Watch his Letterman interview with Denzel. D was the first guest, and he requested to stay on stage when Don came on. Denzel sat there on stage looking like a kid getting to sit with the REAL Santa Clause, and Don did the same thing. He would throw a joke at Denzel’s expense, and then pat him on the leg. His nickname Mr Warmth was the best joke of his life. Because it was literal and comedic. It works as sarcasm because his whole schtick was poking fun at other people, but it was also very true, because he loved everyone he ever worked with, met, whatever. If he was talking crap about you, it meant he loved you. And he always made it a point to make sure he said it. Whether it be as broad as a whole race of people or as little as just one dude, he made it a point to say “hey, it’s just jokes, I love you all”. And he truly did.

I had the pleasure and honor of sitting with Don for a few minutes in the 70's when I was working with my band at the Cricket Club in Miami. He was one of the nicest human beings I had ever met and not at all like his stage persona. His heart was as big as his comedic talent. RIP Don.
My uncle saw a Don Rickles show in Las Vegas. He was seated in the front. Don abused him. Turns out Don served in the Philippines during WW2. My uncle said he was dying from laughing so hard.
Wow nice to know that he serves here in the Phil's. Don I think was the legend in stand up comedy. Where ever you put him even in a talk show. Standing or seating.
One of the greatest joke of the show, because it's him but today it not possible or i think we will never listen this type of joke in TV show, never, and it's better for all of us.
This video feels like a grand closing of a life. It has an element of existential beauty, like a poem no one told but everyone wanted to hear, couldn't be better. I don't know whether tears in my eyes are of joy or sorrow, or just are. Death makes life so mysteriously beautiful. Thankful to all talented and warm hearted people in this video, expressing that love and laughter is the best way to experience life with fellow human beings.
A beautiful person that I believe made a difference. He joked about all races. He fought in WW2 and like the brave men with him were scared as hell. It helped to make him the man he was. Our freedom today is because of men like him. God bless him.
Wow. Never seen this before. As a European, Rickles never was a ‘household name’, but quite possibly the funniest comedian to ever grab the mic. I was in tears when they helped him up and found myself standing up when the rest of the room did. God bless you Don.
What a privilege to be there on that night. He could get away with saying things nobody else would dare and be funny at the same time because he really had a heart of gold. Legend.
Mr. Scorsese and De Niro don’t just show up, let alone get on stage for anyone I don’t think ever in this format. That really says everything. I love how Marty cracks up every time Bob walks back into the shot when its his line
