I was driving down the highway and changing lanes. As I accelerated to around 60 everything was fine. In a few seconds my iPad decided to fly up from the bonnet of the car as I forgot it was placed there. As it carried in the wind it hit the windshield of the car continuing to fly off the car.
    You can imagine my face...
Well let’s just say it was a bit more demolished than this MacBook.

It always amazes me how some people treat their MacBook's. Back in 2011 me and two of my friends all went to the Apple Store and each bought 13" MacBook Pro's for University. So, all three MacBook Pro's were identical & bought at the exact same time. I always keep my Apple stuff in as close to mint condition as possible (even being really OCD about the packaging including all the little pieces of plastic/paper covering the power brick and plug. I also clean my MacBook Pro's religiously), my friend took good care of her MacBook Pro too...
The other friend however thrashed that poor thing to an inch of it's life. He didn't use a carrying case/sleeve and just threw it in his bag. Less than ONE MONTH after getting an immaculate, brand new MacBook Pro the thing was covered in scratches, dings and dents and was FILTHY. I've never seen such damage and dirt/mess caused in such a small amount of time (You could almost write your name on the case). If you compared mine and my other friends MBP to his; his MBP looked like it was 10 years old and had served in an active war-zone. That's how bad the MBP had gotten after ONE MONTH.
The really crazy thing was that he was EXTREMELY tight with money, more-so than anyone I've ever met. It was such a contradiction to see someone that tight with money who couldn't be bothered to look after a £1000, brand new MacBook Pro.

Great video as always! I'm literally hooked on these repairs, so much so that is has inspired me to tinker with phones, also in the hopes of reducing e-waste, especially in my country that has basically no laws tackling this particular issue.
That being said does anyone have any online resources to get started on some basics?

Still rocking my 2011 MBP. Swapped out the battery, upgraded RAM and switched to SSD. Works like a dream, plus I don't need to spend money on annoying adapters thanks to its plethora of ports!

I think the early user or something else has managed to remove the SSD and speakers and battery to use in a different laptop or device.
It’s really great that you can fix literally anything.
People should gave their old device to you as your are doing kind of a service towards the environment.
    Great video man.

Nice repair work - that is so much better than the old wreck it once was, and also saves it from the e-waste pile :) I'm surprised that someone hacked out part of the battery!
Those battery cells (which are still there) can be re-purposed in electronic projects, if you get in contact with people who are into electronic engineering and the like. I routinely buy job lots of laptop batteries on the cheap in order to salvage Li-Ion cells for projects, and the Macbook ones generally have more capacity remaing compared to Windows laptops (Windows only reports the battery as dead when its capacity reaches 40%!).
Shame that this was the first of the laptops to feature soldered RAM, proprietory parts (such as the SSD) and no disk drive... IMO the Unibody 2012 was the best one; shame it won't take Mac OS 11 Big Sur (will only got to 10.15 Catalina).

    I love the video
That said I have to point out the awful world of Mac screens are constantly fluctuating. You were so close to why it is the screen was expensive. It's actually because of demand for a part that is not manufactured in spare. Every OE screen on the internet (aside from very private grey markets) came from a MacBook. It's frustrating, but that's the world of repair Apple created.

Man, they went John Wick on that Macbook. I just got done rebuilding a Macbook pro I got off ebay. It had a busted LCD screen. I was about to get it for $100 what I did not know was the camera cable is 6 pin and my board's video port is 12 pin. Other than that it works great. Your videos are such a great help. I am a real noob when it comes to apple products.

Literally, How can a computer be destroyed THAT much?!?! Insane. I am the complete opposite. I recently ordered a 16" MacBook Pro (upgrading from the first Late 2008 MacBook Pro unibody). For the 16" MacBook I ordered a screen protector, a trackpad protector, a Touchbar protector, a snap on case, a sleeve for carrying, a keybard cover and a silicone case for the charger (so it doesn't slide around). :D

Really good video Jeff, i really like your videos and please do more macbook videos.
And like you said the older 2015 to 2013 have a huge demand on the used market. I can sell the 2015 models way quicker than the newer ones from 2016-2018 (2019 with new keyboards are easier to sell guess why haha).
I would only recommend to clean that charging port and the other ports, i think you probably done that but since you didn´t showed im just saying
    Thanks for saving this macbook!
