    I'm not an American, and looking at this from 30,000feet, seems like they will use any excuse to take the guns away from the ones that are trained to use them best.
    I'd be happy to have a trained marine in my community even if he may be a little off due to combat.

    To all my fellow vets who use the VA Healthcare System, be proactive with your care. A lot of care slips through the cracks of VA void. Doctors want the best for their patients, but they are overwhelmed and inundated with patients. Lots of care fall into the category of "lost to follow up" that leads to deterioration of continuity of care. Like outside healthcare systems, polypharmacy is rampant because doctors don't know what you're taking unless you tell them - take responsibility for your care/health as much as possible.
    Now that said, we also have employees that crud on the bottom of the barrel and be better off working in fast food with no human contact, but they're still working at VHA.

    The VA tried to tell my dad (retired Master Chief, 20 year service record joined in 1968) that he lost his hearing before he joined at the ripe old age of 17 from East Tennessee. And yes as a Viet Nam veteran he has been diagnosed with PTSD which took 7 years and 2 attorneys so they did take his rights to own a firearm.
    I’m grateful for my dads wife. She’s a drug and alcohol rehabilitation counselor and she is the only reason my dad is still alive. He was an alcoholic my entire life. He finally got clean after she convinced him to go into mental treatment for 2 weeks because she was afraid he was going to self harm.

It was so traumatic. She still has to work there too! She filed and malpractice lawsuit. It's all bullshit. He had so many more years and it's just not fair because he was like a dad/popop/best friend to everybody. He took in SO MANY PEOPLE over the years and had 33yrs sober and helped so many people in sobriety. He was a hero in many ways. He was a true patriot & hero! 🇺🇸

      Your system is so onerous and unmanageable that these problems are caused by the VA, then cited as a reason to deny care. Do you people want more money to go on trips and retreats? How about some more free land to not build veteran housing on? How about some special keyboards that your clerical staff can use with their 6" long fingernails? Edit: how about some more colonoscopy instruments to not sterilize so that you can infect veterans with HIV?

    PTSD, or CPTSD is as individual as the individual is themselves. Everyone is different and the level of PTSD they have and why they have it, is as individual as they are. The check boxes are completely useless but for some reason, it is how the government and the VA operates.

  • @mattycakes1161
    @mattycakes1161 Рік тому +7

    The whole PTSD thing is a mess. Not everyone gets PTSD, people have different levels of consciousness, some see something messed up and just dismiss it, some go to pieces. Some get PTSD form war, some get it from seeing a car crash. Wanting to off yourself constantly and ducking when you hear a gunshot are two different things. The Government's one-size-fits-all solution NEVER works because we are individuals, not a collective. So when someone does actually need help, they hide it, so they don't get flagged and screwed over.

    Re the boxes that need checked for VA Disability Compensation to pay- 1) injury in service, 2) current disability, and 3) link between 1 and 2. Every vet should have the 3 post test in mind before applying or at least before going into the C&P exam. If you can't prove all 3 to their looking they won't pay a dime. And don't let the docs start trying to talk about anything that happened before you served. They often use that as a reason to deny as well.

    It's on the active side as well. Seen guys who needed to see mental health and the clinic tells them to come back in 6 to 8 weeks and they won't refer them downtown either. Earlier in my career none of the guys wanted to see mental health because once you checked in you were completely at their mercy. They never take "risks", they always play it safe, you could be completely normal and they'd still recommend you not be brought up. Then all of a sudden everyone around you starts treating you like crap because you can't do the mission.

    Jameson makes an excellent point. VA, Military, Civvieland, it's all systems. You are a number in a database and everyone is covering their butt and making sure they meet their bottom line. You, or if incapacitated someone close to you, have to know how to work the system, and who to get in touch with, to get the benefits you deserve. No veteran deserves to be treated this way, but you must also fight for yourself.
