Remember: Never let's facts or reality interfere when presenting an anti-gun narrative.
It's so strange to me that there are some American's that are literally campaigning against our Bill of Rights. It's even worse when virtually all of their arguements are completely wrong. The more outspoken critics are seems to correlate to how little they know about firearms.

"Well regulated", in the sense of the time, means well organized. In German we still have the root word "to regulate something". The "Grosse Aare regulation" did not ban anything, but reorganized the water balance of an entire region. But this is often a problem, people forget where their language comes from and a look at a good history book helps. Well also goes back to the Germanic wela, which can be translated as "as desired". So a militia organized as desired must have weapons.

  • @Kmpblack86

Here in the UK gun control is very strict, literally got to jump through hoops to get a licence for a shotgun or rifle, handguns are banned entirely. For the most part it works, that doesn't mean we don't have guns on the streets, they still get through customs and into the hands of criminals.

The term regulate was meant to mean "keep regular."
As in often and in common.
The interstate trade issue has also been perverted. Regulate, there again was meant to "keep regular," as in that no state could restrict, embargo, or place tariffs on another state.
All the lefty stuff gets easy when you redefine a word or two.
Like regulate today means restrict, to most people.
It's a wrong concept, not cohesive with an educated and moral population, but here we are.

In the fmf (fleet Marine force) my units had 1-2 days to snap in and 2-3 days of shooting. 3 days.... We qual for 3 days in the fleet. 2 practice days and qual day.
Secondly, the purpose of rifle qualification is to maintain proficiency. I'd say most gun owners probably hit the range more often than your average Marine so it's a moot point.
When we look at definitions of words used, we have to use the definition of the time, not the definition of words now. Regulated at the time is often defined as directed. So, A well regulated (directed, or possibly familiarized) militia (notice how militia is used, NOT military, militias being raised from civilians to supplement the army, or in the case of the US to possibly combat the countries own army) being necessary for the security of a free state; the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.
To translate this to modern English: A well trained and familiarized (with common place equipment) militia being necessary to the security of the free state; the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.
Absolutely zero mention of the government military, FOR GOOD REASON. The 2nd amendment is not for soldiers or Marines. It is for THE PEOPLE. The implication being we will have access to common military equipment, and in the event of a tyrannical government uprising we will have the means to secure the free state.
