I did not see this twist coming at all. I think it shocked me more than any other twist ending before. I picked this one up at a goodwill knowing nothing about it. Was from that era in 2000s with all the PG-13 horror. Hidden gem

    "Their poor father"
That sick jerk cheated on his dying wife with her caretaker! This was not a 'she helped her go peacefully and we got close after because we both knew how hard it was'. They looked a dying woman in the eye and felt no guilt later. And then he had the audacity to want his happy little family back? Nah bro, he deserved all that shit

I enjoyed it the 1st time I watched it overall. I suspected that her sister wasn’t really there early on. What REALLY got me was when she was sent back to the asylum & the Mildred Kemp reveal when the door was closed... And Stevie Wonder said, “I didn’t see THAT coming!

I was so proud when I figured out the twist ending. It was about 10 seconds before the dad gave that weird face & said, "Alex? Anna, what are you saying???" I never would've figured it out, had I not known that there was a twist ending to begin with. Still, it was a proud moment. I thought the very ending kinda ruined it, because it made it look like Anna knew what she was doing. "I finished what I started." She had the picture with Rachel's head cut out. Then she gave a smirk at the end. It kinda ruins the original thought that she DIDN'T know what she was doing when she killed Rachel. Oh well. This is an amazing movie, regardless.

I first saw this movie after I had a massive head injury that had caused me to lose my short term memory. I bought this movie and every few months I rewatch it having forgotten or mixed up parts of it. So every time is like I get to experience it fresh for the first time. Well I’m the last few years my brain has learned to compensate by giving me an eidetic memory so unless I wait a longer amount of time I will pick up on it when re watching it. It’s still the silver lining that I can enjoy many movies over and over like it’s the first time (if I watch them repeatedly in a short amount of time I can get them to my long term memory but honestly I like the forgetting when it’s good books or movies/tv because that excitement is still there.)

When watched in Spanish, the plot twist wasn’t nearly as flawless. Whenever another character spoke to both sisters, he or she referred to them in plural (ustedes), rather than simply “you”, as in English, wich works perfectly to keep up with the delusion. That created several contradictions.

I wrote a long paragraph but have to add this one (BTW I love this movie - even bought but has so many holes) - now a compliment. I like when a director plays fair - this one did. One scene sort of told me there was going to be a death - when the young guy who likes Anna says "I know what happened that night" = well, he spoke his death warrant didn't he? The bruises on Anna's arms - great scene but had a feeling he was grasping for his life.

I love this movie, even the soundtrack but sorry - there are holes in it big enough for a T Rex to walk thru. Firstly, when Anna is being discharged the doctor mentions coping with the mother's death but does not mention the sister's death which occurred the same time. That would have ruined the plot twist. Yes, great plot twist but the twist only happens because the doctor wrongly leaves a significant fact out!!! Another senseless part - the mother is removed from the main house with only a tiny, animal bell to summon help. Even with bionic hearing there is no way this could be heard, keep in mind this is a very sick woman who seems unable to do self care . Also the house and grounds are huge, almost estate proportions. This place should have had a housekeeper and maybe a groundskeeper. However, when Anna first comes home, she runs upstairs and calls "Alex", so you can't have a housekeeper to hear that (Dad is parking the car, Nurse in kitchen) - the film had to keep cast sparse. Now the big dinner party for the book preview - I don't have wealthy friends but a formal party like that would have had called for extra hired servers. So I was surprised by the twist and definitely the scenes where Alex is in them are believable but those glaring holes! PS I think a Tale of Two Sisters was lost in translation.

@@DrumdumsMovieReviews and that bothers me in a film I liked. It could have been put together so much better. In Sixth Sense - the director played fair and there were 3 good clues - each progressively better. In the first encounter of the psychologist and the mother they really do not look like they see each other and are interacting. Second best - the restaurant scene where he rushes in to his wife - the server puts the check down and just keeps going. I have worked as a server - I would have acknowledged a person who suddenly sits down and ask if the needed something (and that was an upscale restaurant) - last and best - the psych and the boy take a bus to the dead girl's house - a bus - because dead men don't drive.
