  • Next to Caitlin Clark, Connie Yori was arguably the greatest women’s basketball player to come from Iowa. She enjoyed a distinguished playing career at Creighton University in Omaha, then later coached at Creighton in between coaching stops at Loras and Nebraska. For the last several years, Connie had acted in an advisory capacity for the women’s basketball program at Creighton. In June 2024, she announced her retirement as an advisor. Back on March 20, 1982, I had the good fortune to break the story that she had signed with Creighton to play basketball there. The interview occurred on WHO-AM’s Saturday Sportsline program, originating from Des Moines. I’m Michael D. Lee, and I worked at WHO-AM in news and sports from 1980-1983.
