What a beautifull house and a great stove you have ! But I think Vermont Castngs is quite expensive compared with the other brands. Be happy !

Thanks for posting this video. I found that I could cut the startup time in half by cracking the ash-door open just slightly after lighting. I do this with left and right dampers all the way open and glass door must be closed. It draws air in from under the fire platter. I always close the ash door after about 5-10 minutes or whenever the wood gets a good enough glow. Works great if wood isn’t perfectly dry.

Love the experience you're sharing...on edge of my seat, being a DIYer with the need to offer my input myself I understand your desire to be part of the install. I have been looking into a wood stove over my current propane stove heater and the Dauntless and the Intrepid are the 2 that have caught my attention. Thanks for the review.

I appreciate you showing the operation of the damper door - I’ve been trying to find a video that shows how much it should open and close when you operate the handle👍🏻

Thanks for the review...This will be my third season with the Dauntless and I really do love it. Bit of a learning curve for me as it is my first catalytic stove, but I've pretty much got it dialed in now. Cooler weather is coming soon...happy burning!

good video- I've been burning my Vermont Castings 1978 Vigilant original for may years. Sadly this early stove has no ash clean out drawer and I have to let fire die down and shift coals to the side to shovel out ash. I burn about 6 cords of seasoned wood a winter burning 24/7 I grill in the stove with a long handled grill basket -great chops and steaks. And use the griddle top- It is especially good during electric outages. Good luck with this.

thank you so much I am a newbie at this and I love it though. I purchased an Encore and as in your case, the installation was a bit of a challenge. Now learning how to use it properly, apparently I was not getting the stove hot enough before I closed the damper and it caused a lot of creosote build up. The good news is that the chimney sweep recommended a product to use a couple of times a week to prevent heavy buildup .
Anxious to try it and to worth stove correctly.
Please do a follow up about operation is you can. Thanks again.

This will be my 2nd full winter with this stove. It’s a good one but is a learning curve. And the glass doesn’t like being clean even burning a hot fire. But I love the stove

We purchased the Encore about a year ago, we love it. The ash door is a bit clumsy, when we open the door ash falls out. The temp is a bit learnig curve to get a grasp on. The rear half circle-ish firr brick kept falling out because the tab at the top barely caught, so i needed to add fire brick moarter to the bottom to keep it caught at the tab on the top. Would love to see your mid season review!

In my defiant the ash bin is in a tray - if yours is like that, maybe there is ash in the tray that is coming out. Something to check 👍🏻

I’m installing a wood stove now. I purchased 2 of those stove pads. But I’m skeptical of those pads being enough to prevent a fire. There is a concrete floor in the room the stove will be in. But I still have concerns. I also purchased 4 concrete pavers for the stove to sit on. I really want the floor to be safe underneath the stove.

Anything else you've learned in the last few months? I'm embarking on my first season with one of these and I'm still figuring things out a bit.

You'd think as much as you pay for a Vermont Castings that they could actually put handles on each and every actuator. And what fool decided to omit adjustable height legs? We like our Dauntless Ok but in retrospect we would have chosen an aspen. Then there's the catalyst... which is a joke. All the expense and trouble get's you less than 1% extra burn efficiency. If 1 of your guests accidently throws something plastic in your stove... you just screwed your catalyst. This is what happens when you have scientifically illiterate bureaucrats set your standards.
