. How are those servo's holding up? I don't want to drop a set of stock ones in only to fail again. All always seems you always have a video for my needs. Thanks
Upgrade them. I would upgrade them. These servos have been holding up great. The only thing I would change is get the water proof ones if you need them.
I did replace both of them with Savox SW0230 waterproof servo's. I followed your video for the install. Happy to have the E-Revo up and running again. My favorite R/C.
Just brought home my new EREVO. Out of the box I noticed the front right wheel is toed out. Do I need to adjust the steering rod? I tried adjusting the trim but then both front wheels look toed out.
Thanks. What do you recommend? More power e.g. 2x 20kg (my choice) or a faster one (so 0,10s to 60° at 6V - rather than orig. 0,17s for 60° )? What is more important, power (kg) or speed (or both ;-) ? I also drive the Revo 2.0 Would you today - 3 years later - still recon 2 Servos and not 1? I am also a fan of symmetric things. However, Kevin Talbog for example swapped it for one 25kg servo (Power HD LW-25MG) - you might have heard of him. Thanks !
Power is more important than speed for me. It allows for more control. Fast but weak servos on a heavier RC makes it handle poorly. You won’t have the power to turn the wheels when you need it, and at higher speeds a fast Servo makes it harder to make small changes in your steering.
@@outsourcedrc Thanks, that's what I supposed. Actually as one of my stock (9kg) broke I did not have a replacement at home so while waiting for the new ones (to order now) I drove yesterday with one 9kg. Well, a bit "lazy"/slow but still running. So having one e.g 25kg(+) Servo would be - I think - also good to drive. Let's see how it works out.. Many greetings around the plante from Germany to Australia ;-) Benjamin
Just to mention, the old weak 2075 TRX Servos can be recognized by the white driveshaft. The new revised (and reliable) 2075 TRX Servos can be recognized by the grey driveshaft. All newer EREVOS got those servos.
I bought a used 2.0 yesterday. Kevin Talbot says its a nightmare to keep that thing running....is that true? I could change it against an Arrma but I think the Revo is superior and not as primitive. Also the Arrma needs a lot of hop ups too to be durable. The guy who sold it to me said the most problems (with diffs) come from the brutal self righting system. So I won't use it. Also, when I do not fully accelerate on asphalt, will my diffs hold up then?
I dont think its a nightmare to keep running. I think he just abuses his RC's like crazy. I dont actually watch his videos so I dont know for sure what he is doing. Its actually very rare for me to break anything on it. I dont use the self righting and I dont have any issues with the diffs. I dont think you can accelerate too fast for it, unless you are doing standing backflips all the time.
This goes against the set up method recommended by Traxxas. Have you tried setting up your 2.0 like they recommend? (Page 28 E-Revo 2.0 manual) I definitely agree with you in that 2 servos is the best way to go.
Had to replace mine today too. I also went with two servos again because of the reasons you stated. I didn't get Savox but got a less expensive set at 20kg each that I saw mentioned in the E-Revo groups. Glad I got it back working but plan to sell it.
Jeffrey Allen yea I’m pretty new to the hobby and just don’t know what to go with I thought about buying the traxxas 400 servos just because of there support behind their products and I have had 2 motors and esc replaced for free even though both times it was probably my fault
These servos are holding up great. I dont even have a BEC installed. Savox also offers a waterproof version of this servo for like $10 more each. I forget the number for it, but it has the exact same stats.
Hmmm... I assume that 2 servos would mean less strain on the servos individually am I wrong? I see people putting 1 in but shit, if each servo is only dealing with a 50% load at all times these aftermarket servos should last forever
So why does it look like your 2.0 is out of the box and its needing new servos? My arrma kraton has been out all of 4 trips and been around my yard a handful of times and looks like its been to hell and back...still runnin great have only replaced 1 lower a arm.
I’m in the market for an e revo, I’ve seen that the v2 is much better than the v1, is that true? Why doesn’t this guy have millions of subscribers, great video!
I have both and I love them both, but the 2.0 is way better once you do a few upgrades. Once you put the limiting straps on, swap out the servos, and learn how to not blow tires, it's pretty damn tough. The V1 can't take the punishment the 2.0 can. I have a pile of V1 parts in my shop. I do need that find a solution to ripping rod ends off the Pushrods, but I have only done it twice so it's a minor issue.
I only run it on one servo but that one is really powerful, like 300+ torque per in^2, I would have gotten a second one but couldn’t afford it lol. It does make a difference but not a big one. I do notice that it is sometimes a little slow but that’s only bc I’m using one.
Hi mate, just wondering if you ended up using an external Bec to run these 2 savox, I was thinking of running 2 SW-1211SG | Savox Standard 15kg Metal Geared Waterproof Servo and dunno if I can just plug and play or need an external Bec. Cheers mate
Hi l just installed two savox 1210 servos in my e revo2.0 and it steers fine when it’s not moving once I give it trottle the wheels won’t turn just wondering if you knew what the problem might be. Thanks love your vids
So those servos are $70 each, can you recommend me any other servos for maybe $30-40, that will do the job? And also do your connectors spark when plugging them in? Mine do and it’s kinda scary
I'm told that the spark is from the capacitors in the ESC. Mine does it also. The problem with the E Revo 2.0 is that it is so heavy. The stock servos are 125 oz of torque each for a total of 250 oz of torque. The better the servos the more they cost, and this heavy E Revo 2.0 needs better servos. One of those Savox SA-1256tg servos is 277 oz of torque. Its more torque than the stock servos and I've driven mine around with just one of the Savoxs in it. It does turn fine, but you can tell a difference when compared to two servos. I know one Savox 1256 is enough for the V1 E Revo. It may be enough for the 2.0 and you could just run one servo. I'd hate to recommend a different brand. There is a reason we are all running Savox servos. I'm making a video this week comparing two Savox 1256 servos to one. If you want to wait and see how my video turns out, you can. Or you can just get one of these Savox 1256 servos and maybe get a second one later. The 1256 really is one of the best servos for your money. A Hitec HS-645MG is a $35 servo and it only has 133 oz of torque and it has a slower turn rate. There just isnt any good low priced high torque servos.
Outsourced RC ahh ok that makes sense, is there a waterproof version of the 1256? Yeah I’ll probably just get 1 for now and then watch your video! Thanks for the info!
My limiting straps video shows what I did. You can use 90mm straps. I have been running stock shocks since installing those limiting straps and I've had zero issues
I'm a bit worried about the BEC, the traxxas servos use about 2500 mA when stalled as for the Savox they use 5000mA each. This will put so much stress on the BEC. Have you faced any issues?
Absolutely zero electrical issues. I don't get any strange behavior from it. I can tell that the batteries don't last as long with these servos, so I know they are using more power.
Not if you talk to traxxas, I bought their upgraded servos for the e revo 2.0, one already died, and called traxxas, and they stated that if you run two of the upgraded servos that's why one died, because they were fighting each other.
sir, how's the 1256TG holding up ? I busted my cheap 17.99 servos from amazon less than 2 weeks :( M going back to savox. I just don't which one to get. thanks
These Savox are 277 oz each. Even though it's more than the dual Traxxas servos at 250 combined, the turning feels a bit sluggish and if it's sitting still in the grass, it really doesn't want to turn the wheels if there is only one of these Savoxs. I'll see if I can get my hands on a Savox 1230 and see if a single one works as well as dual 1256's. No promises.
Ok, so Traxxas sent me 2 new servos after a 3 week back order. I installed them and they worked for 8 days, then 1 failed again. Very frustrating. Wanted to stick with Traxxas products. Guess I’ll have to find something else, a new servo that can handle the demand of the 2.0!
msn1206 I have a video up showing how well 2 Savox 1256's work. After talking with some people we have decided that 2 servos are better than one powerful servo. At least from our testing. The Savox 1210's are good for a dual water proof set up.
Well, it depends on what you are doing with it. An E Revo that is going to be jumped a lot won't have the same setup as one that will be driven around on the street. I actually drive mine in the house most of the time. I have some tiny jumps set up in my office. What are you using yours for? Typically upgrades are meant to solve an issue. What kinds of issues are you having or what do you want to change about the performance?
I secound that thinking about getting the 1/16 revo. An whats your over all review about itan im going to be doing a little bit of everything. Mostly bashing.
Had an e revo 2.0 for 2 weeks then sold it for an Arrma. The E revo ripped it's tires and stripped out a rod like you did. I work at a hobbystore and we've seen two broken E revo 2.0 already. I've owned 8 traxxas vehicles including the Xmaxx and realize the e revo 2.0 just isn't as durable so Arrma Kraton for me. get an Arrma to compare and bash around.
My E Revo 2.0 has been great. I'm ok with a few broken parts. I've heard bad things about Arrma like they are hard to get parts for and they stop supporting their older RC's. I like that Traxxas doesn't abandon their older models.
The recent deal with Arrma parts support is temporary. It is related to that whole bankruptcy thing. They should be back to normal soon. I think most of their 1/8 RC's have interchangeable parts, and the older versions can be upgraded to the newest standards. Traxxas definitely has the parts game on lockdown though.
The servos are working against each other. They should not sound like that in the neutral position. You also don’t have to disconnect those linkage rod‘s in order to adjust them.
Don't install dual Savox servos as they pull a lot of current and can cause fire to VXL 6S ESC, which unfortunately happened to mine before. You need a BEC to operate 2 servos.
Just got the e revo largely based on your one year review. Also enjoyed your ramp video. (45 degree) built one just like it. Keep them coming sir! Great material

What did you do about the rear shock problem? My end caps keep popping off. I just order some aluminum ones hoping that’ll hold better than plastic.
My limiting straps video shows what I did. You can use 90mm straps. I have been running stock shocks since installing those limiting straps and I've had zero issues
Awesome. Thanks
What color springs are best with 40wt oil for the erevo 2.0
I run the stock springs for mine. It depends on what kind of surfaces you are driving on really.

SC is for cars, SA is for aircraft. Or at least thats what Savox recommends.

Zero issues.
Good info. I haven’t had to change out a servo yet, but when I do, I’ll consider savox
They are a bit pricey but they are good. Ive tried Hi Tec and I strip their gears but that was on my Clodbuster.

Why were they making so much noise when you weren't touching the steering? Almost like they were trying to center themselves or something.
They are coreless. That's just the sound they make. Even with no servo horns on them they make that noise.

Not really.
Outsourced RC ok, m just trying see if it was the cause of the broken servos

It's too heavy. It's 3 lbs more than the v1 but it uses a lot of the V1 parts and they can't handle the extra weight.
Both mine died in a week, both at the same time, went the 30kg single savox and loving life
Ok, so Traxxas sent me 2 new servos after a 3 week back order.
Outsourced RC That is absolutely false. If 2 servos were better than 1 every vehicle would come that way or have the option. However 99% run only 1.
Have you ever got the savox servos wet?
Not these, no. They do make these same ones but water proof.
@@outsourcedrc thanks for the info. Keep up the awesome videos man.
Where did you get you bits for your power drill?
My local hobby shop. They were like $34
A cheap alternative is to buy a cheap set of hex keys and cut the end off with a cut off wheel on a dremel.
They make hex drill bits. About as cheap as buying phillips head bits
can you do videos on 1/16 e revos?
I can. I have one. Was there something in particular you were looking for?
A video about maintaining it and basic upgrades
And what springs and shock oil I should use
Well, it depends on what you are doing with it. An E Revo that is going to be jumped a lot won't have the same setup as one that will be driven around on the street. I actually drive mine in the house most of the time. I have some tiny jumps set up in my office.
What are you using yours for?
Typically upgrades are meant to solve an issue. What kinds of issues are you having or what do you want to change about the performance?
I secound that thinking about getting the 1/16 revo. An whats your over all review about itan im going to be doing a little bit of everything. Mostly bashing.
did you tube the holes in the rims and drill a hole in the tires?
Yep. I'm pretty sure the hole I drilled is what ripped the tire
Gpod thing I havent bought one yet lol have heard a few ppl with servo problems as well
I still think the 2.0 is worth it
I put one servo 25 kg all metal gears.👍
I ran my e revo through water and ended up have to replace the wheel bearings
yep
Fantastic vid brother . Great stuff. Liked and subbed you my friend 😊😁😊😁
Thank you!
Your welcome my friend 🙂👍🙂👍
What maintenance did you have to do after running your erevo thru water?
👍
Subbed! Erevo is awesome!

You are AWESOME!
The servos are working against each other. They should not sound like that in the neutral position. You also don’t have to disconnect those linkage rod‘s in order to adjust them.
Why!
1 Savox is enough.. hope they won't fight each other
So far no issues. I did this like 4 weeks ago and I drive the E Revo all the time.
Okay good. Again any issues after u installed the strap limiter? is that solved the problem?
I actually keep plastic rod ends to see if they come off. So far they have been holding strong. I should do an update video.
Smithesh N I’m trying to decide if I should put 1 or add 2 is your revo still holding up with the 2?
Don't install dual Savox servos as they pull a lot of current and can cause fire to VXL 6S ESC, which unfortunately happened to mine before. You need a BEC to operate 2 servos.
Not Hard up For Money?...Can I Have Some?...:)
No. You can't. That's why I'm not hard up for money 😉
