I put some limiting straps on the rear end of the E Revo 2.0 and test it out. I'm trying to solve the issue of the rod ends being pulled off the shock rods.
Thanks for the tip, ever since I did this "fix" I haven't had any issues. Before this fix I broke it on second and third run in. I called Traxxas and they were usless. Thank God we have community to share the knowledge. 👍
Genius fix here sir. Thank you. I’ve ordered the parts. The moment I cart wheeled (93.5 times it appeared :-), and saw the truck was looking a little weird...I knew this is what had happened. Saw your video before buying the truck. I’m amazed that people are already selling these. They are WAY more durable than the savage I own. It’s a hot rod and hot rods break (just like the one in my profile pic!). Great truck...cheapo servos (what do we expect for so cheap?? Thanks for the info dude. Smart fix here!

I have also seen another video where TSM ruins backflipping...another thing to think of. Anyway...Great job and thanks for sharing your ideas!
I got one within the last week, you'll love it! Also DO NOT buy aluminum toe links, the rod ends are crap. The stock toe links and pushrods will take a beating, especially with chassis brace and straps, I got 90mm for mine. Also I put HD progressive springs from VG. So I'd say springs, brace, straps, extra hardened steel 14t pinion and metal 54t spur, rpm front bumper and rpm control arms are the best upgrades you can get. I wasted money on 7075 toe links...I suggested 14/54 pinion and spur bc a video recommended that for cooler running...we'll see...also get the yeah racing dual fan and heatsink for the motor.
@@timsgta My comment, being a year old.....since then I got it, put the limiting straps on, ran it a few times and then sold it on ebay. It was a great truck, but too much truck for my running space. It was really hard on my lipos as well. I also found I had to set braking to about 60% or it would flip over itself on pavement...lol. Those brakes were amazing! I kind of regret selling it, but just tight on space. The telemetry was cool too! Also, if I remember right, it had dual steering servos that sometimes, needed to be unhooked and synced up. Some people had the 2 servos fight each other which burnt them out.
I like your videos...entertaining and helpful. I’ll followed your advice and made the mod to my Revo 2.0 that you showed in your video. It’s been 3 months since the mod and no issues. Thanks!
Nice back flip fakie to face plant to 180 side flip to reverse landing, 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 straps look good seem to work pretty well on limiting the suspension.
Hi and thanks for the good videos. I just bought a E Revo 2.0 after seeing how much you liked it. It's my 1st ever rc car. Is there anything I should do to keep it healthy right from the start? Or just clean it after each use to begin with bruses and paper towels. I bought 'diff syrup' but I dont know what its for. Are there any other fluids I should stock? I have copper grease to hand.
The fluids will last you a while as stock. You will need to change them one day. Just be ready to replace the servos and get the limiting straps and you will be good.
just order the aluminium ball ends plus the straps. Really hope this works well. I am disappointed I spend 550 on this truck then first run mine broke. How this got through traxxas is beyond me.
Your rod ends on the push rods will fail next. My guess is that an engineer didn't have a hand on the 2.0. It seems like someone just wanted a beefy E Revo with out testing it.
Why is it the back that only needs them? Doesn't the front tires and suspension get whipped up when you accelerate? Or is it not bad. I basically just asking if I need this for the front shocks too. Thanks for the great vid!
I bought those straps also but did not buy spacers or anything so i was thinking on how to connect the straps to the suspention and i came with the easiest solution i could think of . My straps are 85mm and i just placed the strap over the brace from suspention to suspention and it fits like a glove
@@outsourcedrc the strap i use is 85mm and when i lift the car the suspension can not travel to the end. i understand what you mean that i connected them and that it seems if they limit eachother but that is not true. while i drive they can move because then the strap is not pulled at (sorry for my english xD) . those straps only need to limit the suspension when i jump. the pushrods only get pulled really hard at jumps and not while driving normally. if the pushrods damage i can always change it but i think it is oke like this.

Do you run straps on the front ? Some people do some do not. I just got an E revo Installed the brace and straps on the back. Looking for advice. Love your channel.
Nice shots man! So what exactly was that mod for!? Didn’t seem like it limited the extension of the suspension just had more support for when the suspension went back to normal? How did that end up working? I mean I saw till the end and it didn’t look like it stripped it. I wanna know the parts you bought for that mod!
I have a video about why that mod is needed. It's on my channel. I talk about why the rod ends on the shocks keep stripping out. There should be a shot of all the parts I bought. I think that 85mm straps may actually work better so that the spacer isn't needed. I went long with my straps so that I could add something to make them shorter.
How has the mod held up over the last month? Thanks for sharing the parts info! What was the part number for that red spacer? Thank you so much for your contribution to the community. Traxxas should have you in R&D!!
This mod has been great. The shock ends have zero stretching. That red spacer was made from a piece of a steel Traxxas axle. Use 90mm straps and you won't need the spacer.
couldn't find 90mm anywhere when I ordered yesterday; had to get 100mm. What exactly (was) is that little aluminum piece you honed down for a spacer? My ramp is now built according to your specs but went with 40 degrees. Finishing a couple details tonight and I even have some material left over to build more. Thanks for all your help.
I know from personal experience that the 8338 toe links, the black 7075 ones are not good, the rod ends do not stay together on those! As I'm sure everyone can attest...but I was wondering how the 8619 push rods hold up on the erevo?
Another question: in the comments, you said the 90mm was a tad too long then later on, you suggest getting the 90mm instead of the 85mm. Is your buddy's 90mm just right now or should I try to build what you did? Thanks big time for info
It's very surprising how much punishment these trucks can take, then other times surprising how easy the break. I'm up to 70wt oil, rc raven springs, vdk#2 in the shocks. It still lands so stinking hard. Tried 80 weight, but then the vdk pistons snap in half.
I'm running 40wt. I think that the shocks are overall too small for how heavy the E Revo is. If you want to see durable, check out my first video on my channel.
I just ordered hot racing 105mm limiting straps and some anodized aluminum pushrods since my stock ones are plastic and they’re bending. They’ll eventually break so I figured I get new rods and try out the limiting straps since everyone says they’re a life saver.
If Traxxas is smart, they should include this in all E-Revo 2 going forward and offer it to any current owners. Such a small cheap fix to make it more sturdy .
Well it’s October 2018..I was able to buy the 100mm limit straps as well as spacers from hot racing, only question is what is the length of screw you ended up settling on?
Thanks for the vid just bought Revo yesterday and first run i stripped a rod end and lost a shock cap. I can’t source 90mm straps anywhere would 80 be too short ?
Did you try connecting straps from the rear brace mount out to the pusrod ends? Then it would perhaps help save ripping any of the ball ends out. I'm about 50/50 as to which ones rip out, either the shock or a pushrod end. Might need to get an alloy body mount so it doesn't flex though for that to help. Still use the plastic mounts for the body, but the "tower" part would be alloy as the anchor.
You have inspired me to make my own. Used some plastic coated cable I had when I made these for my 5B many years ago. However, I didn't have any eyelets small enough/strong enough to work, so I had to fold the wire into small loops, wrapped them with more wire, then soldered it a lot and heat shrunk. Not quite as nice as yours, but hopefully will help keep all ball ends from ripping off. Seems fairly solid and I made them just short enough to where the arms hang gently on the cable vs the suspension at full extension. gmarquee98.x10host.com/myPics/98gmarquee/erbe/2018-0611-ERBE-RearShockLimitStrap02-rear.jpg gmarquee98.x10host.com/myPics/98gmarquee/erbe/2018-0611-ERBE-RearShockLimitStrap03-top.jpg gmarquee98.x10host.com/myPics/98gmarquee/erbe/2018-0611-ERBE-RearShockLimitStrap01-side.jpg
Had a couple good bash sessions with these so far. Seems to have helped with my issues. Ever since I installed the pro-line 3.8" trenchers, I have ripped at least one shock end or pushrod end off every time I ran.
Hello savior :) I would like to know the about the blue bar you have on top where you have the straps around. Your idea is such a help. I'll other the parts and get it fixed like yours. Thanks for sharing your idea to us.
I literally did the same thing but with zip ties from the brace to the cross on the a arms and it works flawlessly along with aluminum rod ends on the shocks
I bought the 85mm straps, along with the aluminum rear brace, and it is perfect. It actually tightens up good right before the shock gets to full extension. Thanks for this video!
Would you recommend the erevo or erevo 2.0? I actually own the nitro Revo with big/heavy tires and I've never had a problem with shocks or rod ends on it.
I don't have any experience with the Kraton. The 2.0 is the way to go. It's not perfect, but if you add the limiting straps and change out the servos you will have a beast of an RC. I'm amazed at how well it takes the abuse I put it through. My V1 ERevo breaks fairly often. The 2.0 is just so much more durable.
You say the plastic rear brace still let's the shocks break. Do you think this could work by using different length limiters along with the stock brace and accomplishing the same limiting as the metal brace and 90mm straps? I measured and see that 90mm would work with stock brace and using the spacer and longer screws out on the rocker arm.
I just bought a Revo and it has a plastic mount where the straps go and I noticed that you have a blue aluminum piece. Can you tell me what Traxxas part that is
Hate to bother you again, but I'm having a hard time finding the spacers you used. Closest I found was a #8 × 1/4" × 3/16". Not sure what the #8 means, think they will work the same or should I keep searching?
@@mikestrow3823 all I could find at my local Home Depot was a #8 1/4" by 1/4" spacer. So I had to measure and cut a couple pieces out of it. But it works great. Then I went through my tool box and found a cheap china 1/4" drive socket and cut it to fit in the aluminum chassis brace like he did. Think it was a 11mm or 12mm socket. 2 zip ties hold it in place great. I also recommend moving the tie rods to the inner most hole on the A arms. This way it's not pulling down so hard on the suspension components. 👍👍
Thanks! My local home depot has the #8 x 1/4 x 3/16, going to pick that up. I went with the 85mm straps, so I dont think the spacer will be needed, but we'll see. Appreciate the quick reply!
@@mikestrow3823 you'll need the spacers. When you fold the straps in half the metal ends don't fit flat against each other because they fold the ends of the straps together and sew them to hold the metal ends to the straps. The spacer keeps the metal ends straight.
Wow!!! Now I gotta go try this. I skimmed threw the video because i was in a hury but i hope you told everything you used. to make it. screw size and all. i hope.
Seen another guy take a shock rebuild kit and take the bump stop for the shock shaft in the rebuild kit and put it on the inside of the shock on the shaft to keep it from coming out as far and it has work for him and the rod ends pulling out or breaking
Have you thought about putting a soft ramp made w say dirt on the other side so the car doesn’t take as much of a beating on landings? I’m thinking I’m going to build double sided ramps w/ a soft side landing so it will not take as much toll on landings. But if I break this links I’ll try that. My son keeps breaking his but at 13 he’s a little harder on things. I put the stringer aluminum rods on mine and doing his too. It’s mainly the plastic that snaps.
This is an awesome video and information. So after this mod, have you considered adjusting shock springs, oil, or pistons to dampen them more? Now that the breakage issue is resolved? To keep it from bottoming out so bad...
Hey mate I've literally had my erevo for under 1 week yesterday I was using the grass rise in my front yard to jump over the neighbours driveway. Not a problem. Today I hit a very small wooden ramp about 4 times doing small jumps and boom! Ripped the rod end off. I ordered straps and spacers but I purchased the 85mm straps not the 100mm. Will it still work do you think? Or do I contact amain hobbies and see of the will swap them for me
@@outsourcedrc awesome Thank you. I tried to reuse the old rod end which tightens fine. I just used the truck and simply dropped off of the curb and it popped again. Is there any need to do the limit straps on the front end. Most guys only seem to do the rear of the truck.
looks like the bottom of the ramp is kicking up and putting undo stress on the rear wheels and suspension. I would bet, thats playing a role in the broken shocks on rear only. My 2 cents
This is something we used to do to our 5B/5T's back when those 1/5 scales blew up in popularity. I would stick with the 100mm and no spacer. If you look at the video clips, whenever you manage a nice flat landing when the spacer isn't installed, the rear suspension does it's job and the Revo lands well. With the 10mm spacer you added, the rear end doesn't function as well and the Revo's back end always bounces hard even when you do manage a good landing. If anything, try a 5mm spacer but it looks like the spacer isn't needed.
The straps are the perfect length with that spacer. The suspension doesn't drop any lower if I undo the straps. I'm not sure why it seems more bouncy after. It may just be the clips I selected. I didn't post everything.
Outsourced RC it's not a matter of the rear suspension dropping lower, aka, droop. It's a matter of allowing the springs to decompress more when the the rear end is on the way up. In any event, if it works for you, it's all that matters. Like you said, those are hand picked clips so it's limited on what people can see. Have a good one👍
i was just wondering what was wrong with the 100mm straps? why did you swtich to that spacer? i want maximum travel is all and idk if 90 stops it to early
How much of your E Revo 2.0 is still stock in this video? I am really leaning towards getting one. It will be my first high-end rc so I'll need to invest in batteries and a charger otherwise I would have probably justified the purchase by now...
i do believe everything but what you see me swap out in the video. I may have put 40 wt oil in the shocks in this video. I dont remember. This is a solid RC once you get the bugs worked out. Its one of my favorites.
They are oil filled shocks. Normally they have the right amount of oil in them. You can always check and see if they need filling, but I don't find that Traxxas RCs need oil out of the box.
I think turning the nut on the shocks to take some of that tension off the springs. just because the thread goes that high dose not mean they should be that high.
Wow! Every erevo owner needs to know this for sure!

Love when it hit the camera, awesome view.
Ha. Thanks. I've hit that thing several times. It's all broken and bent. The tripod I mean.
If Traxxas is smart, they should include this in all E-Revo 2 going forward and offer it to any current owners. Such a small cheap fix to make it more sturdy .
Nice video! Wonder if it applies to the MERV, probably doesn’t weight enough to stress them like that. Wonder if this was fixed in the ERV2.
The MERV doesnt have this issue.
Well it’s October 2018..I was able to buy the 100mm limit straps as well as spacers from hot racing, only question is what is the length of screw you ended up settling on?
awesome video! those limiters turned out great!
Yep! Thanks!
Thanks for the vid just bought Revo yesterday and first run i stripped a rod end and lost a shock cap. I can’t source 90mm straps anywhere would 80 be too short ?
Yeah they would. You could do 100mm and have a spacer like I do.
What about 85mm?
Perfect I was going to say put something in between for the straps :):):)
That trucks perposly made for bashing!
I'm trying to come up with something. I have some ideas to try.
Seems fairly solid and I made them just short enough to where the arms hang gently on the cable vs the suspension at full extension.

very interesting. Nice work.
Had a couple good bash sessions with these so far. Seems to have helped with my issues. Ever since I installed the pro-line 3.8" trenchers, I have ripped at least one shock end or pushrod end off every time I ran.
You slow Mo,s are king :)
Pretty cool video! Liked the jump into the camera. Haha
Hello savior :) I would like to know the about the blue bar you have on top where you have the straps around. Your idea is such a help. I'll other the parts and get it fixed like yours. Thanks for sharing your idea to us.
That bar is the aluminum rear brace that was made for the v1.
Will your E Revo do a standing back flip right out of the box or did you have to change gears? Mine will not out of the box.
I literally did the same thing but with zip ties from the brace to the cross on the a arms and it works flawlessly along with aluminum rod ends on the shocks
traxxas r&d should of addressed this, big time. u should contact them and let them know what’s happening
We have. They know. I don't know if they are going to do anything about it.
zedrick zedwick They are watching trust me
They want the money for their ripoff spares
Way to think out of the box!
That jump at 6:00 the suspension really works for it lol
Wonder if those straps would work better with the standard rear brace? That slot seems too far back to work with those straps on the aluminium brace
Great stuff.....what size bolts did you wind up using? Thanks....tazzzz
M3.5 x 25mm
Will I regret ordering 85mm straps? Will the limit travel too much after they stretch some? The 90mm straps are out of stock everywhere!
I don't think you will. I don't think you will notice a difference
I bought the 85mm straps, along with the aluminum rear brace, and it is perfect. It actually tightens up good right before the shock gets to full extension. Thanks for this video!
Awesome!
i’m kinda curious why they discontinued this so fast and why there hasn’t been a emaxx refresh
Slow motion shots are awesome!
Thanks!
Hello, what about the screw for installation? From the video it seems you have there M3.5x25 and M3.5x30 ... Am i right?
Would you recommend the erevo or erevo 2.0? I actually own the nitro Revo with big/heavy tires and I've never had a problem with shocks or rod ends on it.
What about the arrma kraton? How would that compare to one of the E Revos?
I don't have any experience with the Kraton. The 2.0 is the way to go. It's not perfect, but if you add the limiting straps and change out the servos you will have a beast of an RC. I'm amazed at how well it takes the abuse I put it through. My V1 ERevo breaks fairly often. The 2.0 is just so much more durable.
Maybe the spacer is not needed when using shorter limiting straps? Good video 👍🏻
Its not. This is all I had.
What size of limiting straps did you use? I want to do the same with mine but am unable to find the appropriate length! Thanks!
Mine are 100mm, but I have to use that red spacer. 90mm is the correct size
This is a super dumb question but are there limiting straps used for the front as well? If so what size and placement?
Did the limiting straps resolve the problem long term?
Yep.
The stock brace is brittle. It breaks so easily. Every one I know in person has broken their stock rear braces.
Good reason! I need to get you on the phone! LOL.
Amazing must have cheap fix. Great job
thanks. It serves me well.

The #8 is the size of the hole. An 8 hole is bigger than the 6. I believe it will work.
Hi Paultro 84, did the #8 spacer work?
Wow. Brilliant idea. Should have limiters for all models. Prevent popping shock caps ect.
Wow!!! Now I gotta go try this. I skimmed threw the video because i was in a hury but i hope you told everything you used. to make it. screw size and all. i hope.
yes, its in the video. I think its in the middle somewhere...
Found it. ua-cam.com/video/MJOgcxF_D4w/v-deo.html
Have you ever had to fix wheel wobble on your revo mine came out box like this
nope. Normally I dont worry about it too much. Sometimes its just a thing you have to live with.
Did you make any measurement of the amount of drop of the arm vs. after the straps were attached?
No. It stops it right at the length it needs to.
Seen another guy take a shock rebuild kit and take the bump stop for the shock shaft in the rebuild kit and put it on the inside of the shock on the shaft to keep it from coming out as far and it has work for him and the rod ends pulling out or breaking
Awesome !!! I was so bothered about this issue. After several runs does it fix for goods the issues. Thanks for your video.
Yeah this has fixed my issue. I've had zero problems with the shocks and I'm still using the stock plastic ends.
I'm not putting a pile of dirt in my front yard. Also, its really hard to hit a landing ramp. I do it sometimes. Just watch my latest video.
Oh, I’m doing mine in the back! The wife would kill me!!😂
great video!! can you please tell me where you got those bit set to use on your drill? Thanks!
Thanks! I got them at the hobby shop. I dont even know what brand they are. They are the same ones the hobby shop uses. I think they were around $35.
Do you think you could get away with shorter straps and be ok without the spacer at the brace? Maybe 95 mm?
90mm Straps are the perfect size
This is an awesome video and information. So after this mod, have you considered adjusting shock springs, oil, or pistons to dampen them more? Now that the breakage issue is resolved? To keep it from bottoming out so bad...
Yep. I just got the oil the other day. I had to wait for it to be in stock.
Will wait on your observations!
I am about to do the same, isn't possible to use shorter straps and get rid of the aluminum piece? maybe 80 mm straps are ok?
90mm straps are the perfect size. They are hard to find though.
Or do I contact amain hobbies and see of the will swap them for me
85 Will be Fine. 90-85 are ideal.
@@outsourcedrc awesome Thank you. I tried to reuse the old rod end which tightens fine. I just used the truck and simply dropped off of the curb and it popped again. Is there any need to do the limit straps on the front end. Most guys only seem to do the rear of the truck.
@@Fst70y No limit straps are needed on the front. Just the rear.
Epic video mate! great idea! big like
Extremely surprised your push rods did not come out.
They rarely come out.
looks like the bottom of the ramp is kicking up and putting undo stress on the rear wheels and suspension. I would bet, thats playing a role in the broken shocks on rear only. My 2 cents
It is. It's mostly the weight though. The E Revo 2.0 is just so heavy.
90 is perfect. 100 still lets the shocks come apart.
How u backflipping so easy whats the gearing your running
Stock gears. It just takes practice to back flip so easy.
Just by my e-revo today. I was wondering do the shocks need or can take oil?
They are oil filled shocks. Normally they have the right amount of oil in them. You can always check and see if they need filling, but I don't find that Traxxas RCs need oil out of the box.
I think turning the nut on the shocks to take some of that tension off the springs. just because the thread goes that high dose not mean they should be that high.
это болезнь новой ревы.
отличное решение,спасибо
Can you give the links please cause I’m having a hard time finding the same screws and spacers. Great video btw
Home depot they have them in drawers in specialty hardware section.
