    Fascinating! I am a new quilter and paying someone each time to quilt is a financial challenge, this certainly feels doable.

    I just wanted to thank you sooooo much for this tutorial! I'm still new to quilting and didn't know about using quilting paper. I'm working on a project that is really large, 90x100 inches. The quilt design is bubbles, the fabric goes from light to dark colors as I move along. I had to keep drawing the circles u sing two different marking pens because of the color switches. Now, I simply draw the circles on the paper and quilt away. This has made it so much easier and faster to do! THANK YOU!!!!

    This is the best video for teaching the quilting for beginners that I have watched today. Wow, This really took the fright out of it for me, I am going to try to work with your videos to learn with, Thank you so much. God bless.

    I've done this method a few times; it works really well! One recommendation: when you are removing the paper, while watching your favorite program, be sure to have a pair of tweezers handy to get a few of those little itty bitty pieces of paper that are caught under your quilting stitches. Great vid! Many thanks! And, Merry Christmas to all. 🎄

    Very clear explanation of using the paper for quilting. I just did this for the first time on my last quilt and it worked well. I used a pair of tweezers to get the tiny bits of paper out when the rubbing didn't get it all. That worked well.

    I realize this video was made many years ago, but I wanted to say thank you thank you for such a awesome video tutorial. I am not good at free motion quilting and I think this is exactly what I needed. You have taught me so much so many little tricks in this short time. I wonder if your books are still available. I will check it out since you have helped me so much!

    I have subscribed to this UA-cam channel now, as Lynn Witzenburg is a wonderful 'explain-er'! WRT removing the quilt paper, I would think something like a clean white eraser (Staedler) would be safer to use to remove the little bits under the stitching, rather than a sharp pair of scissors which could scratch a stitch apart, or heaven forbid, mar the fabric of the quilt. Just being cautious, after all that hard work making the quilt and stitching on the quilting design! Thanks for a terrific video, I will look at the entire series now! ~Diana from Toronto, Canada

      I traced my patterns in a large edge to edge strip. What a disaster!!! After I finished quilting, removing the paper I felt like I had plucked 20 geese! All of the tiny paper pieces everywhere~ Never again!!! Although your method looks easy, in the long run, still have a big mess to clean up!

    Why not use Quilting Made Easy paper, the pattern is already printed on the paper and it has adhesive on the back edges so you don't have to use pins. There are free motion patterns and border patterns where you just follow the line. I have been using their patterns for years and love them.

    Hello, today is Feb 21, 2018 ... could you just take the master copy of the stencil and just make copies on your computer (word documents)? I think that would be faster but I haven't even done 1 of my quilt tops yet on my domestic sewing machine. I have taking them to a quilter, but I would like to do the smaller quilts myself and save some money. Thank you and did enjoy this video.

    Why not try using ? "Wash-Away Applique" in stead of paper? It costs more than paper, but you can toss it in the wash or just soak it, and it totally dissolves. No mindless picking at leftover paper means more time to have fun quilting!

    do you use a regular sewing machine or a different one?
    if you use a different one then can you please tell me which one
    thank you!

    • @Landauerpub
      @Landauerpub  8 років тому +2

      A regular sewing machine should be all you need - but you will want to use a special foot called a "free motion" foot, sometimes called an "open toe darning foot" or just "darning foot". Your machine may have come with this foot already, and if not you'll be able to order it based on which machine model you have, you'll want to check the machine's manual for more information.

    • @hilarystencil7491
      @hilarystencil7491 7 років тому

      I take the foot completely off the machine, and drop the feed dogs. As long as you're careful, it works great! For machines that are not able to drop the feed dogs, tape a business card over the feed dogs, and you'll be good to go!

    My machine will not sew without thread on top and there isn't any way to shut off that function, however, if I put a credit card where the thread would be on the side of my machine, it tricks the machine into working!

  • @knackability7098
    @knackability7098 10 років тому

    Could you explain a little more about the quilting paper you used? Can I use tracing paper? I have some lightweight (18lb) Canson sketching paper, will that work okay? Does this technique tend to dull your sewing needle quickly? I love this idea for transferring quilt designs. I think this will really expand my repertoire of designs. Thank you!!

    • @Landauerpub
      @Landauerpub  10 років тому

      Hi there - video 4 in this series ("Marking and Stencils for Machine Quilting") goes into more detail about the paper. Check the link in the video description for the full playlist. Lynn does say that the quilting paper is basically architectural tracing paper, so if you have something similar it should work just fine. Using one paper template shouldn't dull your needle, but if you're putting together several layers of paper and you're worried about your needle becoming dull more quickly you can always have a separate needle just for sewing paper and change out for a needle just for fabric when you're ready to start sewing.

      LandauerPublishing I use a sharpie extra fine point black as shown but it still transferred the ink lightly onto my thread and onto the quilt. Luckily it was very light on the quilt, so I ripped out the stitching and replaced it with clean thread, treated the quilt, washed it and most of it is not noticeable to anyone but me, any suggestions

      Ellen Hofer Hi Ellen - you still need bobbin thread in your machine when you free motion quilt.
