I use the stock plastic spur gear. Cause if something on the drivetrain is going to break, I want it to be my spur gear. It's only $3.00, and it's easy to replace!👍
Do you have a video on how to replace the spur. Mine stripped after 3 months. I ordered the metal version. Should I just replace with the stock plastic one?
Yes, definitely do not get a metal gear, stick with plastic cause something has to be the weak link. Mise well be a $3.00 gear that is easy to replace. I have a video on the differentials wich includes the clutch and spur gear assembly.
On the E-Revo 2.0 VXL the motor mount creates a tighter mesh between the pinion and spur gear as you are tightening the upper motor mount bolt. That said, I preemptively account for this and intentionally give it a looser mesh and when I tighten the motor mount screw it gives it a perfect mesh.
Hello Trevis (hope I didn't butcher your name, sorry!), As a newbie in the RC world owning an E-Revo 2.0, your videos are an immense help and I cannot thank you enough. The depth and detail you go into in each video are very satisfying to learn and understand! Regarding the gear mesh, is there any lubrication needed? I applied a tiny bit of WD-40 Dry on the gears, would that cause any issues? Thanks again, kind regards from Romania!
@DumitracheValentin No lube is necessary for the gear mesh. I Don't think it will hurt anything, maybe it might attract more dust though. I appreciate the the comment. Thank you!
love the video, i have an e revo 2.0 vxl as well, i want to use a 14 tooth pinion gear, do you happen to know if i need to move the motor from the low CG mounting holes to the high CG mounting holes? According to the manual page 27 it looks like they want you to, but if i remove the 3 hole plastic piece i would think i could adjust it just like you did. I really don't want to have to raise my motor to the higher CG holes
You probably will have to use the C position for the 14. But, I know a lot of people who have just gotten rid of the plastic adaptor and adjusted it correctly without it, just make sure it is tight with Loctite and get the mesh right!
Thanks for the videos, I just got a e revo conversion , I am having a hard time getting the dx5c and the 6 ch rx to deal with the 2 speed trany and reverse. Can you help the some tips on how to make this work...thanks
@@upgradedrc3697 This is from a nitro conversion I am told. I was told it had a 2 Speed with reverse. I am not sure how I can give you a better image of the truck. It supposed to be 1/10 scale. I can see a servo move in the trany and sounds like it has 2 speeds, have not been able to ingage the rev servo. From what I read, the 2 speed should cintriphical , and reverse should be another servo operation.
Ok trav, I got the servo to the rev gear set to a switch, functions, the long servo which I thinks is for the brake and 2 speed does not move. I have the rev gear in #4 on the rx and #3 for the brake 2 speed. Dont seemed to have movement on #3. Is there another setting I am missing? I have the speed and brake servo adjusted to a point where the revo has forward with little brake. This does not operate like a drag brake in crawling or is the revo supposed to run free wheeling? Or is there a way to break via the esc?
@@budnanc509 So on the E Revo 2.0 , It free wheels and you use rev for the brakes. On yours I believe your brake servo stops you, but I really don't have much experience with the Nitro setup or your conversion. There is no need to loosen the bottom screw on the motor mount. The motor mount pivots on a plastic peg, that screw is holding that peg in place. Just loosen the top screw and you can adjust the mesh.
@@upgradedrc3697 when I give my car throttle the pinion gear stays in contact with my spur but it goes up and down so sliding. I didn’t know if it had to stay in one spot. But What can I do to fix it

Adjust the motor plate so that the pinyon shaft is pretty much lined up in the center of the motor plate.then use the appropriate hole in the motor mount for the size pinyon that u have and follow the video for the correct gear mesh
No metal gears are bad. They last longer, but if the nylon gear dosen't break first, then it ruins the other gears down the line. The spur is the easiest one to change and the cheapest. So you want that to take all the abuse and save the other harder to get gears. Metal gears are bad.
I am running a 16t pinion and a 46t spur gear, and I am using the adapter with my bolt in the center position. This combination works great for me bashing and jumping and general all around!
Yes, you'll just have to change the orientation from the motor to motor mount holes. There are 3 sets of holes, 2 of which are used for the original motor with small or large pinion and the last set of holes used for Large Motors.
I saw your comment a while back and wanted to just say an experience I had today. . I too use a double folded paper. I never felt a single piece was enough, so have just always went with a double. Last night I threw on a 50t spur with my 12t pinion to see how I like it, but only used a single piece of paper. . After about 10 minutes of running it I started hearing a sound the was similar to a bearing running dry. Anything above 30,000 rpm and it would make this noise. . So I reset my mesh to a double piece and voilà the sound is gone. . Using the preset mesh adapter I can tell it’s a little looser than a double sheet, so you’ll be fine.
