Thank You! I dread using rulers on large quilts - I will certainly incorporate quilt-as-you-go into any projects I can. LOVE watching how you manage the volume of material - seeing someone do this is so helpful.
Just found this tutorial. Fabulous. I have many tops to get quilted and I wanted to learn to do them myself. I'm 68 and feel that this old dog has been taught a new trick. Thank you.
Thank you, Thank you! Coming across your video literally lowered my "procrastination " level! For some strange reason Id been in a panic about finishing a twin size piece due to "how in the world can I quilt this thing on a basic throated machine"? YOU SAVED ME! I was truly "over thinking " the size of it...I am excited now to get it finished & shipped to my grandson...who constantly inquires about his blanket. I have subscribed & look forward to your every word. Blessings to You & Yours
Thank you so much for this. I know that I’m seeing this well after the original posting but I have found this so helpful as I try to figure out how to manage quilting a large quilt that I have pieced on my domestic machine. I appreciate your approach to the task since I have had struggles with managing the volume of fabric on smaller quilts.
Thank you soooo much! Finally someone show a large quilt! Letting go of the urge to "do it all at once". Watching you sloooowly do one square at a time!
Thank you for taking the time to show how to do this. I treated myself recently to a new domestic machine with a 12" throat and have done my first quilt on it. The extra space certainly makes a huge difference. Another important thing to remember is that you are not going to get this job done in an afternoon. I tended to do a bit, have a break then return to the quilt. It worked for me!
Wow! I am new to quilting and have done one quilt by had and three using the machine. The last one took so long to do free style quilting, I think I will try these templates as they appear so effective. I thing that it looked so easy as this was the calmness of the lady and her demonstration was good.
Thank you so much for this video! I am getting ready to quilt my first large quilt on a domestic machine. I am only going to do straight quilting, but the info on how to manage it on my table really helps me!
Thanks, I just ordered the John Flynn Frame and stand for 316...with shipping. Watching yur vid makes me think I did not make a mistake. Only done quilting for a few months. I want to do it from start to finish and not pay a long arm hundreds and have to wait forever to get it back. Thanks again ya did great esp with only a phone to do the video. What an absolute amazing tutorial! I love that you explain every step and why you are doing it! I am new to quilting and have done only one quilt so thank you for making this
I’m a new beginner of quilting, and and I bought me a new brother sewing machine, even my hubby is helping me on some of the quilting, measurements, cutting. Can’t seem to have enough room to barely work with a semi-small quilter for spreads on my dressers. What a chore. There so much to learn in quilting. This is great to seen and learn new ways of how to handle the material.
Great beginner tutorial! I just figured out one of the best ways to help the quilt from constantly sliding down in front on my lap and getting 'stuck so much. I have two tiny end tables (that are actually meant as drawer units under my sewing desk) that I pull up close beside me on either side of my chair and let the quilt rest on that. I also use that non-slide stuff that's use under vases, lamps, in other words, anything you don't want to slide off of a flat surface on top of the two little tables so the quilt doesn't slide off. These two things keep the quilt up and 'fluffy'. I hope this helps someone out there.
Thank you so much. This is really helping! I struggle mainly that due to the machine I cannot see where I need to go. It is blocking my view. Any tips for that too?
I sewed the sides down on my quilt. Can I still free motion quilt on it ? I want it have the typical quilt look to it and I want my fabric to be held down in the middle too. Did I mess up ?
is spray basting okay on the material for a long time? I tried it on little pieces and washed them when they were dried but the spray did not wash off. any advice or suggestion? thank you very much
I find square quilts more difficult than rectangular quilts. You begin in the center and work your way out and once the center is completed the edges are easier because there’s less bulk under the throat space.
I'm not sure if I could use these rulers with my Singer Patchwork Machine, the throat is only about 5". Newbie when I bought my machine 18 months ago :(
This is in no way a fair comparison. The Innovis has a VERY large throat space! they're much larger than a regular run of the mill machine with a throat space of 8 or 9 inches! But, then again, I might just be mad because I don't have this machine. Just maybe I said!

Thank you for this video, it will make quilting so much easier knowing how to set up the large quilt.

Great video. You have answered so many of my questions on handling the quilt using the rulers. Thank you so much!
I m just staring with rulers SAVED this for sure.
You teach patience here, above all. Thanks for this.

So true. Everyone shows free motion on small quilts which doesn’t help

You put into words what it took fifty years of trial and error taught me plus tips
not yet discovered. THANK YOU!!!
Thank you. Loved your clear concise tips and your beautiful modulated voice

Thank you for showing how to do a large quilt, as opposed to your smaller piece demonstrations! I’ve been waiting for this. I hope to see even more!
Thank you for this...what good timing--I have the foot, the starter kit, and a quilt throw that I just made. Time to jump in!
Thank you! Your advice is so sensible. I enjoyed your examples. Happy quilting!

Very helpful hints beautifully presented. Loved your calm voice as you were easy to understand. 😊

Thank you for sharing your talents, you are amazing!
Just what I needed to see. Thank you so much for an excellent demonstration.
Thank you so much! I have been wanting to see this forever. This really has been a major intimidation step for me.
Thank you so much for sharing your tips Leonie. 💖
Thank you for the information and demonstrations.
Thanks so much for this! I had no idea that my machine would do this! I am going to try before considering purchasing a long arm.
Thank you a very helpful video.
Stable tape is the answer to my problem. Thank you.
Love this video thanks so much!
Thanks you so much for these tips, I haven't made a quilt, but I want to learn so I keep watching video's.
This has helped so much! Thank you so much!!
Awesome!😮
Wonderful help!!!!!!inspiration!!!!!!
Oh thank you so much, this is so very helpful!
Thankyou Leonie for this video.
Thank you so much. This is really helping! I struggle mainly that due to the machine I cannot see where I need to go. It is blocking my view. Any tips for that too?
Excellent! What is the length of your stitch?
I sewed the sides down on my quilt. Can I still free motion quilt on it ? I want it have the typical quilt look to it and I want my fabric to be held down in the middle too. Did I mess up ?
Thank you. Please do more tutorial’s on westlee rulers
is spray basting okay on the material for a long time? I tried it on little pieces and washed them when they were dried but the spray did not wash off. any advice or suggestion? thank you very much
Where can I get stable tape. I have the starter set so I would love to have the tape.
Sometimes, I use a ironing board level with the sewing machine table. Thanks!
when FMQ'ting on a large quilt, where do you start. Centre or edge? and do you use safety pins or spray baste your quilt?
Start from the center and go out. I always use the curved quilting pins.
I find square quilts more difficult than rectangular quilts. You begin in the center and work your way out and once the center is completed the edges are easier because there’s less bulk under the throat space.
Thank you so informative.
Thank you so very much...so you took up the challenge :P
Thank you Leonie
Thank you so much! I will try it
What kind of thread are you using? Also, how do you secure your threads?
Looking for sewing machine with a larger throat .Do you have any suggestions .Your machine say Innovis who makes it ?
Where do you get the stable tape?
Do you have a glider underneath the quilt?
Wonderful video. I am learning. For me it will have been easier to learn if the thread and the material were not both white.
How do you put your machine on an angle?
I'm not sure if I could use these rulers with my Singer Patchwork Machine, the throat is only about 5". Newbie when I bought my machine 18 months ago :(
nana31331 yes you can. Start out with smaller pieces like wall hangings, crib quilts. As you gain confidence, move on up.
I would prefer you do this on a smaller throated machine. Using your large throat machine doesn’t look that difficult at all.
You mean template firm, move the quilt!

ChevyDude65: And the machine cost well over $4,000 with big dollar option packages.
