It's even more difficult to recruit to the military when the commanders are pushing ideological policy that coddles weakness and has people walk on egg shells. It's hard to recruit when they're letting in people you can't trust to have your back because they have a default 40% chance of trying to do the enemy's job for them. It's hard to recruit when they sacrifice combat readiness in favor of feelings and act accordingly. It's hard to recruit when you have drag queens, very feminine men, trying to be social media ambassadors for the military. All of that said, there's also something most people don't understand. You're never supposed to have faith in the government. You're supposed to not trust it, you're supposed to scrutinize it. Hell the military doesn't swear allegiance to the government, their allegiance is sworn to a set of laws crafted to RESTRAIN that government. And they swear that allegiance in the same breath that they swear to defend that same set of laws from not only foreign enemies, but domestic ones as well. Technically an enemy of the constitution is an enemy of the US military and a government that seeks to undermine it, you see where i'm going with this.
To trust a government doesn't mean you can't scrutinize them. You can judge someone like your friends actions while still believing they have your best interests in mind. While the military isn't bound by allegiance to the government they still stand by them 100%, they are "in the pocket" of the same politicians US Citizens don't trust.@@killer13324

At it's fundamental core, military service was more viewed as a civic duty. The US no longer has that sense of civic duty. At the same time, thanks to social media and easy access information...people are simply more aware of what the current military really is: It's a weapon for corporate interests.
If you don't want to be a weapon then don't sign up to be infantry. Being patriotic and/or a veteran today means you’re on a government watch list as a threat… who would willingly sign up for that? Gen Z is in the process of learning this the hard way, and opting out.
My take: America is becoming like Weimar Germany. Having lost a major conflict, veterans feeling betrayed by their government and getting the short end of the stick in care, divisive politics, massive debt, a degenerate culture that promotes Vice over virtue, the “before time” largely becoming irrelevant, and people struggling to make ends meet. Gen Z having grown up and experienced this in a way the older people in their lives haven’t, it’s no wonder they’re pessimistic and not willing to fight for the special interests of an oligarchy under the pretense of “patriotism” which is largely being undermined.

Well if we believed in conspiracy theories, it would seem that this is by design. They know the current direction of the military isn’t going to attract the right kind of people. This is going to make our military weak. Weak military and low levels of patriotism + a weak economy and social division = ??
John F. Kennedy, in his famous address to the nation, asked us to look at the bigger picture. "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what can you do for your country." Ok, so the underlying question remains. What can you do for your country? Can you change anything, for the better, with military service? Can you, as a soldier, sailor, airman, or marine, help improve the United States of America by offering your service in the military? We have a major infrastructure problem. The foundations of our country (The Constitution) may be solid, but the webbing that holds us all together is unraveling. Our leaders are ineffective. Our courts of justice are mired down in their own inability to determine what is both legal and right. Our politicians are increasingly self-serving, greedy and dishonest. Our faith has stopped being a touchstone and is now a self-righteous panderer to further it's own political views. We celebrate the inane, mundane and insane on social media. We tout the belief that everyone is entitled to get something for nothing. We revel in the glory of consumerism, honest and dishonest, not to show our success, but to browbeat others into submission. We are destroying ourselves from the inside out, and our enemies just have to sit back and be patient. When we implode, and we will, our enemies can waltz in with a dustpan and broom and sweep away our efforts to be something greater than we could actually deliver.

You know what stopped me joining? Having a veteran grandfather who served in the Korean War who told me he served for no purpose, and they had no reason being over there but to fight an ideology.
South Korea wouldn't exist if not for your grandfather and those like him. Take a look at North Korea. Communism is a destructive ideology that should be ended.
No, there was a reason. It was to split Korea into North and South and create a "demonic boogey man" in the DPRK. It was a way for the US to justify such a military presence in East Asia. Hey, Japan doesn't like our military bases and all their little girls being raped by soldiers, well guess what? Kim Jong wants to test nuke bombs now. Zbigniew Brezinski more or less admits this in one of his books. It's a dog and pony show.
Even then Korea was justified considering what the Kim family did and does to their people. Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq were pointless. As someone who fulfilled their contract in the military and now struggling getting education benefits and classes certified every month, don't do it. They are creating their own recruiting shortfalls and its likely because the leadership itself is not actually patriotic and has no interest in the continuation of the USA. They are committing a purge of the military wherein patriotic, conservative, rank and file people are pushed out but ideologues and people who are easily manipulated because they have no principles are elevated to the top. Gen Z Marine Officer Explains Why Gen Z Isn’t Joining & How to Fix It: 2nd Lt. Matthew Weiss - ua-cam.com/video/09pVVwx--J4/v-deo.html
The problem with murica is that you never experienced war for survival.
Never.
The government is owned and operated by the Corporations, why join the military if you are essentially fighting for corporate interest?
You all have corrupt cops to thank for a huge part of the erosion of faith in the country.
@@riccia9674 it's not a country, it's a corporation
The only fix is making America more economically viable for regular people.
Difficult to recruit to the military when respect and faith in the government is eroded to an all time low.

As a veteran myself, it took me many, many years to realize what the US military has become since WWII. Basically, whatever Maj General Butler dealt with (in his book War is a Racket) had amplified after WWII- and the military, controlled by political puppets, has been handed to major corporations.
And who is buying up more and more of corporate interest? It's the country who's name Trump likes to say a lot (hint: they're in Asia). Everyone wonders how they got stealth fighters, simply through abusing the student VESA system by getting kids to infiltrate (been proven for years now). And as we can see even in recent news with the Navy, there are PLENTY of people in the military willing to sell secrets to that particular regime.
Yes, but who is running those corporations?

We have a major infrastructure problem. The foundations of our country (The Constitution) may be solid, but the webbing that holds us all together is unraveling. Our leaders are ineffective.
