Shreyash Agarwal- Because he has a lot of older phones on older softwares and if he didn’t block the Apple updates they would be automatically updated to their latest firmware, which cuts their value significantly.
Oh hello fellow DankPod fan! Also uh hi!? Considering this was carried around everyday, I presume this would have more retracts if it was used a lot considering a knock against the table could cause this? I don’t know, maybe that’s just me.
Great video. I am still using the 160GB version since having bought it new more than ten years ago and it still works perfectly and holds a reasonably good charge. I love the simplicity of the device and the ease of volume and song control without having to look at it. It is truly "classic"!
Nice high! I would recommend putting a foam pad in between the as card adapter and the logic board. This will stop it shorting out and rattaling. Keep up the great work!
This isn’t by the same person but it’s the same premise ua-cam.com/video/f4c5wxGbivY/v-deo.html And this one too ua-cam.com/video/r5b-oI8KCnk/v-deo.html
As long as the logic board is still working, that's good enough. I bought an extremely beat up Classic for 30 bucks. Logic board alone is worth much more than that.
Love this video bro. I do have x2 5th gen bought on ebay for $20 on the white and $15 on the black. Yes the bluetooth module is the way to go for this and the big battery and I'm also planning for a Qi charger module now it'll next gen iPod for quite sometime with this upgrades. Keep up the good work and keep posting videos.
iPod opening tip that works really well for me: use dart flights. They’re softer than metal to avoid scratching and more durable than those plastic pry tools so they don’t break.
You might be able to remove some light scratches in aluminium by sanding it down with an orbital sander (200 grit) and putting a clear coat/spray lacquer to protect it. It might not like up perfectly with the rest of the device and deeper scratches might be impossible without leaving a crater, but it's worth experimenting with
a retract is a g sense event Basically it panics and slams the head back to the park position when it senses too much movement so it doesn't crash Generally it is triggered by a drop while the drive is spinning This is perfectly expected. Also lots of pending sectors / reallocates isn't a problem as long as they are not constantly increasing every time you peak at it. Then you should start worrying.
ow wow hugh keep it up! you've inspired me to record myself Restoring an iphone 6, 6s a Gold 6, a 5s a 4, a 4s and An IPad 2, you are a legend! keep it going bro you literally just inspired me
Scratches can be removed from Aluminium with sanding, polishing, bead blasting and anodising. The bead blasting and anodising requires lots of special equipment and skills and the sanding and polishing requires lots of hard work. It is almost always better value to buy a bootleg replacement.
4:40 The hold switch ribbon cable (the one that says "Apple Computer Inc.") gets brittle over time and can easily rip from the battery adhesive when trying to replace the battery. Use caution.
Hugh, you're living my dream of repairing older phones/tablets/computer etc. Unfortunately I can almost never find good deals on old hardware on ebay 🤔.
Good restoration. Unfortunately I found almost nothing ipod classic related parts by the links you proposed. Where you bought the back and front panels? Back panel made of plastic, right, so how it is after the month since restoration?
That silver iPod probably had the same amount of start stops on the hard drive as the black one, but the drive was a Samsung which for some reason does not track start/stops accurately. Since the hard drive turns on every few minutes to cache the upcoming songs, it would make more sense to have tens of thousands of start/stops on the hard drive over 10+ years of use, especially with 600+ hours. The iPod on the left likely has a Toshiba drive, which, along with the third brand of hard drives used in iPods, Hitachi, track all of the start/stop counts, while the Samsung drives only log start/stop counts if the iPod is plugged into a computer or a dock.
you might find that it might be a bit slower as it has to convert it all and sometimes the ram cant handle it, however it will acctuaily save the batery life. there is a channel called Dankpods he has made a bluetooth ipod and he has put 2TB in a ipod 5.5 gen. that is where i lernt to fix old ipods and upgrade them.
Yes would love to see you put Bluetooth into a older iPod as that is one thing I’m wanting todo myself to my iPod classic 6 gen but don’t know what’s best to use
Thank you for this video! After watching, I realized that my 5th Gen iPod, which has been gathering dust due to a non-charging battery, can have a new life! I am going to order a replacement battery and fix it myself! I love that iPod so much, thank you for helping me realize I can revive it. 😊
I found one of these the other day in the drawer in the garage, and after I established it was working I chucked it back in the drawer with the rest of the old electrical gadgets 😏 until next time ...
Where did you get the backplate with the custom serial number from? I broke my classic’s backplate when removing a spicy pillow and it was such a shame since it was in great condition.
YES. I wanted to use iPod classic as my normal music player, but I can’t connect my Bluetooth headphones, making it kind of redundant. Love to see how a Bluetooth mod works
