Very useful video. I encountered this problem when I tried to fit a generic walking foot to one of this series of Elnas. ELNA (the original Swiss company called Tavaro) never made walking feet apparently, a bit of an oversight considering that their machines were the Rolls Royces of the domestic sewing machine world.

Another quick tip: the end of the small elna screwdriver also fits into the bobbin to remove it.

Hey thanks for curating such a great and informative channel! Truly a joy to watch. This video was definitely helpful! I use a different Elna machine (green, green two tone, and beige/tan supermatics) and I was having questions about finding the right walking foot. My main curiosity was whether or not what generic or third party one would fit my machine. The second thing I was curious about is how do they work for different stitch lengths, or if I used a decorative double cam stitch that modulates the stitch length both forward and reverse. Is that something that these walking foot attachments handle without issue? This video helped me answer whether or not they work with zig zags!

Removing the bobbin . Another possibility is a strip of fridge magnet to lift the bobbin out of the rotary hook assembly or a long flat magnet if the fridge magnet is not strong enough. You can get all shapes and sizes of magnet on ebay.

I’ve never seen a walking foot before so I’m not sure when it should be used. Should it be used for a certain type of fabric?

Generally it would be used where two or more plies of fabric tend to slide, such as quilting with the batting in between two layers of fabric.

Yes. A walking foot is very good for knits and other stretchy fabrics. And also of course for slippery fabrics too!

Is that an Elna brand walking foot?

No. It's an after market one and is the one to fit the models listed in the video. Thanks.
