- Uriah tries out this wonderful new pedal from Dunlop. The left channel has more of the room mic-narration; the right channel has more of the direct out from the amp.
Update:
Hey y'all- Just found this cool lil vid using this pedal on a gig- on a Ballad! Ashling Cole: At Last @ Silo's Jazz Club • Ashling Cole - At Last...
I like the pedal being up on a table like that. Effect pedals should get their own platforms with spotlight on stage. Amazing video Sr Duffy!
Nice to hear a true groove player demoing an envelope filter. His technique is as good as anybody's, but he slows it down and puts space between the notes so we can really hear what the effect can do; he's not just showing off. Best envelope filter demo I've seen and heard yet!
Sounds bloody fantastic! Great demo, love your groove and tone.
WOW !! Awesome playing & Tone !! Love ALL the videos you post, along with the Demo videos !! You definitely make choosing an effect pedal a lot easier !! i now know i definitely want the MXR M82 after seeing & hearing this Demo !! THANKS !! Peace,
Extreme thanks for the very professionally recording (I *LOVE* the split "Left Room Mic"/"Right Direct Out") and explanation of the pedal's various functions. Between yours and fellow Dunlop/MXR endorsee Bryan Beller's (Dethklok, Steve Vai, Mike Keneally) demo I decided that *this* was the Envelope Filter for my pedalboard/"B-Rig" - my main pre is an SWR Mini Mo' with the built-in effects and whose "Bassynth" effect is the high-water mark to my ears., but which this has the same overall vibe!
still have this pedal bought based on this video and going strong!
Man, what a great combo: Duffy + Lakland + TC.
Nice to see a demo by someone who can play. Groovy chops, dewd!
great playing and demo as always !
I'll go ahead and state that the Skylines are AWESOME- I even have two of 'em (a Darryl Jones and a Duck Dunn). And you're right- most people wouldn't even know the difference between those and the US made. But players who've been playing a long time or are very intimate with their bass selection can tell right away, mostly thru feel, & then tone. But the price diff. is HUGE considering the smaller diff. in quality. I'd get another! This is a US Deluxe from '99, with stock Barto's & Barto Preamp
i wish the vid was longer. his playing is awesome at the end
Love it man, your videos are always wickid! Still needa get an MXR Bass ctave since the last video on that! That head loks pretty neat too
Very Cool, I always wondered what that type of pedal was used for and how it sounded. Thanks Once Again Mr. Duffy!!!
Excellent demo... Sounds like the real thing. Ive bought envelopes in the past with lots of settings and different waves etc that i've found mostly unusable in gigging/song situations. This MXR unit is VERY usuable in a band situation, Ive heard people saying "its a one trick pony" but what it does, it performs extremely well. It also keeps the bottom end in tact, but i still run mine through a blend unit (75% wet, 25% dry) for extra low end boost/intergrity.
I think he's referring to the volume of the amp itself. You can hear the acoustic fret noise from the ambiance in the room. The grind you achieve through the amped/effected tone is quite miraculous though! ;)
@RoL4ndInHo It's Uriah's bass, which is the most important factor regarding his tone. You should be asking about his amp!
fyi, it's a lakland 55-94.
@craigdamage Yeah- I like fret noise/buzz. If you can, try listening to only the RIGHT channel- It's the direct sound output. There's still some snap, but way less than the LEFT channel room mic. Perhaps I'll do another sample with a p-Bass/flatwounds...
@udawggy I think he meant that if you can hear the microphone/camera picked up the fret noise from the bass, then the volume for the amp probably wasn't loud enough.
@udawggy It definatly adds a nice percussive element.
@udawggy thank you--THANK YOU! A thousand blessings to you my friend. I certainly wasn't insulting your playing/technique. I wish more folks would do bass demos on youtube with flatwounds. I switched to flats on all my basses a number of years ago for the reason of wanting lower noise. I admit,I do kinda miss the sound of a chorus pedal on my Fender Jazz back when I still used rounds...
