Deep Space Nine rarely gets the credit it deserves for telling a layered, nuanced political story in the space opera format. It was character-driven, carefully plotted, and probably the best overall written Star Trek. It deserved a movie. It deserves a movie.
+Gary Dorgan I agree that it was lacking in the exploration which died but wasn't really noticed because it was so weak from the start. however in the grand scheme of things trek it is a pivotal point in which much of the politics etc of the trek verse got a really big fleshing out I'd wager without it videos like this wouldn't be worth the effort making as the back story would be so weak behind the main races
I enjoyed DS9 very much. It was a welcome change of pace from all the space ship based Treks. But it had time enough to tell its story to the very end, and did. Any revisiting now would be anticlimactic and would also damage sales of the post TV series novels. In fact, any new 24th century based shows would be set in a no win universe, where androids, holograms, and other devices are being declared sentient and demanding equality, if not superiority over biological beings. Add to that the fact that the Borg have assimilated much of the galaxy and will continue until all beings are either Borg or destroyed. It makes any stories set during that era futile at best. The timeline does need a reboot. But JJ Trek and Discovery are not the way to do it. But that's the way the owner's of the franchise have chosen, in addition to shutting down any fan efforts that show the right way, leading to Trek's death as both a cult phenomenon and a cultural icon. The ONLY path now is for creative fans to create a new shared universe devoid of Trek trappings, but guided by Trek philosophies.
Gary, that is a very narrow-minded view. Considering all the various races and corresponding issues, Star Trek can't ONLY be about "trekking and exploration". There are far too many races/factions out there with their own agenda for it to ONLY be about trekking and exploration. DS9 shown light and detail that many Trek fans craved for whether it was more detailed politics, larger combat scenes and combat info, intricacies of various intel agencies like the Obsidian Order to more details about the histories of Klingon houses or the Romulan-Federation relationship. Contrary to what you think, had DS9 never existed, it would've done Star Trek lore a DIS-service.
There is little hope of a shared fan timeline, the nearest equivalent would be the C0DA of The Elder Scrolls. The result of which is an official timeline which is directionless and homogenized and a fan-timeline which likes to declare itself as cannon but is both directionless and also utterly asinine taking - if you know TES, it's a game series set in a medieval fantasy, well C0DA currently has space-faring elves living on a mechanical planet. C0DA is a warning that no cobbled together fannon will ever be well structured enough to functionally replace the official cannon(s) and no matter how bad the official cannon appears to be, it's several steps better than an overall fannon. The best you could hope for is a singular fannon architect to gain some sort of cult following, but it is unlikely to ever gain any real traction.
I've always wish the Romulans were a bit more fleshed out. Also wish Trek would explore more of the non-humanoid races. Seeing the Tholians return in Enterprise was kinda nice.

mariolis1000 I think the Romulan war could’ve been their answer to Star Wars the clone wars series and I think this series should’ve aired on nickelodeon should’ve been made in 2006 and aired from 2006 to 2009 with three seasons (Who should make and produce the series i vote Steve marmel The former developer of Danny phantom i’m saying it should been made by the same guys that did Danny phantom) and it would be a micro series (similar to the clone wars 2003 microseries) like and comment if you agree
Interesting and informative. I am curious about the art you employed. The drawing of Vulcan with ice caps and oceans (seas) was great. Especially, having the southern ice cap appears to be feeding that Southern sea. It's similar to the subsurface melt sea under the Southern pole of Saturn's moon Enceladus. Do you by any chance have a place on the web where I could see a larger version of the drawing? I have always wondered what the ecology of Vulcan would be like. I remember a novel written back in the 80's or 90's. I can not recall the author, or the title, but it described early Vulcan's prior to a star flair that did terrible damage in a burn over. It may have been "STRANGERS FROM THE SKY", and I think it was written by the same author. I hope you do more such video's. Great work, and best of luck in your future endeavours. Please, contact me by email if you do.
Since it would appear that Romulus was more hospitable than Vulcan, it would make sense for the Romulans to have lost some of the physical strength of their Vulcan cousins. It would make sense that the Romulans would still be stronger than humans, but generations on Romulus would no longer have had to survive on such a harsh planet. It's been mentioned that Romulans have evolved enough that they were no longer physiologically identical to Vulcans. I'd just like to see their physical strength strength addressed since they've emphasized that Vulcans are 3 times stronger and faster than humans, and Klingons are stronger and have more endurance than humans. It would be interesting to know how the Romulans stack up.
The Romulans abandoned their plan to have shinzon infiltrate the Federation as Picard when they realized that he looks NOTHING like Picard.... despite him being a clone of Picard.
im not really sure, they've never really said anything about it. seeing as how there is no show that picks up after TNG, i would think all STO content should count. Adds more to the Star Trek story
I am not sure what to think of this... It DOES explain a lot (I was somewhat confused), but this sort of sounds like a "future that did not happen", though I am sure that humans will meet someone with Romulan characteristics (if we haven't already). And maybe Vulcans, too, but one can only hope not at the same time... (People seem to be one thing or the other [we are logical, but also emotional], but not both at the same time.)
Try reading, My Enemy, My Ally and The Romulan Way by Diane Duane. The two novels tell a non-canon story about the Rihannsu/Romulans that IMHO is better.
All I wanna know is why they’re Space Rome. They have Rome’s government, titles, and much of its culture. Now I know we saw a literal 20th century Rome in TOS, but I still want an actual explanation for space Romulus and Remus.
On the way to what became Romulus they observed ancient earth & thought "these Roman guys are cool! One day we'll become fine allies!" But when they finally saw what Earth became they were disgusted because we became space commie/hippies!
Alright you got me.. I'll start watching Star Trek, where do I start if I just like the whole galactic UN deal? And the different species, Romulan Master Race
Next Gen. Picard stuck very close to home and didn't do a lot of exploring. There is a lot of internal Federation politics but the best episodes in my opinion center around the power struggles within the Klingon Empire.
Succinct very interesting. My inner nerd would question whether Romulans and Klingons had an alliance. If so their common hatred of the Federation would have had significant impacts . More likely their mutual hatred would have kept them away from the federation. They have traded technologies;D7 cruisers, cloaking, Warp etc. But this could occur during conflict, capturing derelict ships for instance. Are there any Canon references to this alliance?

I remember a novel written back in the 80's or 90's. I can not recall the author, or the title, but it described early Vulcan's prior to a star flair that did terrible damage in a burn over. It may have been "STRANGERS FROM THE SKY",
and I think it was written by the same author.
Do a video on vulcans please and mention Spock.
The Romulans abandoned their plan to have shinzon infiltrate the Federation as Picard when they realized that he looks NOTHING like Picard.... despite him being a clone of Picard.
Some of those planets are also names of the Romulan Warbirds in their fleet too.
'Ree-man' not 'REmun'
Thank you
as the Rock would say IT DOESNT MATTER WHAT YOUR NAME IS or in this case SPECIES
very good :D
Ah, Space Romans
Love it good job are who now going to do the Cardassasions
There is more.............Romulan Republic, Iconanians, Empress Sela
Isn't Romulan Republic and the Iconanians versus Romulan republic just part of STO ?
im not really sure, they've never really said anything about it. seeing as how there is no show that picks up after TNG, i would think all STO content should count.
Adds more to the Star Trek story
From what i got from the wiki. Star trek online is a part of expanded universe. But I hope too that it is part of the cannon.
T0R10US CZ its like star wars all over again
Yes. It is
Awesome
This has probably been suggested, but can you make videos on the Cardassians in the future?
Definitely will at some point, but I am debating doing the Ferengi first, I really love them.
I want more next generation episodessss
Ah, Cannon and the eternal question of what is and what makes cannon cannon. What would we do with out it's ability to screw with our heads?
I don't If I had taken in the new Star Trek movies in that historylesson.
Anyone else notice with these Star Trek Empires whenever the Emperor/Empress dies, the Empire just Stagnates/Declines under an oligarchy?
Must be just a coincidence that they based so much of their culture on Rome. Yeah, great storytelling....
I find it ironic that JJ Abram would use the Romulans to kill Gene Roddenberry's universe....
Romulans are my second favorite race after Vulcans.
The funny thing is
My cats name is Romulan
.... 😼😹😹😹

Uh, this video stops at 5:57, wonder why...

mikapoful you’ll have to forgive him. He seems like one of those guys who doesn’t like the Kelvin Alternate Timeline
Romulan empire has a roman feel to it.
JJ's trek is like the Joker from suicide squat...
